Hello,

I'm a Black Geyser evangelist (a volunteer who helps spread the word). Let me share a brand-new indie project with you.

Black Geyser: The Courier is an isometric, party based, real-time RPG set in the world of Yerengal. A game that combines immersive graphics and brand-new features with the virtues of classic RPGs that we all loved! Solve mysteries, fight epic battles, help beggars and kings, outwit swindlers and gods, and never forget: the Geyser shall crush your soul, no matter where you die!

Their website:
http://www.blackgeyser.com

Kickstarter campaign is coming soon AFAIK. Note that I'm not part of the developer team myself, so sorry if I can't answer all questions. :)

Haha, this is great. It's like The Eye of Argon of games.

Choose between 5 races: Human, Dwarf, Deroni Elf, Fjeldegug, and Winged Rillow.

You think theft and magic are despicable? Then slay your enemies, face-to-face, with the Fighter class, or pulverize them as a berserking Crushmaster!

:)

Each spell belongs to one of the six spell types: Natural, Spiritual, Unnatural, Oriental, Summoning, and Ritual.

I'm afraid that one might cause you some trouble.

It will be available to PC as well. On their Features page, they list Windows, Linux, Mac, iPad and Android, with "CrossSave support".

Mobile devices are popular nowadays, so it makes sense IMO. Quoting the website:

CrossSave support
This allows you to continue a saved game on a different platform. For example, you can save the game on your PC before leaving your home, and continue playing on the bus with your Android tablet!

For becoming a volunteer, you surely must be impressed with the game. What do *you* like about the game so much that you dedicate your time to its marketing? You already shared the buzzword infested elevator pitch of the developer, now I'd be interested in your personal experience with the game / concept.

I hope you asked Prosper's permission, his artwork comes with strings attached.

I played some classic turn-based CRPGs in the 2000's. Why does this use real time with pause? And I'd also like to know if the player creates the whole party, or just one character.

This sounds like a trainwreck in the making, but I'm willing to give it a chance simply because it has a class named Crushmaster

Since you've brought this up: I'm impressed with the game, but I also know one of the developers (through a common friend). I never said there is no contact or affiliation -- I'm just not part of the official team, and I don't do any content for the game. (Yes, I expect to get a free Beta or even a free copy for my help. :) ) And yes, I collect your feedback and will forward the key points to their marketing guy. :)

My personal experience: it's very similar to Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale (my personal favorites), this is one of the reasons why I decided to be an "evangelist." They don't have millions $ for marketing, so they need every help. After I finish playing Pillars of Eternity a few times, Black Geyser will be be the next game I play. I could list things I like, but altogether, it returns somehow the atmosphere of BG/IWD (without the MindFlayer stuff, which I didn't like). This is the reason I offered my help to the team - I was a crazy Baldur's Gate enthusiast.

I hope you asked Prosper's permission, his artwork comes with strings attached.
If you aren't joking, could you please clarify this further? AFAIK, the artwork in Black Geyser is fully original, and there is no one called Prosper in their team.

This sounds like a trainwreck in the making
Why do you think so?

And I'd also like to know if the player creates the whole party, or just one character.
One character. Later, during the plot, several characters can join your party. You can have a party of up to three characters.

Feel free to ask further questions, and I'll do my best to find answers from the developers.

Real time w/ pause barely works on PC, and only with good developers, why would I want it on my phone where it is most likely going to be shit? You also come onto a PC first site and use quotes from some mobile person, which I just established is a bad platform for this type of game. All of this with just stock fantasy backgrounds at best to show on the site you linked. Not even a teaser trailer. If you are going to parrot what your buddy asked you to say then at least have something concrete to show us, otherwise don't bother.

It really doesn't, you'll be competing for pennies with thousands of other shovelware developers and the quality of the PC version (such as it is) will suffer hugely from being dumbed down for mobile.

I'm calling bullshit. I don't believe for a second that anyone - even friends and family of the developers - cares so much about this banalshitboring generic fantasy shovelware that they're willing to hype it, unless they're the ones who might be making money from it.

Also, this is hilarious:

Also, this is hilarious:
Compared to other art on the webpage, this concept indeed has issues . I asked them why they put it on the webpage. They said it was created by one of their friends a year ago, and their concept artist might use it to get the idea about the actual concept/illustration. That's why they call it "early concept". I personally wouldn't have put it on the webpage (it doesn't look OK compared to other art they have), but it was their decision. Nonetheless, why must an indie promo website look like a Blizzard flagship project, though? They showed what they have, even if it's under development yet.

So you know already they don't have good developers.
So you know already that it's going to be shit on your phone. I don't get it, but your call.

It is sad that you think so.

Even though I'm not a dev of Black Geyser, I used to work in IT field, so I can tell you that it's possible to make quality editions for PC and mobile, without affecting each other. They don't follow the publisher-based model. They want to crowdfund their game. It gives them a big freedom in terms of project schedule as well :)

If you are going to parrot what your buddy asked you to say then at least have something concrete to show us, otherwise don't bother.
Feel free to ignore the project then. :)

And guys, does my person really affect the credibility of the project? Does it matter if I work for a PR firm, or I'm truly an evangelist for this game? (I communicate like a marketing pro eh?) Thanks for your feedback anyway, and keep writing.

Is the entire Black Geyser site under robots.txt? Google finds this thread but not it.

That is for you to prove Black Geyser Evangelist. Show us it won't be shit on my phone, or anything at all really. Right now the website has a distinct lack of anything but some stock fantasy assets and one shot, which I could do.

They launched the website a few days ago. You are one of the first people to hear about the project.

Are the developers Eastern European?
No, USA and Vienna, Austria. (Austria isn't considered Eastern Europe AFAIK, if that's what you meant).

The guy on the left is the current state for "Crushmaster 3D model". The right one is a peasant.

From the poll on their website:

Our kickstarter campaign will have amazing rewards! Pledges of $20 or more will also give you the full game for free. Do you plan to participate?

Wow... just wow.

Just wait for the inevitable: "Due to various problems we had to erase the free bonus : THE GAME, for all our backers."
