GameSpy has finally gotten around to reviewing the expansion pack to Dungeon Siege 2. They give it a 3/5 stars and write a bit more positive things than most reviews have. Here's a bit on what's good:

One major improvement over the original is the addition of reagent recipes. In Dungeon Siege II, the developers added reagents that could be applied to enchantable armors, weapons, jewelry and spellbooks, but almost without exception, anything you had enchanted paled in comparison to anything found off creatures. Now you can discover reagent recipes -- as quest rewards, in chests and hidden alcoves, and off of monsters -- that create special enchanted magic items that are better than what can be enchanted normally. And they really are more powerful. Many of them are good enough to replace the armor and weapons you find off the monsters, and it makes the enchantment system useful for a change.

Things like this always make more mundane games a little more interesting. It's a damned shame not too many people played Prince of Qin. Now there's a game with a cool crafting system.

Hm, Prince of Qin just got released in Poland, after all those years. For $10... maybe I'll check it out.

I've got Prince of Qin, and played it for a while, but then something came up, and I began using the box to store drugs, so I couldn't play the game.

Now the box is empty again, but I have a lot of other games to play first. This makes me realize how much better the old big boxes are than the dvd-cases.

Prince of Qin was great, for a while.
Certain aspects (e.g. crafting) were wonderfully implemented, but the plot and quests I didn't find as engaging as they should be.

I enjoyed it for a while, but still haven't managed to finish it. All the same, I still recommend it to those who are curious about it, there is some good stuff in there.

I bought the sequel (?) about two weeks ago (for about a third the normal price for a new game!). Hopefully things like crafting are as good, and the quests etc a little better. It has the original mandarin with subtitles, so no annoying voice acting, yaay.

I tried the demo of the sequel, and I just couldn't get in to it. I wish they'd moved away from the "YOU ARE THIS PERSON" to a more general "WHO DO YOU WANT TO BE?" type of game with the sequel amoung other things.
