The real irony is that it started with physical objects via planned obsolescence. They thought they had the genius idea of going digital so they could rent you the product, discovered people will just make infinite copies, and have now gotten to the point that stuff has so many strings attached it's no longer functional even on day one.

Planescape Torment would probably be unplayable because few under the age of 25 can read. That's why Baldurs Gate 3 has voice acting.
