id software Super Mario Bros 3 demo:

http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/261822/John_Romero_shares_PC_Super_Mario_Bros_3_demo_vid.php

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Commander Keen's release, John Romero has posted a video showing gameplay of a PC demo of Super Mario Bros. 3 developed by Romero, Tom Hall and John Carmack, with the aim of enticing Nintendo into partnering with the studio for a PC release of its smash hit, which arrived in the U.S. in 1990.

Nintendo declined the partnership, and the project was reborn as an original title -- Commander Keen -- which debuted 25 years ago today. The innovation Carmack and Hall hit onto was getting smooth console-like scrolling working on early PCs, which did not have dedicated hardware for games.

While the demo was widely known about, footage of it has not been publicly available before now. An earlier version -- Dangerous Dave in Copyright Infringement, developed by Hall and Carmack using a mixture ofSuper Mario Bros. 3 graphics and the lead character from Romero's prior game, Dangerous Dave -- had already surfaced on YouTube.

Fortunately I don't own any of those. It seems Rockstar is working on an update for San Andreas, so I guess you could cut them some slack?

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
"9 years after release, updated to remove 17 songs, and some graphics options, such as 1920*1080 resolution. Also broke many users save files."

What?
As I recall, the licensing ran out on some of the songs they used. The "update" was actually a port of an android version of the game. I guess that was easier than just fucking taking out the songs or renewing the licensing or just leaving the fucking songs in because it's already a finished product that exists.

Kids these days will never know the struggle when you bought Diablo 2 and game was fucking too big for your harddrive.

Or when you bought Magazine with CD in it and there were like 20-30 demo versions on single CD and each of those demos lasted hours and were longer and more fun than your average indie garbage games today people make.

Or when you tried to copy game from your PC to your friend PC on floppy discs and it took you like 7 hours pedaling back and forth between houses.

Loading times were atrocious and all that shit, but at least CTDs never existed.

Bah, kids these days... all of you next gen casuls.

If you haven't gone though the immense experience of connecting a cassette player to zx spectrum, waiting for the game to load for 15 minutes and just as its at 99%, wind blows from the window, caressing gently the wire, causing the loading to stop and having to wait for another 15 minutes to play the game.... you don't know shit.

The days when the business model of selling a game was showing you actually had a game worth buying, instead of locking in as many pre-orders as you can.
