Well we all know that the masses buy their console games based on how visually appealing they are so it would also make sense from the business perspective to use the new engin.

What's also funny is that Bethesda wasn't able to make a different interface for the PC version, yet some fan(s?) made one in about a month, without official development tools let alone access to the source code. How long would it have taken Bethesda if they had put a couple of competent guys on it? A week? A few days? But they didn't do it.

Well, no. Skyrim showed that the masses will buy it anyway - even with a terribly dated engine - as long as you hype it through the roof as the second coming. Why change the engine then? Wasted cash.
