:hmmm:

And I thought THQ made mostly shovelware. Still, if they're buying old IPs that have zero AAA MILLIONS OF COPIES CITIZEN KANE OF GAMING potential they'll probably end up just like it in 5 years.

Well gearbox already bought homeworld for no sane reason, who is up to desecrate the corpse of MOO and Star Control? I swear I remember some strategy dev/publisher was interested in acquiring it a few years back. Paradox? Stardock?

Also I'll add that as far as a proper MOO sequel I would like to see:

- (multiple) moons around planets being colonizable. Basically in MOO2 terms they would add to the pop limit to your colony but have different bonuses per worker depending on type of moon while still being part of it sharing infrastructure, particularly orbital one. (the one thing the sequel which does not exist got right)
- a social engineering table like from alpha centauri, however you should be able to start and be locked to government types using custom race creation (like in the case of hiveminds)
- tactical turn based combat

However knowing our luck it's going to get bought by another IP hog who'll just sit on it because the managers think it's a good asset as far as dust collecting is concerned. Or we're going to get rape which makes MOO3 look like something that should be cherished.

Paradox, in fact, could be a good deal. But only if their main branch will do it. Cuz their anal slaves spawn shit like Majesty, impire and other crap on constant basis, permanently sucking money CK2 and EU devs earn.

Master of Orion 2 with better graphics and balancing would send oldfag space strategist like into buying frenzy. Just gaphics, UI tweaks and balancing most obvious imbas and no EA and biowhore-llike "overhaul everything hurr". Are we asking that much?

Same thing with Dungeon Keeper, we got few "games inspired by DK" which gameplay has pretty much nothing in common with DK and fans want nothing more then prettier version of the old game. Is it really that hard to understand, you dont need to invent anything new just make old shit shinier, when I talk about this I always remember Lords of Realm 3, and then I get sad :(

CEOs only understand "make new shit the same as the old shit" when the old shit is already getting 10+ million sales. Then they'll happily make the same shit year by year for a decade.

Nordic Games were apparently originally founded 2008 in sweden. The logo looks suspiciously familiar but can't place it where I recognize it from but I doubt it's anything good.

I've had some experience with finnish, danish and swedish film- and video distributors/publishers and I wouldn't exactly call my experiences stellar at all, they tend to put out shit and I doubt small scandinavian game publisher is any different.

For those that maybe interested:

I've tracked down the history of "Nordic", and its basically the pet project of a Swedish Multi-Millionaire with the money coming from his other businesses.

Guys name is "Lars Wingefors".
http://www.wingeforsinvest.se/meet-lars/history/

He apparently got rich of creating a mail order empire in the 90s, with mail order video game distribution being one of the most important components.
The details are rather muddy, but the end result is a company called "Game Outlet Europe AB".
"Game Outlet is Europe's largest buyer of overstocks of all English or Nordic language games products."
According to its website: http://www.gameoutlet.se/

This seems to be his main money maker.

He also now owns the Swedish arm of a retailer called "Game" which is apparently a British/Euro equivalent to Gamestop.
Game's Scandinavian operations were purchased by Nordic Games at the end of May 2012. Nordic Games purchased 55 stores (44 in Sweden and 11 in Norway) and Game's Scandinavian website, and also have a licensing deal that allows continued use of the Game brand.
Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_(retailer)
Website: http://www.game.se/

So that's where the cash to keeping "Nordic" afloat seems comes from...

Alright, so any news on the possible fate of our beloved old series? Will the rape be a gentle assfucking or a hardcore spiked-dong jackhammer-style anus pounding?

Yes, I know the auction is still a few days away. But surely somebody mentioned they're interested. Probably stardock and paradox, again.

I have a strange and disturbing feeling that Firaxis may, after their regular drug orgy, buy MoO... With Brave new World release they may have attitude like "X-Com was a great success! Why won't we buy another Old skool gaem and turn it into a lucrative console remake!"
Now that I re-read what I wrote it looks even scarier.

Great... I'll have nightmares about this for a week at least

Don't remind me of "XCOM". It lacks more than just the dash to be considered a true successor.

EDIT: And the no name vultures gather, wake me up when somebody competent (read: a former MOO dev that's not batshit or Brian Reynold's assuming he's not past the Spector-Molyneux decline threshold) tries to save it.

Why buy these franchises? They both have a rather generic space species design with no rich background history. I think gameplay or humour is not part of franchise right?
