It's a remake of a remake of a remake.

First Larry game (made in 1987) was a graphical version of Softporn Adventure, a text adventure made in 1981.
Then they made a VGA remake in 1991.

And now this.

Wouldn't mind Larry comes alive again as an adventure even if it's starting all over again. There is enough time inbetween this and the first one.

I'm not sure if the 100% cartoony look was the right way to go. Larry chicks need to look at least slightly photorealistic to be fappable

Well the pitch video was kinda funny IMO, especially when he opened the door to the Sierra games, and the only thing you saw is a nuclear wasteland. :D But I won't donate. I would, if he made a new Leisure Suit Larry game, but it is just a remake. Why bother. And 500.000 dollars? For a remake? FFS Tim only needed 300K for a new game.

The game was already announced before? Al Lowe isn't the initiator of it, too. At least he's contributing and the companiy seems to have some humour from the descriptions. But 100$ for the boxed copy? Dunno, not getting really excited and because it was already planned before I'm not gonna contribute here.

Well, to be fair, Al Lowe had nothing to do with those games and he's publicly stated how much he dislikes them for ruining the franchise he created. See http://www.allowe.com/Larry/BOB.htm

But anyway, I love kickstarter for opening up opportunities for games or projects we wouldn't see otherwise. We would never have a good Wasteland 2 without it, for example. But this trend of developers jumping into the kickstarter scene for games they're already developing, just so they don't have to pay for it themselves, is disgusting. This isn't the only one, either.

The game was already announced. And WTF do they need half a million dollars for? The original LSL is a game that is very small in scope. And Double Fine wanted only $300,000 to create a brand new game, not just a remake.

It's this kind of thing that's going to ruin kickstarter. Even if only because people have a limited amount of money that they're going to blow on these campaigns.

Besides, when I think of adventure games, there are others I would much rather have remakes of than LSL.

Kickstart the upcoming Tex Murphy sequel with FMV well before something like this. That's what I'm going to make a big contribution to.

Hasn't Chris Jones gotten a bit too old for the role? Or will he pull the Die Hard 4.0/Max Payne 3 "badass nearing retirement" schtick?

Probably for "fully voiced characters".

In any case, fuck them. I hope this fails. We need fewer terrible kickstarter "remake" projects and more good ones.

Fully localize all the voice overs in to as many languages as possible. We will start with FIGS (French, Italian, German, Spanish) and then branch out from there.

We will shoot Leisure Suit Larry on to additional platforms: XBLA, PSN, Android, iPads, iPhones, Windows Phones, Kindle, and of course, Mac!

The game will come to life with a live orchestra performing all your favorite Leisure Suit Larry tunes.

Ken Sent Me Edition:

This is a one-time, one-person offer. We talked about this a lot, because it’s one of the most defining moments of the game, and we weren’t sure we wanted to give it away. One of the secrets to the Leisure Suit Larry game is discovering the password: “Ken Sent Me.” Oops, spoiler alert! Anyway, this was homage to Sierra founder Ken Williams. Now that Ken’s not looking, we’ll replace Ken with your name! (This would be much easier all around if your name is already Ken.) For $50,000 your name will become indispensable to completing the game. It simply doesn’t get any more important than that. We’ll also give you all the premiums from the Signed Edition reward tier and below!

This. A new LSL game made by Al Lowe? Yes of course!
A remake of a game that already has a perfectly servicable VGA remake? Why? What's the fucking point? It's not even a remake of LSL 2 or 3, which could use one, but of LSL 1 which already has a remake.

No point in this whatsoever.

Not to mention the first remake looks arguably better than what this new one looks like, if you ask me anyway. Something about super smooth "HD" 2d turns me off. The style of the original is superior in my opinion.

Also, the voice acting sample they show for Larry in the pitch video sounds annoying and awful.

Yeah. I love Larry like any old adventure gamer, but I won't pay for a remake...

Funny thing is I remember the blurb in the Compilation pack by Al Lowe himself mentioning the fact that the original VGA remake was a bad idea and tanked. Now he wants to remake the first game yet again? And with that shitty cartoony style of the later games(hated that)..Fuck that.

Chris Jones will get my monies because he was always the underdog, just like his alter ego; overlooked even here(note my lamentations of no Tex Murphy in the Codex top ten adventures) when the games were every bit as good as a series and most even individually as any others. So what if he's older? Tex needs one last big case! Maybe they can also eventually remake the other games with higher res video footage if they still have it somewhere or at least improve the movement and graphics of the 3D areas for the modern age. Mouse look and WASD would be a god send.

EDIT: It seems that the developer is planning on remaking all the Larry games in HD so it sort of makes sense to start from the first one. Still shitty though.
