Make the Codex Great Again!
Played some Megamek back then, and only recently did I get into actual tabletop CBT. I am still trying to get used to the rules, so I haven't played with melee.

I haven't played BT for over a decade. Now that the current publishers covered for embezzlement and being outright SJWs I won't support them. The game is good for one or two mechs per side, but any more than that and you'll be spending 5-10+ minutes per turn per person. The split in the fanbase doesn't help. You have old ones from when the clans were introduced to the newest ones where Catalyst is just regurgitating the original FASA stuff for a new millennium.

Completely bizarre accusation that the developers are SJWs, I feel if that were true there wouldn't be people screaming that they were hiring nazis on twitter.

Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire
It's fun and perfectly playable with a lance on each side starting out. Got my brother who had never played a tabletop game in his life and couldn't wrap his head around Megamek's interface to get past the initial hurdle of learning rules and control two lances no problem and I think him having to count up target rolls and filling out the damage on his armor made it far more accessible to him. Just read the rules and keep the reference card handy and you shouldn't have any problems. The melee rules are also straightforward (and Battletech should not be played without them, WTF?) and simple unless you go for the advanced rules with things like grappling and grabbing severed arms for clubs.

It's nonsense. There's a very far left person who has been screeching and screeching at CGL and demanding they fire one of the writers, Blaine Lee Pardoe, who is right wing as they come, over...something. I have no idea.

The whole thing feels like a mess, with "faith" being a mentally ill man(and I don't mean transgender, I mean this person has invented an entire persona where he's actually a lesbian nurse with a wife and a kid on the way and allegedly none of this is true, it's just a crazy dude?) and trying to start a "pardoegate" among other silly things. They've been banned from CGL's forums and Mechwarrior online for hacking(MWO) and talking about shooting the guy(CGL forums) and they have just the angriest, most ridiculous account I have seen on this fair site.
Their blog is even more ranty, here's a quote regarding their dislike of Blaine Pardoe:
From everything he has shared publicly about it, his book is absolutely disgusting. It is akin to a modern version of The Turner Diaries, a white supremacist classic from decades past. I find it horrifying that a prominent member of the BattleTech community is publishing such vile filth. I find it disheartening that apparently a portion of the community stands with him and agrees with him in his hatred of our democracy. I also find it deeply disturbing the Catalyst Game Labs, the publisher of BattleTech, has not taken a stand against the vile filth that one of their top-level authors is peddling. Garbage like what Pardoe is writing is eroding out democracy and our way of life, and to stand by his side as he writes such trach for profit is disheartening. I also find it disheartening that his peers appear to remain silent as he peddles this madness. The time has come to take a stand against lies and to stand on the side of democracy. Mr. Pardoe is on the wrong side. I hope people will make their voices heard accordingly and make it clear that they stand not with Mr. Pardoe, but on the side of truth and democracy.

And here's them talking about how they didn't threaten him, but rather just stated they wanted to shoot him:
Let’s start with the big one: no threat was ever communicated to Mr. Pardoe. He claims to be in fear for his life, but he had to actually hunt for material that even comes close to the definition of threatening. The closest thing he has is a statement made that I wished to shoot him. I wish for a lot of things, they don’t constitute threats. The statement was made, for one, while I was inebriated, and secondly, was not even made to Mr. Pardoe himself. The statement was actually made to a Mr. Craig Reed, who surreptitiously passed the communication on to Mr. Pardoe in a vile breach of confidence. The comment was never intended for Mr. Pardoe’s ears, and as such, was not meant to instill fear in him. At no time did I intend to instill fear in Mr. Pardoe or his family.

Blaine has his own take on the matter. This whole thing seems really fucked up.

And I feel like if CGL were 'SJWs' they'd probably just go ahead and fire Blaine and give mr crazy pants whatever he wanted.

