Have to say they have a really good looking game. The game world looks unique (in a good way) and alien without going full :prosper:. It is definitely not another version of Forgotten Realms #3,275. If they get the gameplay of SotS refined and combined with this game world they might have a really good game here. I'm with ArchAngel in the sense that I don't play EA games and will wait for a complete game.

I doubt very much this'll make the 8-10 month release goal, especially if that's all they've completed of their world map. That's fine. Just make it good, Hannah and Joe!
You're probably right considering the 10 month goal is in 2 months. They maybe could have made it if they didn't spend all that time on balance but it was time well spent. 8-10 months is a relatively short amount of time in EA anyways. Either way I ain't complaining, so far I've enjoyed the game.

I personally hope that the third time's the charm and this is the one where they get it right. They seem pretty chill, their aesthetics are nice, all their games look like passion projects, and I also didn't get burned on their previous games, so I have no reason to root against them.

I did get burned by their last game, and I'm still rooting for them. Hope they take their time and make this one shine, particularly in the gameplay department. Aesthetically it's already a home run for me.

I'm gonna be very mad if this game doesn't have a Mr. T easter egg in it.

You know how he pities the banquet of foos!

Yeah, same. Frankly I don't understand the "I spent $25 on them last time and it sucked, never again" mentality. These folk have a genuine passion for the genre, and have sacrificed years putting effort into trying to make unique RPG's (even sold their house if I remember right). I'm happy throwing a small amount of cash to people like that every few years in the off-chance that they pull it off (and it sounds like they're pulling it off in this game).

In world of online forums, reviews, and gameplay videos one doesn't need to take an absolutist stance on any developer. Everything can be evaluated case by case and purchased with minimal risk. Particularly for the patient who can wait a year for the discounted "it's finished" version.

It's a little bit different when you Kickstart at higher tiers, so I get why some people get pissy about that or even myself at times.

I agree though re: passion and creativity, but I'm not giving them cash before release now. I figure they can front the risk on their own projects for a bit and show whether they can deliver anything before I'll head down that road again. Still though, I hope they bring out something good. They seem sincere regarding their commitment to their projects, I'm just not sure that they aren't too "artsy" for their own good at times and they could probably use another influence who's more into business spreadsheets and deadlines. :smug:

I still have my doubts about the combat system but that fight against the big horde of goblins looked like a lot of fun. Combat feels weighty with good physics and enemies dying in 2 or 3 hits.

SitS was Good For What It Is(TM). The spell system and simulationist way it interacted with the world was quite surprising, although I doubt most players rtfm + the Moon Lord’s Diary and knew how to (1) engage with the spell system and (2) recognize environmental clues that would be responsive to specific uses of magic, which reading those docs would provide the context for.

I like RTwP, but I'm still not sure about this. The flow of combat is weird. I don't know if that's a product of the enemy AI, in that they don't appear to rush (as is tradition) and instead kind of mill around the party. Watching more helped, but there is still something off-putting that I cannot place.

Reading the text I was expecting the bugs I see at a stream/lake near me; little things that sort of walk on top of the water and zip around the surface.

How far along are they in development at this point?

3.0 will hit the testing branch and then main in the next week or so. They spent a lot of time retooling combat so it looks like it'll just be more content from here on out.

Unless they decide to change art styles all of a sudden. And then do it again.. and again... and again....
