Are you using AdBlock?

How would you feel if I disabled it?

I don't mind the ads. In fact, I've found out a lot of cool games using those. For example, Ultimate Naruto, Blade Hunter and online casino.

So disable away, I want to share the good among the codexers.

I always adblock all ads across every site and don't feel the least bit of guilt about it. It is a criminal act for third parties to track you all across the Internet ans build a giant database about you that will be sold to anyone and everyone without your knowledge or consent. This is a business model that deserves to die of an extremely painful death.

I use a HOSTS file, not an adblock extension.

Can you write a script that automatically bans anyone who uses adblock or other means to disable ads?

Will your solution Jew over people who have Adblock installed, but also paid potato for adfree codex? If you're installing securom on the codex, I guarantee I'll never purchase potato from your prestigious magazine again.

Curiously enough, I had to post this from my phone, since the thread stubbornly refused to let me post with the adblock-using browser.

I never use addblock but fuck some ads can be obnoxious, like the banner literally sliding in the thread sometimes, preventing you from reading the posts, because it stands in the middle of the page.
Adds will also expand purposely on a big chunk of the screen. Are those kind of adds necessary? Can we just have 2 noiseless, fixed pictures in some corner?

Also FFS disable the adds that make noise! There is nothing worse than being in class, at work or in the library and suddenly having one of those adds popping up and starting making noise, like those videos that appear in the corner.

By far the majority of the ads are noiseless and the ratio between animated and non-animated is probably about 50:50. The problem is, the less an ad moves, the less noticeable it is and the fewer clicks it gets. The majority of advertising is pay-per-click, so if all the displayed ads would blend into the background nobody would click them and that wouldn't help us much.

And here I was hoping that just browsing with ads enabled was enough to support the codex :( . But I must ask, just how many codexian are naive enough to click on one of these?

It's not a matter of naivety, but of helping the codex a little if you're 2 cheap to outright donate. I sometimes click on them when I remember that they need to be clicked.

Just clicked on two, the old man who lost weight is called Paul Burge. Hello, Paul.

It's better than nothing, because a small percentage of ads does pay per view. As for how many click, generally very few gamers click even any relevant ads. Silly ads like those probably get just as many if not more clicks because a few people will click them just out of curiosity. Get rich quick schemes and anything related to dieting never fails to generate money for whoever's selling those dreams to the naive.

That flat stomach one is extremely borderline with the animation though and the work from home one is just too annoying, so I'm gonna take it out. There's a sticky in this forum telling you how to report problematic ads like those.

Why no google ads?
Wouldn't they bring relevant ads? Instead of the weird crap that shows up and nobody will ever click on them.

In alternative to google ads, you guys could make a xenforo script to given a game name, automatically make a link to GOG with a referral? The same for books and movies with links to amazon.

That will be $5,000 for this business consultancy session.
I'll PM you my paypal.

BTW, I always use the GOG banner when checking "what's new" and buying my games from them.
(although given their regional pricing crap... there is a chance I'll start using Steam)

Graphical Google ads aren't any more targeted than the rest and we do have them up in rotation. The text ones nobody clicked on.

Viglink should already be doing some of that, though it's anybody's guess how many links it actually catches because it's generating very little money.

I disabled AdBlock for this page in order to post a fuck you reply here. Instantly a Fish Screensaver popup comes up, obnoxious. But wait, what else... "Rise of Mythos, non-stop PVP action"... with some animu chicks... Interesting, is it free, might have to give it a try