I don't have a dog in this fight, especially since looking at twitter 'faith' calls anyone who doesn't believe her side of the story one of his bootlickers, and I haven't read a single line of Battletech fiction as of today's date, I just like the game. It's fun! And the lore videos I found online were entertaining, the miniatures were fun to paint. The point is, I feel like a "sjw" company would have kicked mr pardoe's ass to the curb for his right-wing views a long time ago.

used to play quite a bit, both tabletop (when I was younger; got into it as a kid) and megamek. I'd consider playing again.

megamek definitely enables larger-scale battles that would be unplayable in tabletop, just by speeding up everything. the megamek coders have done some great work (also with mekHQ for campaign play)

Yeah man, I play BT tabletop on the regular. I constantly try to get my grug D&D group to try MechWarrior coz I fucking love the setting. The one time they agreed, they ended up helping Word of Blake (I tend to DM a bit further back in time) nuke a Draconis Combine world and steal a McKenna from a drydock.

Whoops.

Because of their extreme speech codes and if you don't line up politically for them you will get banned. It happened to me.

Post up a conservative viewpoint. It's their website, so they can do what they want. However, I can state the truth of who they are.

Razorfist always talks about how Cool Battletech and Mechwarrior are. The closest I have is the Game Lancer by the Creator of Kill Six Billion Demons.

It was cool, up until they introduced that space commies... err clans....

Do you really think the Clans are commies?

Yes, because that's how Jordan Weissman and Michael Stackpool wrote them. You have a strict caste system with an dictator ruling from the top of each clan. During times of war you have a dictator at the top ruling all the clans. Everyone gets their share without any money used etc...

They're a far cry from the republic Star League ideals.

No, I'm telling you the truth. The clans were written to be space commie lites ala socialist. Nobody owns personal property and get what they need from the government for free. Their entire society is structured around supporting the party (warriors) and the khans. That's how they were written. I don't know about you, but I was playing Battletech when it was still Battledroids. So it must be you that's not smart enough and are projecting your stupidity onto others.

Well, let's see:

1. He was banned for the CGL forums, for posting a "conservative opinion" - and he won't say what that opinion was, which means he probably got banned for being a dumbass, anytime someone is vague on the reason why they were subjected to disciplinary action, its usually because they were a dumbass. A pedo isn't going to tell people he has a criminal record for being a pedo, he's going to tell them he has a criminal record for enjoying "offensive art/photographs", a lefty-minded thief will say he was trying to help the homeless or for protesting capitalism(by stealing from a store) etc. Like I got banned from 4chan for a week recently for posting a thread saying that not a single screeching warhammer fan was going to boycott fuck all, and if they can literally kill a game line and replace it and have it churning out a healthy-ass profit a year after launch then they can fuck over fan artists with no issues. Must have touched a nerve.

I could say, "I was banned from the notoriously racist website 4chan for speaking truths that the evil incel neo-nazis didn't want to hear." and while that's technically, probably, statistically true, it's me not wanting to say "I got banned from 4chan for trolling."

2. The whole "The clans are commies" thing is really bizarre, communism isn't really all about practicing eugenics to make "better"(specifically breeding people to be good at killing or space travel) people or by forcing people to prop up a minority of warriors, they don't (nominally) believe in literal slavery, honor duel retardation, or throwing an entire invasion forced down the toilet and flushing 50 times because you really wanna win imaginary brownie points that mean nothing to anyone/

1. My posting history here shows that I'm a rather reasonable fellow. So this is an ad hominem attack.

2. The clans were introduced in Tech Readout 3050 and the accompanying Blood of Kerensky series in 1989/1990. That's near the end of the cold war. According to what was presented in those books it shows that there was no private property ownership, no money, everything given to you, with a single political party, etc... It was Soviet style communism to a tee. It wasn't until later that they altered the clans to be more realistic as the original version of them would be too stupid to live.

Eugenics was practiced by the Soviets. So yes, communism did try to make a better man via breeding.

The Soviet style of living was caste based. The party determined where and what you did. You had people that were stuck in jobs and had zero choice on what to do. Failure to do their job would mean being arrested and thrown in the gulag. They also used forced labor aka slavery. You also forget that the clans practice slavery called Bondsman. A bondsman is not a free person and owned by a bondholder. Until the bondholder sets them free they are a slave subject to the orders of the bondholder.

So instead of being a stuck up disdainful person you should attempt to talk to them. Who knows you might learn something.

So, people, as I said, anyone who avoids answering questions like this is most certainly not telling the true story.

I'm not debating politics with you until you answer the question as to why you got banned. And since you wouldn't be going these lengths to hide it unless it was horrendous, I guess that's the end of this conversation.
