Prosper Atari Corpse Looting: Stardock got Star Control, Wargaming got MoO and Total Annihilation

(This was posted in another thread, but it was thought it should be split)
As Atari is now entering Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, all of Atari's properties are now coming up for sale.

Included as such is Star Control and MoO.

Both are each less than the average cost of a house in America.

Why isn't there a kick starter for this? I've emailed toys for bob about the idea but I doubt I'll receive a reply.

Is it because Toys for Bob is a activation property, and has no autonomy whatsoever?

There is a market here that nobody so far is tapping.

Master of Orion 2 with better graphics and balancing would send oldfag space strategist like into buying frenzy. Just gaphics, UI tweaks and balancing most obvious imbas and no EA and biowhore-llike "overhaul everything hurr". Are we asking that much?

Certain franchises have apparently :? already been sold.

Outcast:
In a financial statement published on May 15, Atari S.A. said, "Faced with the uncertainties relating to the proceedings that are underway in the US, where the Group's strategic assets and most of its business are located, the outcome of the Chapter 11 proceedings in the US will be decisive for all the stakeholders." The statement also reveals Atari S.A. recently sold the ownership of its "Outcast" franchise for a "nominal amount," and negotiations are underway at similar prices for its Desperados and Silver franchises.

No :( info on who's the new owner of the Outcast IP...

Desperados and Silver:
Nordic Games buys Desperados and Silver IP from troubled Atari

Publisher Nordic Games has acquired both the Desperados and Silver IP from troubled publisher ahead of Atari’s property auction next month.

You may remember Desperados as the stealth-tactics games developed by Spellbound. Set in the wild west, the original game ‘Wanted Dead or Alive’ dropped in 2001, while the sequel ‘Cooper’s Revenge’ hit in 2006.

Silver on the other hand was an action-RPG released in 199 for various platforms including PC, Mac and Dreamcast. It was originally developed by Infogrames and starred a warrior called David who had to rescue his wife from the villainous Silver.

I wonder what the story behind "Nordic Games" is...

They came out of nowhere in 2011 and swallowed up "JoWooD's" corpse whole.
Then recently they've bought a large chunk of "THQ", and now this.

Their own portfolio is full of shovelware garbage, and they've only existed since 2008.
Yet they seem to have plenty of cash to :? make those acquisitions...

Silver! Now that name brings me way back to the past. They never made a sequel or anything so I'm surprised it's worth anything at all.

Nordic Games were apparently originally founded 2008 in sweden. The logo looks suspiciously familiar but can't place it where I recognize it from but I doubt it's anything good.

I've had some experience with finnish, danish and swedish film- and video distributors/publishers and I wouldn't exactly call my experiences stellar at all, they tend to put out shit and I doubt small scandinavian game publisher is any different.

I have a strange and disturbing feeling that Firaxis may, after their regular drug orgy, buy MoO... With Brave new World release they may have attitude like "X-Com was a great success! Why won't we buy another Old skool gaem and turn it into a lucrative console remake!"
Now that I re-read what I wrote it looks even scarier.

Maybe Toys for Bob will buy back the rights to Star Control? They should have enough money lying around from Skylanders. I guess it depends on their corporate masters Actiblizzion, so probably no :(

Paul Reiche and Fred Ford are probably millionaires at this point, who could easily afford to buy the rights with their own money, but they wouldn't be allowed to use it to create anything good.

But if they bought the rights, it'd be theirs, so they'd be the ones to decide whether they'd be allowed to create anything good.

They should buy the rights to Star Control, quit their jobs, invest enough of their own money to make a prototype and then kickstart Star Control 3!

Not as long as TfB is owned by Activision they wouldn't.
