1. The officially sanctioned vote session seems to be headed for another unmitigated disaster.
http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/inde...ame-of-the-year-2015-voting-has-begun.105090/

2. felipepepe is whining about no help while ignoring most of the input. Talking about fucking autism.
Also, last year I also got this "there are better ways" shit, but no one ever rose up to take the lead and do this with a better system...

3. So, I decided to do something for the codex and start a voting session about which at the end we can actually say that it represents the codex's opinion - basically the only way to vote is to post your game ranking for 2015 in this thread. No more anonymous shitting.

4. For extra mindfuck, the ranking will be from 1 to 10:

10: PERFECT (ONLY 1 or 2 games are allowed to have this score, so think well before voting!!!)
9: GREAT
8: GOOD
7: HAS POTENTIAL
6: MEDIOCRE
5: GOOD FOR WHATEVER IT IS [EMOTIONALLY NEUTRAL]
4: SLIGHTLY BAD
3: REALLY BAD
2: UNPLAYABLE MESS
1: AN INSULT TO THE HUMAN RACE

Note 1: This is important: Please try to post a clear ranking of your favorite games! Thank you.
Note 2: Please vote only on games you have played.
Note 3: Only votes from accounts created before today (12/2/2016) will be counted.
Note 4: I reserve the right to ignore votes that are clearly retarded: ALL GAMES HAVE THE SAME RANKING (PERFECT, MEDIOCRE OR BAD).

5. As an example, your vote should look like this:

GAME1: 5
GAME2: 8
GAME3: 1

6. Acronyms can be used as long as they are identifiable. Example:

AoD - Age of Decandece
W2DC - Wasteland 2: Director's Cut
Underrail - UR
Undertale - UT
Witcher 3 - W3
Fallout 4- F4
PoE - Pillars of Eternity
and so on.

7. Voting is active from this moment on until 20th of February 2016. At that point I will gather all the information from this thread, I will apply some magic and I will post the results for everybody to review.

8. Starting this thread was an impulse decision therefore I don't have a clearly defined ranking criteria however I'm pretty sure I will use the bayesian average in the end.

PS: Most of the stuff is self-explanatory. I will not respond to flame and shit. You can vote or GTFO.

I salute you taking initiative but the issue is categories. I'm not voting for a game like AoD and Underrail and WL2 when people are voting for whatever the fuck Undertail is, Jrpgs, console games, monkey shit, and strategy games, and blatant non-rpgs.

My advice is have this break down of catagories -

CRPG
Console non-jrpg semi-rpg (any "rpg" developed primarily with console in mind as demonstrated by the UI (instead of a real GUI), such as Witcher 3, Fallout 3, and that fake D&D game, Metal Gear, Zelda, Rainbow Six, visual novels, child porn, Dragon Fin Soup, whatever you fucking idiots now consider to be rpgs)
Jrpg (any system)
Strategy game with rpg elements (any system, for games like Legends of Eisenwalds, since rpg games don't rape you and take all your people and shit all the time for no reason and the bullets don't tell you this so you buy it thinking its an rpg but rpgs don't rape you, also whatever else came out like HoMM, which are not even close to rpgs but this site allows posts about them in the rpg forum and move my rpg posts to other forums. And fuck you whoever does that by the way).

Maybe categories? Arpg, tower defense game with rpg elements, card game with rpg elements, survival game with rpg elements, and action game with rpg elements (any system?)

In a perfect world no votes would be allowed for weird shit like tower defense games and card game and all the non-rpg shit you monkeys like, but I'm sure the fans of these weird things will have a hissy fit or just vote for them and have their votes counted anyways.

I say us normals band together and go on strike until this site has sensible catagories for voting where people with taste and refinement don't have to vote with the monkey savage console fans or weird shit child molester fans. We can affect change like the UofM students and we can get people fired and shit. GO COLLEGE KIDS AND THEIR VAST KNOWLEDGE AND NON-CONTRADICTORY STANCES!!!!!!

Wasn't Roshan's poll enough anyway?

Voidspire Tactics: 9
Underrail: 8
Telepath Tactics: 8
PoE: 7

D:OS EE: 2
Wasteland 2 DC: 2

The last two, because for me they are LITERALLY unplayable: I can't run them on my 32bit OS. I can install 64bit, but it requires more RAM to work well.

Codex 2013 Codex 2014 PC RPG Website of the Year, 2015 Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire MCA Serpent in the Staglands Dead State Divinity: Original Sin Project: Eternity Torment: Tides of Numenera Wasteland 2 Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 BattleTech Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire
Why not. (Already voted in felipe's poll too.)

I'll break this down into new releases and re-releases/ports, just for my own convenience.

