Aliens: Dark Descent - Gameplay Overview Trailer
We're so excited to offer you a deeper dive into Aliens: Dark Descent with a new Gameplay Overview Trailer!

This 5-min video’s in-depth footage and commentary showcases the narrative, protagonists, and gameplay mechanics of Aliens: Dark Descent, our upcoming game set in the iconic Alien universe.

You are the commander, your squad is your weapon
Aliens: Dark Descent features a fully-fledged tactical campaign filled with tense moments, deep strategy, and terrifying revelations. As you explore further, you’ll progress in a complex story and attempt to solve the mysteries of Planet Lethe. Players will manage their squad as a single unit, thanks to innovative and intuitive controls on both keyboard & mouse and controller. Marines react intelligently to orders thanks to a unique Squad Behavior System that dispatches them automatically on the field. When the Xenomorph threat gets overwhelming, they can slow down time at any moment to focus on tactical decisions in the heat of the moment.

Marines are well equipped to alter their environment and deal with hostiles. The flamethrowers can be used to engulf corridors and condemn enemy paths. Suppressive fire is effective at slowing down your enemies and sentry guns are best used to sustain tough encounters while making sure not to run out of resources.

Every run is unique as the Xenomorphs adapt to player behavior and action. Each choice remains unaltered as players explore extensive, open and persistent levels. Managing the squad’s health and stress levels is equally as important as clearing objectives. And remember, when a Marine dies, they are permanently gone for good.

After each mission, players return to their ship, the Otago: a hub to heal and recruit Marines, to research and develop new tech that improves gear, and to retreat during missions. With 5 Marines classes available, assign a role to each of your Marines and create a stronger squad to explore further down and battle against an onslaught of iconic Xenomorph creatures.

Gear up and discover the source of a strange and dire threat in Aliens: Dark Descent[www.focus-entmt.com] on June 20. You can already pre-order the game now.

Looks neat but all those human enemies smells like a “humanity was the real monster all along” story. Can’t a man just turn aliens into goo without any introspection?

Nice presentation actually. The game looks promising. I just hope it comes complete and not with 53 season passes planned.
I don't think tactical squad game with real time combat goes well together. I hope they eventually add turn based mode.
You get the pause thingy. Seems to slow down the game. I wish it was a complete stop, though.

I think it will depend on the quality of squad AI.

Turn-based will be better since it gives the player complete control.

Real-time would require significantly more advanced AI for gameplay to not be frustrating.

Specifically, I hope you can mark points for the squad to fall back to once they get overwhelmed.

Yes, TB in stuff in these types of games would probably be better for complete control, and such.

But I loved to play X-com Apocalypse in real-time, and this game reminds me of that one. I love setting up ambush point and seeing everyone unleash everything at once in real time once the alien popped his head out. So satisfying, and panic-inducing when you failed to kill the aliens fast enough.

I hope the AI is good too. Fallback points would be great.

it has super slow mode, which is fine for me if it works like other super slow mode games I have played where they have given you ability to slow it down up to 90%, which is basically turned based. I have no issue w/ this type of combat so long as it is implemented well.

It'll take a lot for me to care about it when Alien Swarm: Reactive Drop already exists and is free.
I played that a few years ago, but it has zero strategic layer if I remember, its just an action game, twin stick shooter looter game or something... unless it has changed since I last played it, which very well could be the case.

Video game pricing makes no sense to me these days. Why is this game only $40 at launch? Aliens isn't a small ip. I'm not bitching that it isn't $70. I just don't understand what separates a $40 game from a $70 game. What justifies the extra $30 for something like say Zelda or Diablo 4?

It can't be a brand recognition thing because I'm fairly certain Aliens is bigger than Zelda and Diablo in the grand scheme of things.
what people will pay. You may not have a good idea how popular Diablo is (though I find that hard to believe)-- I have not actually played Diablo since Diablo II really, except an hour or so of some free Diablo III recently which sucked..but go to reddit and look at the volume of posting about the unreleased Diablo IV game and the constant praise the game is getting. They could charge $150 for Diablo iV and these people would pay it...(in fact there is an ongoing 'meme' on reddit that goes something like 'just cancelled my pre-order after recent free weekend preview.......' then you click the thread and it says 'and upgraded to the Deluxe Gold Edition. Lets Goooooooooooooooooo!!' or similar. So they may all literally be circle-jerking to each other about paying $150 or something for the game, in which case my above estimation of how much they would above is not actually an exaggeration.

OTOH these same people would and likely will whine endlessly about the $40 dollar price tag of this Alien game. Corporations have really done a number on the last couple generations. Turned them into rabid consoomers. Many seem to have no personality or identity outside of what brands they consume, praise or bash. And Diablo iis a brand they seemingly really want to love for the most part. Could be a lot of bots though too, who knows nowadays.

Thanks. I prefer real-time with pausing, even for strategy games, but I didn't realize the greater AI requirements. Do those refer to it making changes during gameplay?

About the permadeath feature, does this mean that when you reload a game, any Marine who just died won't come back?

Looking at media now, whether it is film, tv or video games, fills me with sadness. And instead of seizing on tech for the opportunity it is, for art, for new ways of innovating on old ideas, the younger generation seems enraptured by streamers and tiktok.

Poor attitude. There is still good shit. You just gotta put in the extra work to discover it. Think of it like panning for gold.

The codexian mindset creates additional burden because if you go in expecting shit you will almost always get shit. An open mind goes a long way, I'm learning.

Aliens: Dark Descent's gripping Story Trailer is here
Prepare for a terrifying original Alien tale
In Aliens: Dark Descent, players take on real-time combat against iconic Xenomorphs and brand new threats. Using a range of tactical abilities, they recruit, level up and command a squad of Colonial Marines as one unit with intuitive controls on keyboard & mouse as well as on controller. Players will need to use their wits to navigate expansive, persistent and reactive levels where death is permanent.
This thrilling gameplay takes place as heart-pounding events unfold the horrors and wonders of an authentic Alien narrative through a cinematic campaign full of sinister secrets.

The nightmare begins when the Otago spacecraft crash lands on Moon Lethe. The crew of Colonial Marines investigates the Xenomorph outbreak that activated the Cerberus Protocol—the planetary lockdown that is keeping them stranded. The player is their squad commander, leading them through a nerve-wracking experience against iconic Xenomorph creatures—from Facehuggers to Praetorians, Alien Queens and many more—as well as rogue human commandos and a brand-new threat. A cast of memorable characters set the plot in motion, notably Maeko Hayes, Deputy Administrator at Lethe’s Pioneer Station; Jonas Harper, Sergeant for the US Colonial Marines; and Barbara Pryce, Colony Director for the Weyland-Yutani.

Looks like a 40K servitor or even a genesteler cultist tbh fam. We will see, but in any case I am glad that there are going to be human/humanoid enemies (the trailer shows both melee and ranged ones) as well - actual firefights were always a welcome break from bug hunting in the AvP/Colonial Marines games.

Morgoth is the last person who should be talking about death of the art since he's a coprolagnistic decline enabler posting about some gay ass visual novels and pathetic rpgmaker "horror" shit.
