^Yup, can confirm. I'm currently at 13k best score and I STILL did not get muh Consul title, so I'm dropping in for a playthrough or two from time to time.
Did an Evil playthrough recently, but even with this I did not manage to hit the money requirement for the Consul ending (money is one of the factors, right?)

After you realize how linear it is, it basically becomes a Char training sim. Also, even while linear, there is enough events and combinations thereof, that I'm often surprised that I forgot/omitted some small side-branch or did not use an "optimal" (score speaking) path. Which fuels a subsequent playthrough.
It is still very enjoyable though, with linearity becoming a non-issue, which is a real achievement of the developer.

One tip, to skip a bit prolonged "mid-game" (when looking at multiple playthroughs):
Fill your Hall of Fame with scores. Any scores. Dead, retired, alive, whatever. Points that you can allocate to new Chars depend on the state of Hall of Fame - with all slots being included in the calculation, even if empty.
When I realized this (explained somewhere in the game), power-curve of my multi-playthrough adventure with the game became a lot more pleasant.

no?

you need 1/3 civic crown, along with int/cha 85+

my post back from when I did it
finally did it, became consul with 2 civic crowns and maxed all the bars(including virtue).
EDIT: actually thought Im going to get 1st crown too. Passed insane AWA check only to discover there is quickness check that I failed with 60 lol

Though I'll get grass crown since I've broken through phalanx 3 times. Problem was that middle one gave me bad snowballing rng and I couldnt kill all enemies inside. I assume that it was the reason I didnt get int check ive red about. Otherwise failing with 89 int is annoying. Still I hope im finally done.
Too bad, with grass crown id probably break 10k points
Cant remember what was starting int/cha, probably about 82 so I wouldnt sweat about reaching 85 eventually

Shiiiiit. So what's the deal with the "You were not as rich as your peers..." segment in the ending slides? (I'm paraphrasing heavily)
I got it (i think!) even for playthroughs that had significant amounts of $. Always assumed that it's related.
Damn! Thanks.

EDIT: It's probably there just to highlight the differences between a self-made Roman senator from those that were bred for the role, now that I think of it. Oh well :)

Yep even if you loot, profiteer and plunder like damn Atilla the Hun you're still a bum compared to the old money.

This GameDev might make Caesar smile again! He's working on his next game, hopefully historical RPG, this time with better graphics then Atari ET from 1982.

As lukaszek predicted I came back and had my best run yet - I didn't even won but killed a bunch of guys in duels! Got a few new achievements over the runs. Sometimes it feels really grindy though.

Had an awesome run! Almost 6000 points (the highest I had prior were 2000+) - had one duel too much, so I didn't won the game but was great fun!

Earned 6 new achievements in that run (Mural Crown + Second one, Golden Armilla + Full Podium, Hoarder, and Master Spy)

I finally got the civic crown in act I! Never knew how to get it until I focused more on Awareness, a skill which I completely neglected. After creating a character which was average in most, very good in Charisma, Awareness and Quickness I rescued the poor legionary. Had an awesome run with an extremely high javelin skill (I killed the barrel-chested officer with a Bull's Eye!)

Started using feints with him, I really neglected this part of combat which is like completely integral for offensive but especially for defensive strategies.

Also a got the civic crown in act III a few runs earlier. Still 9 of the 40 achievements left and I have over 70 hours into it. Highest score right now is 6931!

Anybody who liked this should check Heads Will Roll, for a similar experience but in medieval warfare - completely ignoring the dating sim elements is strongly advised though.

Just no, and I can stand slutty nun outfits. It looks like a porn game without porn. Sell it to me, brother.

It's made in fucking Ren'Py, which is specifically aimed at creating visual novels. Meaning the devs (who probably cannot actually code, else they'd reach for pretty much anything else to make their game in) hacked the shit out it to make it do what they want, which, predicably, meant its technical state was beyond terrible when I first tried it. Did it get better? And by better, I don't just mean that it no longer throws errors at you every five minutes, but also that the controls are responsive and quests no longer bug out on you.

I dont really know what bugs are you referring to, good sir. Runs smoothly on my laptop, no crashes, no bugs. Battles are immensely satisfying, visual novel quests / skill checks make sense and I like the overall aesthetics too. The writing in general (esp. dialogues) is admittedly below par and the less is said about dating sim elements, the better, but overall it was a very enjoyable experience.

Had a couple more runs and my best and second best run one after another.

In my second best run I finally got the achievement Mars' Favorite and Primus Centurio!

After almost killing Agema Chiliarch, I finally beat him.

Now I have 33 of the 40 achievements!

I sure hope this game doesn't simulate any antisemitic acts. Never forget about Masada or those evil Nazis Hadrian and Titus.

Had an absolute beast of a warrior. 99 points in the sword skill! Killed the Agema Chillarch without a problem. 8703 points in the end which is my best run to this date. Hoped for the grass crown but failed the int check (didn't thought about it while I was distributing my points). Thankfully I normally don't lose my temper when playing.

I also got the runner achievement in the run prior or maybe the run before that. Still 4 to go!

I don't know why but this game is certainly addicting and not only in the positive sense. I have almost 120 hours in it and I doubt I will stop until I have all the achievements. Most of the time I watch YouTube videos while playing but still. Eh.

:despair:

As I secretly hoped, I got three of the four achievements in one run! 18 cups, the grass crown and over 10000 points!

I just started abandoning runs when I didn't got the awareness check (always had around 80) for the first civic crown since I needed the kills for the 18 cups (I didn't kill one guy there, if I had it would be 19 cups)

There's only one achievement left - finishing the game without spending points but I don't think this will be very hard tbh

Questions about the new game

I have updated the FAQ section about the new game in the works. The previous version implied too much uncertainty about the project’s viability, and given the present situation, it no longer made sense.

https://www.legionaryslife.com/faq/
Will you make more games?

Yes, I have been working on a new game full-time for about 4 years. At this point, nothing short of an unforseen disaster could prevent its release.
I should be able to officially announce it soon enough. This wouldn’t have been possible without the support you gave me through A Legionary’s Life, so thank you everyone!

What’s the new game about?

It’s a surprise. Any details will be revealed with the official announcement.
