Haha, I wasn't aware of Kotick's comment on Brutal Legend. This whole BA fiasco really makes you see publishers in a different light, doesn't it?
Umm, no? It seems you haven't seen the miriads of potentionally good games ruined by the riskfree, profit oriented publishers. And if you suck up to publishers just because an indie game has problems, you are stupid.

Yes, I suck up to publishers because I find it funny that Bobby Kotick, of all people, called out Schafer on his awful project management skills, and was 100% right as this whole situation proves. On the other hand, if you really believe this is an "indie game", then it is you who are stupid, so painfully stupid. Next thing you know, Far Cry Blood Dragon and Divinity: Original Sin are also indie.

In any case, in the NeoGAF thread about this, there was a dude who commented "Now we all know how it feels to publish a Tim Schafer game.". Like it or not, there are studios who clearly do need publisher pressure in order to get anything done at all. Double Fine sits firmly in this category, and apparently Silicon Knights did as well before their untimely demise.
Yes Divinity:os is an indie game. Indie doesnt mean a studio with 2 guys. It means independent, and Larian is an independent studio. You are narrow minded if you only recognise the 2 man studios as indies.

Narrow-minded, as in, I don't want to easily excuse DF's fuckups because they're "indie" and shouldn't be held up to professional standards? J_C, all these studios, Larian, DF, InXile, they've been in the industry for a long time, worked with publishers on "AAA" games, the fact that they're trying to become independent now doesn't make them the same as those sub 10 people teams, working on their game part-time. And that's exactly what people mean when they say "indie". We wouldn't even be having this conversation if not for your deplorable attempt at sucking Schafer's cock in this thread.

Part 2. Wow, he sounds like a real bully.

Daedelic aren't a 'small time European developer who work for bread and water'. Cost of living in Germany isn't exactly cheap, and Hamburg, being the second largest city in a first world country isn't going to be paying people with potatoes and goats milk.

The comparisons to Daedelic are entirely fair. If Broken Age was a Shaefer script, with Daedelic as the team, it would have been the game that I wanted, and I'm probably not the only one.

The sad thing is that this is painting artists as incompetent, which the vast majority aren't.

Not that I disagree in general but California (and especially San Francisco) is kind of a special case. Cost of living there is insane, and so are wages and benefits. He probably pays everyone there much more than you would expect. At least 100k a year for programmers, which means 150k with benefits.

:rage: fuck this game I hope it bombs and Schafer goes down with him. Smug developers who are above us poor degenerate gamers like the guy who made Fez piss me off.

I'm joking, but I really dislike this holier than thou attitude.

Yeah, he probably should just ignore the comments from now on and focus on funding and actually making the game. You'd think he'd have thicker skin after all those years in the business, but I do get that he's way too close to the project not to get protective in this case. He's probably in a really goddamn stressful position atm, but it seems like that's pretty much his own fault.

Wow, Tim is not just a good dev, he is also a good troll.

No he isn't. He's made the classic rookie mistake of trolling using his real name.

A name he uses when trying to get money out of people, especially the "young kids hiding out in their parents' basement" and "old lonely guys bitter about their lives" who are probably the kind of people who have spare money enough to fund his projects.

It's not trolling, it's a case of Retarded Old Developer Syndrome.

It's bad being a bitter old guy. What's cool is being a clown fooling people out of their money. Listen to Tim, he knows how it's done.

At this point it's clear that you're either trolling or just have your head so far up his ass that you can't see daylight anymore.

The guy fucked up badly, made some extremely poor decisions, is now taking some major heat for those fuckups, and now he's lashing out at people personally instead of playing it cool and level-headed. This isn't trolling. It's being a bitter old man who knows he fucked up badly, and now he's insulting pretty much the exact people that funded and made this thing possible in the first place.

I'm sorry, but you are clearly a shit troll. After the debacle with the big thread whining that you were going to leave and then pulling a "hehe yeah, I'm actually not, I'm just a super troll, jokes on you losers!" and now this cum-guzzling, it's clear that you are just a really, really shitty troll. What happened to you, man?

Wow, J_C not only sucks Schafer's cock but he's loving it.
If you could imagine how good it tastes. You should try some.

