That blurry thing looks like the rune/tattoo of torment.

On the other hand, it has the hashtag #Baldursgate.

Would be hilarious if these guys out-did Obsidian. Far from an impossibility.

It doesn't do that for me either, but it does have an alt value:
    <img id="medallion" src="/countdown/assets/bg-blur.png" height="300" alt="Adventure Y">

So are you going to be overleveled for the start of BG2 or how is this going to work?

Irenicus will suck away the levels we get in "Adventure Y".

The only thing that has me interested on this is to see what are they going to do with the story. Only a few days or weeks passed between BG1 and 2 and most of it was Irenicus raping and killing everyone.

Well, if all of Adventure Y is set in the Keep, then travel times should be quite manageable. Shouldn't take more than two weeks in-game.

Well, Bioware themselves stuffed up any chance at consistency already. For example, despite Quayle being in your endgame party in BG1, somehow he rescued and raised Aerie in the time between BG1 and 2. It already doesn't make sense, so the worst Adventure Y could do is provide more explanation.

Also keep in mind, Beamdog can't touch canon, so whatever happens in Y won't matter, because the starting companions in Chateau Irenicus will be the same, as well as any other canon NPC stories (Jaheira, Imoen, Minsc, Yoshimo in CI; Dynaheir dead, etc). They might be allowed to insert their own NPCs, especially since they all had romances from BG1.

Adventure Y seems to be a true Beamdog creation, even if it's sandwiched between the BGs, so they will be able to make anything they want with their own characters. It will all be a dream at the end, though.
What if Quayle tricked Aerie? he was an illusionist after all :P

It can easily be explained: Quayle rescued Aerie long ago and is on a trip for some reason when he meets the party in BG1. After the events he returns to the circus and Aerie.

Isn't the consensus that Beamdog sucks?

Hah, the Codex doesn't even know what the word "consensus" means. :D

? I've seen negative feedback regarding Beamdog, but I can't say I was invested enough to pay attention to specifically why.

I was just saying that there is no consensus about anything on the Codex. :)

As for Beamdog, they were generally hated when they released BG1EE, but after the release of BG2EE and IWDEE (which happened to be better ports), some people were saying that they are allright as developers.

Their added content in BG1EE and BG2EE was bad to average. I hope they do better this time around.

Adventure Y just seems like a completely unappealing idea for a game; the constraints of being an "interquel" between BG1 and BG2, using the same player character (and party?), seem far too restrictive.

I get it, they're interested in making "their own" IE game but are a small studio lacking the requisite resources to do so (the background art and sprites are extremely costly). Adventure Y lets them make a slam dunk product that might help convince sources of funding to finance bigger and better endeavors. But I think they could have done things a bit differently.

In Beamdog's shoes, my pitch for an Adventure Y would be akin to a BG1 conversion mod; the game uses the systems and art assets of BG1 (with, perhaps, a few sprite/spell/weapon loans from BG2 and IWD1), but radically remixes the content and flow of play.

The player would roll a new character (or party to satisfy IWD fans) who would begin in the city of Baldur's Gate after the events of BG1. Because of this, NPC placement, available quests, items, and so on could all be radically different from the vanilla game; fresh even to those who have played BG1 seven times. I'd have the world map, outside of Baldur's Gate, function like BG2's, with areas being "unlocked" as the player characters learn of them from quest-givers, town criers, or whatnot. Perhaps have a few destinations like Candlekeep, Beregost, Nashkel, and/or Ulgloth's Beard initially unlocked to serve as further quest-hubs.

"Unlockable" areas would mostly be quest-related treks to old BG1 maps repopulated with new encounters and quests. For example, what happened to the Gnoll Stronghold after the BG1 party romped through it*? Surely someone or something else occupied the structures (don't forget the cave systems underneath) and might make for a fun quest or combat romp. A lot could be done with the BG1 art assets and systems just by wiping them clean of encounters/quests and then replacing them with different content, creating a new gameplay experience without the need for heavy investment in expensive art assets. Sure, a few areas with nice, new backgrounds would be expected, but

And this approach will stumble into fewer pitfalls than the proposed interquel. A new character, disconnected from the Bhaalspawn saga, won't have any strange memory or consistency issues come BG2. There are also far fewer balance concerns as well; Beamdog won't have to thread the experience needle, trying to make sure the interlude between BG1 and BG2 doesn't level up the Bhaalspawn too much and avoiding some hackneyed, "LOL, level drained by Bodhi!!!111!" explanation if they forgo rationing out experience.

The "BG1 total conversion" strategy also has some business-side advantages, being a relatively stand-alone product that doesn't require the purchase of one-or-more games to enjoy. This version of Adventure Y could be easily picked up on by anybody browsing Steam or whatnot, with no need to have played a previous game to grok the whole story. And there can still be a lot of shout-outs to fans of BG1&BG2; a lot of NPC companions, like Xan/Shar-Teel/Kivan/Eldoth/Skie/Alora, had no appearance in SoA or ToB, allowing Beamdog to write them into the story for any fans they might have.

Then again, there's probably some serious flaws with this plan. It might not be that easy to door it may not appeal to anyone (but me). But it's what I'd rather see than the "ToTSC/HoW style questline(s) in between BG1 and BG2" that all available info has made Adventure Y out to be.

*Given that Minsc and Dynaheir were part of the canonical party as defined by BG2, those gnolls definitely were seriously reduced in number.