Underrail: 9 (I'd give this one a 10 but it's not really perfect so 9 will have to do)
Age of Decadence: 9
Telepath Tactics: 9
Pillars of Eternity: 8
Serpent in the Staglands: 8
Tales of Zestiria: 7
Shadowrun HK: 5
Witcher 3: 4 (yes, I actually tried playing it but got bored)

Final Fantasy XIII: Lightning Returns: 9
Trails in the Sky SC: 9
Way of the Samurai 4: 8
Ys VI: 7
Final Fantasy Type-0 HD (PC release): 7
Toukiden Kiwami: 7

Haven't played D:OS EE, Invisible Inc, Voidspire Tactics, F4, Scholar of the First Sin or Undertale yet.

Is this going to be any better? With an expanded numerical range we will have even more inconsistencies across individuals, too. Anyway.

AOD - 10
Underrail - 9

Fuck you I am not voting EEs when they ran for 2014 already

Well, I'm sorry to say this but this is impossible with the current voting system because this system is intended to measure the overall best games/RPGs of 2015.

If you want to vote by genre/categories then you have to split the games on categories and vote based on that (how well the game implements a specific sub-genre mechanics). In the end you will get the best game for a specific genre/categories but you will not be able to have a top 10 best RPGs.

I'm sorry but the ball is already rolling and I will not change the rules for this.

What I can do is this: after the voting is done, I can group games by categories/genres and provide a ranking for each subgenre. That's the best I can do.

Normally it should be however because the voting results are viewable during voting means that people will vote just to fuck another game ranking (like I actually did :))

Edit: Took another look. There is no clear ranking between your choices. Honestly I don't think that survey can say anything about the overall best game. It's just a circle jerk between AoD and Underrail fans.

Sure why not. (Remakes/Re-editions needs their own section like felipepepe's poll, the standards by which they should be judged is different from normal releases imho)

Undertale: 10 (Not necessarily without any flaws but I wouldn't change a single thing about it)
Invisible Inc.: 10 (Best stealth squad game ever made, also generally one of the best tactical squad games ever made).
Age of Decadence: 9
Chaos Reborn: 9
Way of the Samurai 4: 8
Hard West: 8
Crypt of the Necrodancer: 8
Telepath Tactics: 7
Shadowrun Hong Kong: 7
Witcher 3: 6
Dex: 6
Satellite Reign:6
Underrail: 5
Hand of Fate: 5
Pillars of Eternity: 4
Fallout 4: 4
Blackguards 2: 3
Heroes of Might and Magic VII: 3

Voidspire Tactics - 10. Open world with ton of secrets and optional areas, environmental interactions, interesting encounters, alternative solutions, deep character system and original setting - what else do you need?
Underrail - 8. Great systems but way too slow, and the lack of long-term goals at the beginning makes it hard to get invested in.
Age of Decadence - 7. AoD embraces the Codex's dychotomy of cobatfags and storyfags and tries to appeal to both. Being neither, I found it a letdown. Dialog checks aren't gameplay. Bonus points for setting and branching narrative though.
Shadowrun: Hong Kong - 6. Too much text, and the level design is a step down from Dragonfall. Also, realtime Matrix sucks.
Invisible Inc - 6. Nice innovative mechanics and great visual style, but procedural levels get too repetitive too fast.
Renowned Explorers - 5. Same problem, but less innovative and with less appealing visuals.
Ruzar: The Life Stone - 5. A solid, if unremarkable, RT crawler. Bonus points for non-linear dungeon design.
Serpent in the Staglands - 4. Too big for its own good. Lore and some puzzles are nice, but uninspired combat, a mess of a chracter system, tons of trash mobs and NPCs that only have a couple of lines bog it down.
Antharion - 3. Open-world game with terrible writing, trite lore and uninspired level design? No, thanks. Only gets bonus points for tight character system.
The Quest - 3. Same here: uninteresting lore and uninspired level design. Many quests are non-linear, so bonus points for that. Combat, on the other hand, is just tedious.
Undertale - 1. Too. Much. Syrup.

Edit: added PoE, which I totally forgot. Then though that forgetting it is a sort of rating in itself, so edited it back out.

Project: Eternity Wasteland 2 Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath
I haven't played too many games, but here is mine:
Pillars of Eternity: 8 (will be probably a 9 after the expansions, but for now it's 8)
AoD: 8
Witcher 3: 7 (damn open world, it ruins everything)
Shadowrun HK: 7

...and that's it? I'v literally only played 4 RPGs in this year? What the fuck have I been doing with my time?

Underrail: 9 (could be a 10 with some more polish and editing)
Invisible Inc: 9 (near-perfect tactical game, not a fan of the unlock system though)
Telepath Tactics: 9 (could be a 10 if it wasn't for the bugs)
Divinity OS EE: 8
Templar Battleforce: 7 (surprisingly good for a Space Hulk / Deathwatch clone, shame about metagame-driven difficulty)
SRHK: 7
Pillars of Eternity: 6
W2 DC: 6

Still need to play AoD and Voidspire Tactics. I'm somewhat tempted to replay PoE with the expansion and patches to see if it'd increase the score, but... naww.
