You should update your alts.txt as it has long been established that Non-Edgy is Lambchop.

WTF happened to you? You were pretty lucid for some time but now sound like an asylum inmate. Vaxxed, I presume?

And no, most people here are relatively normal - both compared to you and to what passes as "normal" in the hypnotoad box "reality".

Yes yes pumpkin, I am vaxxed.

Since then I sometimes spend a half day crying over a dead fly. It breaks my heart.

Whatever there was of my lucidity has been erased by the nanorobots eating through my synapses

I thought the point was fairly obvious but let me explain it to you.

    * Makes a post about those sinister people he dislikes
    * Wrings hands and gnashes teeth about bad citizens who "fly by" to troll the forum
    * Implies that he himself is a good upstanding citizen
    * Hides behind an alt and/or has been banned for being unable to respect the 2 rules the Codex does have

You know what Codex without free speech is like?

    RPGWatch.

I am serious. Because of the freedom to express opinions, every ideas will be attacked and defended vigorously, thus more intelligently.

Wait, Non-Edgy Gamer is my bro Lamby? Yay!

Maybe we should make RPGCodex redirect to RPGWatch for Australian IPs?

We should rebrand as the Really Polite Gamer's Codex. We won't say bad words anymore, and we'll all very nicely tell each other that our favourite games suck and we're retarded.

How about moving the entirety of the forums to separate domain in non-pozzed country, owned by a truster non-pozzed denizen, while leaving the site alone. The codex as a site gets to stay, the forum, rather than being a part of it, becomes a separate "affiliated" entity.

It needn't be only accesssible via darknet. You can run a proxy on I2P from a different connection. It then can't be traced to the original hosting provider.

DarkUnderlord are you going to transfer ownership to a person from the US? If not, I'd like to formulate a plan for hosting a reverse-proxy+darknet version of the Codex. For the sake of reputation, I will reveal my personal identity as an IT professional upon your request. Just to brag:

I'd like to know the peak bandwidth usage for the Codex as that influences the darknet choice.

I don't think our "authorities" have any capability regarding the Internet. The Codex would be safe in Potato for years, despite containing illegal content.

Then only archive threads that contain noteworthy conversations, were significant to the history of the site or the history of game development, or were otherwise noteworthy in general. This site's been around for a long time, and big names in the industry have used it. If that's not worth preserving, I don't know what is. Alternatively, archive the site in its entirety (or cherry-pick threads, whatever) but replace everyone's screen names with a placeholder like "anonymous." It wouldn't be a perfect solution and people in the know could still identify posts based on writing style and posting habits, but you'd at least have the content and a thin layer of obscurity.

Here's what I've come up with after thinking over this the past few days.

    1) RPG Codex as a more heavily-moderated RPG site is just RPGWatch. If you want to talk about crpgs without all the icky people, just go to the Watch. That place already exists.

    2) RPG Codex rebranded as a free speech site would attract even more icky people, change the culture of this place, and make it more likely to attract attention from those who would want to shut it down.

My proposal is thus: people who are mostly here to post potentially-liable things should have their GD privileges removed and/or be sent back to the moderation queue in the gaming sections. If they don't like it and don't want to change, they should, at minimum, have to send their photo alongside their photo ID to DU. Freedom isn't free. :M

Why not just address the issue directly, rather than trying to be indirect about it?

The issue appears to be (feel free to officially say this is not the case if it isn't) that the tilt of the codex has moved too far in the direction of casual, aggressive, and vitriolic racism, and that has made at least one person who is important to the running of the codex uncomfortable enough that they are considering whether they want to remain involved with and associated with the codex, and that may put the codex's continued existence in jeopardy.

So why not just come out and say, "Cool it with the casual, aggressive, and vitriolic racism guys", and then follow up with moderation for the worst offenders who continue bringing up the topic the most frequently in ways meant to be deliberately edgy, offensive, and shocking?

I understand the desire to try to avoid just straight up moderating certain viewpoints since it weakens the free discussion that is a huge aspect of what makes the codex what it is and appears to present an "official" viewpoint, but all the indirect attempts to achieve that goal are only going to apply an even broader effect on freezing speech while being much less likely to achieve the desired end result.

Plus some reasonable causes for this policy can be given.

1.) The echo chamber effect is taking place. Since more casually racist folks and those whose primary motivation is to fight the culture wars have congregated on the codex since Gamergate caused moderation to tighten up regarding those topics at most other sites, that has caused a real and noticeable shift in the discourse and it has actually driven away other posters who disagreed with that or found it distasteful. We have had several public instances, and I am sure many more that never bothered making a thread or post about it. Especially given how vitriolic and hostile some are with it (which is true of the codex in general). This has actually weakened the diversity of different viewpoints being presented for discussion on the codex.

2.) It is putting the future of the codex in jeopardy.

And it needs not even be a total ban of the topic or viewpoint. People can still discuss what they feel are cultural and genetic differences between different groups of people if they keep it somewhat civil and it is brought up when actually relevant to the discussion. It would just need moderation for those who bring it up constantly in topics that are unrelated or only very weakly related, and those who want to be as shocking and offensive as possible with the way they bring it up.

Plus, as has been noted in this thread, saying things that are casually, aggressively, and vitriolically racist is not really very necessary for discussing RPGs in the first place. So the speech freezing effect it may have on those who no longer feel comfortable discussing the topic would only trivially impact the quality of the actual RPG and gaming discussion.

TL;DR: If you (as in the Admins of the site) want people to stop acting and talking in a certain way so frequently on the codex, just bite the bullet and moderate it directly rather than trying indirect methods. In the end it will have a smaller negative impact than more broad indirect attempts to accomplish the same thing and will also actually be more likely to achieve the desired goal.

Pretty much this. Over the last 6 years when more and more sites were putting a leash on certain subjects stirring up nothing but hate, RPCGodex has served like the filter that collects the filth from the internet.

You can propose your ideas how you want to rid of that. I would just throw away the filter and install a new one. Freedom of speech would never be touched. All topics can still be discussed in an adult manner but one needs to make it clear that degenerate posting habits are not welcome anymore so the subjects either give up and head somewhere else, or learn to behave like human beings again.

A split would imo be a clean solution. The people who want change back to civility could go to the new site, and the ones who like the place as it is now can stay here and take care of legal issues by themselves. For example Lady Error could buy the old site from DU, register at the NIC under her real name and run a server from West Sahara. Then they could try to maintain their envisioned free speech site about astrology, antisemitism, inceldom and anticapitalism while people like me do not have to be uncomfortable that their posts are hidden among all that filth.
