Returned to it. Bad move. Fucking sucks. Probably one of the worst paced games ever.

As someone who skipped the 2nd game and gone in blind, what's annoying is it's taken this long to get to a point in the game where you can get any real feel for the characters & their playstyle
Which is really confusing is the fact that it is Diablo with guns yet in Diablo you get your build/class play style very quickly.
The stupid "it takes a couple of lvl to unlock a action skill" and the stupid always 5 levels of passive upgrades just make for a glacial action and arpg like game.
When you have a maxed character the builds are fun and there is plenty of variation among classes.Reaching that point though,is just painful.

significantly worse than the other borderlands games
Eh,depends.
Loot wise it is miles better then 2 and tps because loot doesn't get obsolete so quickly and the drop rate is second only to the first, which is a good thing. Farming the same bosses 50+ times is not fun.
Nothing like the first game where loot feels natural.

Story wise it is garbage because you can't skip stuff and it has the worst story/characters of all the games by far.

Shooting wise it is the best by far.Added mobility and gun accuracy is certainly improved over the other games.

Level design wise,it is a big meh.Multiple planets that don't feel like planets(they are just generic planet theme with lots of empty space) and Pandora is just disappointing.
I would say 1 nails Pandora the best. 2 is the most diverse and Tps is the same as 3,meh.

Skill wise,it is the best by far.Multiple action skills and the trees are much better then 2 and 1.They are more interesting and allow diversity among your class.
I still prefer the TPS class and tree, that was just insane in a good way.

Quest wise, they all suck.I guess 1 is the best because there is the least amount of talking involved.

The constant waiting around for people to finish talking and the insipid npcs did me in a few hours into the game. There was this quest about getting some californian brit some coffee so she could lead the troops where I just immediately got out of the game and uninstalled.

I really wish they would let me kill some npcs, fallout style. Also sanctuary III is cancer to navigate.

Codex 2012 Strap Yourselves In Codex Year of the Donut Codex+ Now Streaming! Dead State Project: Eternity Codex USB, 2014 Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath
When you look at it Borderlands 1 bareboned story with minimum dialogs about group of adventurers looking for a treasure is really underappreciated. It was just a simple excuse to go out to kill and loot.

Every game after that decided to force as much as possible talking during every aspect of the game. I didnt play third game but I really got annoyed how the series went from simple treasure hunting to leading rebellion against evil corporations with tragedies and edgy dialogs.

That's because the art style, theme and plot idea were stolen by Randy from a short 3D animation called CodeHunters.

Thats beside the point, you could easily make Borderlands 2 be a game about those or another group of adventurers looking for treasure on another planet. You could have a entire series be about your heroes who travel the galaxy treasure hunting treasures every game on another planet. But instead we need to have a story about muh resistance, because leftist are obsessed about fighting the power, even when in reality they are the power they still fantasize that they are "resistance".

Its glaring in all modern media when shit tier writers try to make complex and deep stories only to fall flat every time. It would be best for everyone to keep it simple as possible but it seems that especially in gaming the writers try to prove that their careers are equally worth other media so they force "complex" stories.

I agree, but even a story about muh resistance could have worked, it's not any less cliche than hunting for treasure, though the later is far more fitting for the setting and art style.

Problem with Borderlands IMO is that the authors constantly think they are far more clever and funny than they actually are, so you end up with with a narrative trying to be witty, but also drowning in painfully unfunny dialogue, and there's nothing worse than comedy written by unfunny woke women - just look at everything Larian has shat out.

Same problem Outer Worlds faced really, a bunch of dumbfuck cargo-cultists that have never stepped outside of their woke bubble trying to create a story and characters that would be relatable to the average human and failing utterly at it.

I remember reading that a good author can make almost any premise work, and I tend to agree. The real issue is that we've moved from nerdy white men writing functional plots for games, primarily in service to the gameplay and who had enough self-awareness to know most of what they wrote was pure camp, to woke whores writing purple prose in service of their own narcissism, thinking they are going to shatter the glass ceiling and show all the evil men how much better women are.

The sad truth is that they consistently fail to write a plot better than the gaming equivalent of porn movie storytelling.

but it seems that especially in gaming the writers try to prove that their careers are equally worth other media so they force "complex" stories.
That's because most of those clowns are desperate to write the script for a Hollywood movie, or are trying to become a big fantasy author, and view writing for games as a mere jumping off point for their (nonexistent) careers.

I was kinda annoyed they weren't going to continue the story of the first game, because it was a surprisingly good game with some real stand-out moments. But, eh, probably for the best...

They didn't have to do much to make a decent game out of the original idea but they managed to fuck it up to an incredible extent

If you mean Tales from the Borderlands they kind of did continue the story in 3. Rhys is a CEO now. No idea what happened to Fiona and Sasha, but I don't really care. I saw a playthrough of tales and I found them annoying. Most the main characters were annoying, actually, save that robot. I was kind of hoping for Jack to win.

It's really disappointing when I can find good ideas in the series from 3 onward---the idea of a cult that works like a Twitter/Facebook fanclub is funny to me for some reason---but holy shit the first 10 seconds of this new video were enough for me to bail out.

Series peaked at 2 IMHO and will likely never go back.
