Oh, and don't know if this has been posted already but they're planning - get this - DLC: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/new...y-Planning-Paid-DLC-for-Baldurs-Gate-Overhaul

Yes. Oster will sell you DLC for what can barely be descriped as a touch-up of Baldur's Gate. In before they sell clones of old mods for 10$ a pop :troll:

The sad thing is not that they will sell clones of old mods for 10$ a pop, but that enough wankers probably will buy it.

Trying to work through all the BG UI screens Here's a quick shot of some of the existing character generation screens.

I...don't get it? Is this his attempt to create an illusion of productivity? "Hurr guys look I found the BG2 interface you know that old thing right." Besides, if the BG1 remake is the first priority, shouldn't they be working towards the old authentic stone UI? Is his team consciously trying to recreate an out-of-the-box Tutu installation?

I don't get it. What is he pretending he is doing when he is "working through" those screenshots?? I think my mind is blowing.

At first I was like - Ha ha ha, oh wow! Those whiny Codexers! It can't be THAT bad! :smug:

Turns out the Codex was right. The Codex is always right eventually...

It's obvious this is amounting to nothing more than an iPad cash in. They've announced this months ago and have shown absolutely nothing that proves they've done a single thing to "ENHANCED" the game. It sounds like all they're doing is optimizing some of the behind the scenes code so that it runs better on the iPad and throwing in some bullshit character mod to justify releasing it for the PC too.

I'm not so sure about that, I think it needs more bold-expressive-elegant Futura hipster Apple fonts. And the headers will need to be in allcaps.

I wonder what this will cost. Apart from the iPad port, which I can sort of understand paying for, most mods out there offer more than just a new companion and a bonus dungeon. And they're free. So, Trent, better give me a good reason to buy something I already own.

If you give them enough money they may get to make BG3!

Think of it as a kickstarter except they show you how pathetically inept they are first and then ask for your money second.

Why would anyone want these dumbfucks making BG3? Boggles the mind.

GoG and GamersGate do not add any DRM on the games they sell.

Adding music requires them to hack the bgmain.exe since the track numbers were hardcoded in. Modders have already done that, so in BGTrilogy you can have both BG1 and BG2 soundtracks. Otherwise they are using Tutu/BGT code for using BG2 engine with BG1 assets and GemRB for playing on tablets. Couple that with Fixpack mods that fixed the bugs and vóila. You got BeamDogs mission statement.

They should have made a deal with modders to sell a "Baldur's Gate: Ultimate Modded Edition", instead of (pretending to?) roll their own thing up.

This isn't an unheard of thing, btw.

They're apparently actually including mods into the game judging by comments on a BG modding forum. Something about them going around and getting permission from modders to include them in the game. I can't provide a source so this is just meaningless blabbing but that's what I've read, anyway.

Oster does talk recently about including 1pp mod on his twitter, too.

You reminded me of all the shovelware CDs they had for Doom and Quake back in the 90's. I could understand them trying to make their own versions of fanmade content, perhaps so that the remake would carry some novelty of being more "official", but directly plucking things from the modding community just assures me they're completely incompetent. I don't even understand what claim to fame Trent Oster has for remaking the games, really - he was some random manager for the graphic artists who worked on the original, I believe? Has Bioware even commented on these remakes yet? Also:

    Trent Oster@TrentOster
The "Dwarven" UI theme of #bgee can be summarized as more stone, more metal trim and simple shapes, less elaborate ornamentation

    Trent Oster@TrentOster
We're revising it pretty hard. So far it is still in progress. Yesterday I described it "If the BG2 UI is elven, #bgee is dwarf"

Sounds like this UI will be the only remotely original piece of content in this remake. But frankly the way he describes it, it sounds like they're just going to be photoshopping the pre-existing BG2 one. "Dwarven" style, right.

You know, IF they are actully getting permission from the various BG modders, that is pretty cool of them. Unlike the shit dick move Interplay did, (IIRC) of them including Per's Fallout 2 patch with the Fallout 2 version on GOG and other sites, without even contacting or even mentioning him. Of which they are legally allowed to do, as it IS their property.

The UI can already be changed (and has) but it's a massive PitA. This is not a reason to Give-A-Fuck.
