Did Ron said where he is going to work? Man, that teasing of his with that article about Monkey Island is very interesting... his sudden talk about what he would do if he made another Monkey Island... Is very suspicious, sound like testing waters ... a KS, maybe? I really hope my conspirancy theory is right and he has the opportunity to make a proper adventure game.

Didn't Ron already announce what his next move is? I think your nostalgia has kind of got hold of your hopes. The Cave is what Ron believes is an adventure now, we're never going to get a classic adventure from these guys, or a new monkey island.

Isn't Ron working on some weird Pirate Musical RPG but it looks a lot like iphone shovelware?

I think the Cave was the way it was because Ron fell in love with Limbo, but who knows.

Ron probably wasn't entirely to blame for The Cave, it's lead designer was JP Lebreton (whatever that means)... and it always seemed like Double Fine / Sega had a knife at his back to call it an adventure game, after their Kickstarter raised his and the genre's profile (which was months after the game had started development). They kind of threw The Cave under a bus when they decided to lead the marketing campaign with having every interviewer ask Ron "is it an adventure game?" (per their usual "lets be bastards about what genre our games are!" marketing strategy). His blog post on "The Real MI3" seemed somewhat like a veiled apology.

He did show up in the latest doc (back after leaving, maybe in response to complaints?) with 4-pages of "don't like" notes on their alpha.

Based on the video it seems that Gilbert doesn't like the game which based on his recent output his probably a good thing.

His three pages of dislikes are probably suggestions to make the game more arcadey. He geniunely doesn't seem to even like P&C adventure games anymore. I hope Schafer threw those pages in the trash.

Ron Gilbert took a turn for the worse ever since he became a World of Warcraft player.

So, a week after the release I managed to watch the latest documentary. I must say, seeing the game some more in action, I'm getting used to the art style. I kinda like it now, and think that it will be OK for this game. Broken Age won't be the best Double Fine game, but it seems Tim and Co take great care with the story and the character. I think it will be an enjoyable point and click adventure.

Unfortunately due to the Internet culture unless it's the Second Coming it will get pissed on, even if it is a good game.

Mm, I'm still not convinced tbh. The character design still puts me off.
I mean Amanita Design games are a proof you can make cute and whacky graphics without the game looking like a TV show for kindergarten kids.
But I keep my mind open, Tim is a cool guy and a great designer, let's wait and see.

I knew there was something wrong with this game, complete lack of any concept art other than this disgusting two headed logo of theirs was big alarm sign. And all this crap about them screwing up with management and wasting money, yeah. Guess this is the first "big" kickstarter project to fuck up though considering how pretentious the game seems to be there'll be plenty of people defending it.

I didn't back it and am not a Double Fine fanboy so I don't really have a horse in this race, but those Broken Age screenshots are beautiful. I find the art and over all aesthetic way more appealing than Monkey Island 3, for example (which was functional and charming in its own way, but at the end of the day tended towards a more plain sort of cartoon realism). All of Schafer's games beginning with "Grim Fandango" have been pretty stylized in terms of their aesthetics and none of them look alike, so I don't see why anyone is suprised that this one is stylized and doesn't look like any of his other games as that's kind of his MO at this point.

I had zero interest in Broken Age before, but everything I've read about it makes it sound kind of cool now.

There's a DoubleFine Humble Bundle going on, for 35$ you get a preorder of Broken Age, along with the previous tier games (Costume Quest, Psychonauts, Stacking and Brutal Legend, maybe some bonuses down the line).
70$ and they throw in a T-shirt :martini:

So they're probably going to sell this at $40ish retail.

Broken Age was originally planned to be completed in April, but according to the documentary the schedule has been extended until September. The costs of a lengthened development have forced Double Fine to search for more money. Double Fine still welcomes supporters that missed the Kickstarter deadline, but in the documentary Isa Stamos, director of product development, affirms that the studio either has to dramatically increase funding or reduce the scope of the game. In Episode 8, Double Fine’s vice president of business development, Justin Bailey, reveals that profits from the release of Brütal Legend for PC will almost entirely feed into Broken Age.

Good lord. They burned through THREE MILLION DOLLARS in just over a year?

No, 2.2 million was the final budget and they were going to run out of money based on the projected end date. They hadn't yet run out of kickstarter money as of the filming of the documentary episode.

Everyone's complaints seem to be about art and tone. I don't see how less (or more) money would change those.

The question is if they could afford the artist if they raised just the $300k.