Nope, he isn't. He is just a bully of the worst kind, cyber-bully.
So if the Codex does it, it is trolling. But if Tim does it, he is s cyber bully. Roffles!

Damn, don't be this hard on the Codex. You do know that many Codexians pledged for Kickstarters? Not everyone of us is a basement dweller or an old lonely guy.

now he's insulting pretty much the exact people that funded and made this thing possible in the first place.
You mean he is trolling the two guys who pledged 1 dollar to his projects. Yeah, those 2 people made his project come true.

it's clear that you are just a really, really shitty troll. What happened to you, man?
Lot of people attacking me constantly, because of my posts I think I make a very good troll.

Actually I just don't agree with people saying things like "you have no business in games Tim". He is right to call out those retards. Even if the haters take it as a "bitter old guy is cyber bulliing his loyal fans". Which is not true.

Again, when you more or less resort to being a charity case for your fans, when you ask people for money for the sake of making your video games, doing your own job and getting rich (presumably, if the game gets super popular like Minecraft did), you're not allowed to mock someone for giving you a dollar or helping you in any single way. It's a dollar that can count in the longer run.
I mean, you can insult and desperately try to save face by "trolling" those guys, but then people will just label you as a cunt and that's it.

They are somewhat right. While Tim has an abundance of skills which could be useful in making games shine, I don't think he really is fit for the position of a leader of a company. He can be the guy who writes the funny script, maybe add some of the puzzles. But he should leave handling the general project with other, far more competent people.

Except that there are a couple of differences: Whatever Tim is doing might affect his company reputation, whatever Codex is doing might affect shit. Hence if Tim is butthurt (and he clearly is), he should try to keep it low because there is a lot of hate on the Internet and nobody sane would like to focus that hate on his person/company.

Personally I don't care what Tim is doing, but this kind of shit with tweets is not the right way to handle criticism. Bullying some cretin on the internet will have no benefits whatsoever. Do I need to say more?

Well, there is a pretty thin line here, I think. There are quite a lot of people I saw claiming they donated the minimum to various campaigns just so they can comment/troll. It's pretty difficult to take seriously and listen to someone who does this even if that dollar still gets in your pocket.

Yet Double Fine is in the business for 13!!! years. And not just that. They succesfully changed their business profile from AAA games, to several indie like projects in the last few years, and they were doing all right. Yet when the first problem rises, suddenly "Tim has no place in the game industry". And you yourself said that it is not true, because the only problem Tim might have is the lack of business skill (although I disagree), he has the skills of a developer (writing, gameplay etc). So why doesn't he have place in the industry?

Except that there are a couple of differences: Whatever Tim is doing might affect his company reputation, whatever Codex is doing might affect shit.
Well I don't see that anyone outside of the Codex is giving a fuck about those tweets.

I'm not saying that one should suck the cock of everyone who gives him a penny. But one should not have the attitude Tim has either (LOL NERDS LIKE A GIVE A FUKK ABOUT YOUR DORRA GET A LIFE).
I have made a few 1 dollar pledges myself in order to see the backer-only updates.

I know, I did the same for some projects. But I'm not going to rage with the developer if the project goes wrong. Because I only pledged 1 dollar, I won't give a fuck.

Actually, The Codex twitter account does not do anything like this at all. How low do you have to fall, for the Codex to look professional and mature by comparison? But I guess it's fine, Tim Schafer is an indie developer after all.

That's not successful, that's the actual opposite. And their big projects also had lots of problems with budgets, delays, moving from one publisher to another and so on.

Yet when the first problem rises, suddenly "Tim has no place in the game industry". And you yourself said that it is not true, because the only problem Tim might have is the lack of business skill (although I disagree), he has the skills of a developer (writing, gameplay etc). Well, it is his lack of ''business skill' that we criticize, so maybe he should just step away from that.
Also, I wouldn't call his design direction particularly amazing either. Like i said, most games where he was project lead by himself (post-DotT) have smaller or bigger flaws or plain stupid things, like they keyboard interface in Grim Fandango or the action scenes with bikes in Full Throttle. I appreciate Schafer just like most of us appreciate Avellone, for the writing (certainly not for the Arcanum LP )
