"It wasn't 'Hey, come to Double Fine.' It was 'Come to Double Fine and make The Cave,'" Gilbert explained. "I was telling him [Tim Schafer] about The Cave and he really liked it, so he said 'come to Double Fine and make it. It was really all about making that game."

But why just make The Cave? Why not stay later? "I don't know why it was temporary," Gilbert said. "We didn't talk necessarily about what I would be doing after The Cave. I was so focused on that. And I tend not to think about a lot of that stuff. So then when it was done we just kind of decided that it was done. No big thing happened."

"I would love to do something again with Double Fine," he said.

Scurvy Scallywags has already been in development for a few months and Gilbert said it's due "in the next one-to-two months."

J_C is the resident Double Fine apologist. Calling all of those Double Fine games 'good' is stretching it. They're okay... and not really much better than some of the stuff Fargo put out prior to his Kickstarters (excluding Hunted!). As far as them getting the adventure game out before Wasteland 2, that remains to be seen.

guys are coping with the whole "preproduction problem" thing that inXile has to deal with. Do their writers have nothing to do now?

Berlin, I'd imagine. And if those are successful, I wouldn't be surprised if we see a few more expansions and then a sequel.

Despite my previous comments, I'm sad to see Gilbert leaving. And this is not a good sign for DF cause it's really confusing.
It is really not confusing. He was there on contract for this one game. Like Ziets on Project Eternity.

Being a joker and being able to write funny stuff is not correlated.

I'm not expecting him to be a joker but whenever I see him talk he seems completely disinterested and bored and lacking any of the energy one would expect from someone who made MI.

I agree with RPGMaster. He certainly looks bored and disheartened.

I mean look at the history. He created an awesome engine (an engine that was used for a decade by Lucasarts) for Maniac Mansion , a fantastic non-linear adventure game with multiple endings. Then went on to ZakMckraken, a very funny and quirky game. Afterwards we have the secret of Monkey Island, probably the most famous adventure game of all time and then Monkey Island 2, which was even better. And after that... he kind of faded away. He only took small parts in various games and it took him almost 20 years to design a new game himself (deathspank) and it wasn't anything much, same deal with the cave. I don't know what happened after 1992, it could be he lost interest.

Maybe he contracted that thing George Lucas has while he was working at Lucasarts.
You know, that horrible disease that makes you make some cool stuff first and then only boring shit after that.

He also, y'know, started a whole games company (Humongous Entertainment), but its games were targeted at kids, and so aren't considered :obviously:.

I would say Broken Age doesn't sound generic, but just weird. It doesn't flow at all or make any sense on it's own.

On the other hand, Full Throttle and The Longest Journey are rather generic names, but they worked well enough.

Yeah, I don't know... Broken Age reminds me of Dragon Age. :?

As for Full throttle, it fits the setting really well, that's why I think it would be better for Tim to bust his head until he came up with a good name --like he did with Grim Fandango-- since he is the writer after all. Fans only have a vague idea about the game.

Agreed, those titles are poor. Some of the fans' suggestions in the thread are amusingly terribad as well. This seems like the wrong sort of thing to leave to the backers.

I think I hate Double Fine now because their fans have such fucking terrible taste in titles (and suggestions).
