It always feels off to see people of his age or even older use forced internet speak and smilies, like how GRRM sometimes writes on his blog for example. It just screams "How do you do, fellow kids?" to me...

Insert clever insult here
Funny that he still doesn't have a clue what is this about. Ed Greenwood probably thinks that the problem is that there is a tranny in the game, totally missing the point about the shitty writing.

He most likely has no idea. You have to remember that Ed Greenwood lived all his juvenile fantasies through his characters in Faerun, especially Elminster, his self-insert. Along the way, he became a nerd celebrity and sold a boatload of novels aimed at people who wished to do the same:

Elminster has literally saved the world multiple times by himself or by acting with a group of other heroes, has fucked almost every notable female spellcaster in the world including two incarnations of Mystra the Goddess of Magic (but not the third incarnation (Midnight) who became Mystra after Time of Troubles - in a weird moment of introspection, third Mystra was so troubled of her predecessors close relationship with Elminster that she wiped his memory - though she grew to love him sufficiently that she invaded The Nine Hells once to rescue him and when the Demon Lords retaliated, all of creation was nearly unraveled) and plenty of non-caster women as well. In Faerun, all women are hot and stroll around in leather thigh-high boots. When entrusted to become the mentor and father-figure for The Seven, he eventually even developed a May-December relationship with The Simbul who, by the way, has a habit of marching around wearing only flowing, open robes even after she becomes the Witch-Queen of Aglarond. I'm not making this shit up, it's all in his books.

So to him, Faerun is a place where everybody gets to enact all of their fantasies and dreams. If that means being a tranny shopkeeper, then that's just fine.

"Writing is hard. I have a degree in creative writing (which makes me qualified to work at restaurants all over the country!), and teach it to high school kids for a living. What I tell them is that the most important tool in a writer's kit is fearlessness. Writing is a part of someone, out there, for everyone to see. It is deeply personal, but also embarrassingly public when you do it for a living. It takes grit. If you falter, doubt yourself for second, and you do it for living, you might not get paid. You have to be tough.

I personally think Amber and Andrew have done a great job. Yeah, there's some sloppiness, but most of it feels genuine, and taps into that BG vibe (which, btw, has some sloppy writing all its own). There are legitimate criticisms here, but many of them are, the most part, overblown and full of vitriol, and, ironically, done with 0 grammar or punctuation.

Whether you agree with what they've written or not, like their style or not, join me in saying thank you to our Beambards. Who here could actually say they could take a name as powerful, as well loved as BG and do even a tenth of what they've done with it? It really is a Herculean task, and they've handled it with aplomb."

If you want to get a lot of likes over at the Beamdog forum, go spew bullshit like this.

I think a high school kid could probably do a better job than Amber.

"Update for people: I have received a response from David to the MP i have send when he ask for people feedback. I have send my thought about the fact it will be nice if the story of Mizhena don't focus on her transness, or at least not on a painfull story about transness, and also that it will be great if there a "oh yes just like me" or equivalente dialogue option. "

and also that it will be great if there a "oh yes just like me" or equivalente dialogue option.

That message is actually full of grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors. :D E.g. In the "bolded" sentence, the punctuation is incorrect as it now means that the person is "out there" for everyone to see and the second comma should be removed. Creative writing indeed.

"Just out of curiosity, what standard are we using to define an 'official' review? Is a review from some guy named Mathew Hopkins' blog being given the same weight as, say, PC World? Can I start up a wordpress page, write a review, and have it included in the score?

I think small time bloggers that aren't being paid for their reviews are going to be more subject to biased motivations for writing the reviews in the first place (as appears to be the case in this rather agenda-heavy piece). If we start including 1-man unpaid blogs in this score, we might as well start including user reviews from here on the forums."

There is so much wrong here.

That shit just cements my opinion that FR is one of the worst settings of 2nd edition era. That's being said, of course, now librul SJW discourse is en vogue, so both the other Cook and the guys and girl who created Dark Sun will probably be all aGG (and, more importantly, anti- common sense) too, because going against most peers opinions is hard. They have their established social circles which they don't want to lose status in, so it's understandable.

"This is a thread for official reviews, yes (people are free to think that SoD is better/worse than Witcher games, but this is not a subject of this thread). And it's very hard to define what an official review is.

For example, do http://shaneplays.com/the-siege-of-siege-of-dragonspear-a-baldurs-gate-story/, http://www.zam.com/article/300/why-i-probably-wont-beat-baldurs-gate-siege-of-dragonspear count? "

If you are a good writer but work at a restaurant, you should write a good quality story about the life of people working together at a restaurant.

It's reading, and developing an eye for the details that characterize scenes, people and places that makes you a good writer. Not what degree you have, and certainly not what most dumbfucks with "writing degrees" claim that teaches writing - "do more writing". Trying to improve you writing by just more writing leads to "genuine sloppines" and, at best, to the admiration of other genuinely sloppy people. My 2 cents.

Maybe, with enough prodding, they may even tackle the big question of what exactly an RPG is?

When the Codex review comes out, I'm definitely going to start a thread about it on the Beamdog forums. I want to see how much hate the Codex gets as an "evil misognyist harrasment conspiracy".
