Hit its goal of $30,000 immediately, at $70k as of time posting.
Once upon a time, three great cat colonies lived in a plentiful forest. For generations they thrived, each within their own holdings, hunting the critters of the region and harvesting the fruits of the land to survive and flourish. Sometimes conflicts arose, but each of their leaders shared a mutual respect for the spiritual mediator of their world: The Forest Guardian.
A cat seeks wisdom from the Forest Guardian at the Temple.
The word of the Guardian was law, and all cats revered them. They kept the balance over the cat-lands, watching over the felines of the forest and working tirelessly for the benefit of all. Several wonderful years passed, and the cats of the forest went about their lives. Until one fateful day...
In an instant, the Temple was shattered! The terrible sound of ancient masonry rending and cracking could be heard for miles, and every cat of the forest shuddered with fear. Worse than the destruction of the hallowed shrine was the fading of its Guardian…
A new home must be found or else the Guardian's spirit would not survive the calamity. A great meeting was called with all of the cats of the forest in attendance. Many ideas were discussed at length, and there was much debate.
A decision was reached that each cat should set out to find new lands to settle. Maybe some would have the strength to build a better life in some other corner of the world.
You, being a cat of great renown, offered to lead a group into the unknown to discover a place to build a new home. Soon, cats from all colonies took up your call and set out to find a patch of earth to call your own...
An expansive open wilderness stretches before you on all sides. If you are going to survive, you will need to understand how the region is affected by the passage of time.
Seasons pass and the land changes with them. In the springtime, you’ll find plenty of critters to hunt and new flowers in bloom. During summer, potent herbs worth stockpiling can be harvested if you know where to find them. When autumn comes, the air cools and prey begins to burrow, but delicious mushrooms dot the forest floor. Winter’s approach signals a time of resting and reflection as many animals hibernate and herbs become scarce.
Some days are sunny and pleasant, but others are not. The weather can shift in an instant! Storms roll through and thunder roars in the sky. Snowfall prompts the mice and squirrels to run and hide. Fog makes it easier to sneak, but also more difficult to spot any threats lurking in the gloom.
Nighttime offers an opportunity to discover exciting new things. Catch fireflies on a warm summer night or beetles in the chill of a winter evening. Nocturnal bats and spiders emerge from their hiding places to hunt. The elusive Queen of the Night flower only blooms after the sun has set. If you are lucky, perhaps you’ll even see a meteor shower?
The Wildwood is a large, varied region that has everything a cat colony needs to establish a permanent home. There are dense woods, flower-filled meadows, pine-covered hills, dark swamps, sandy beaches, and even a volcano to explore!
Hidden throughout the Wildwood are ancient amulets called Power Paws. When found, they will bestow upon you enhanced abilities.
Legend has it that any cat who collects many Power Paws will be able to fight longer, hit stronger, and endure hunger more readily than the average feline.
Scattered throughout the Wildwood are dark ruins, strange places built eons ago by cats who have been all but forgotten by time. Once wholesome and filled with light, now the ruins are hiding places for evil spirits that attack any cat who would intrude upon the primordial stones.
To ensure your colony is safe, you will need to enter each and disperse the darkness within. Gather your wits, because several of these dangerous places are filled with puzzles and traps!
A colony is built on trust, so it is critical that you get to know the cats who have joined you on your journey. Every cat has a story, and you might learn a good deal if you listen carefully to what they have to say.
While your colony starts small, you'll eventually want to expand. More residents can be attracted over time if you've made your town a welcoming place for roving felines to put down roots.
Every cat has a den, a place to call home. Krampy's den houses lots of... medical supplies?
Complete tasks that are posted by members of the colony in order to reap special rewards. Check back daily to see what jobs need doing.
Once per season, the cats of the colony will put on a Festival, a celebratory time when there’s games to be played and prizes to be won.
Spending your time with others is a great way to make friends! Stick around and chat for a while, or bring an extra item you have laying around to give as a gift.
Once you've made a friend, who knows? Maybe they'll pick out a special gift for you. Of course, you'll want to make sure you don't forget about your friends' birthdays. Check your calendar regularly so the day won't creep up on you.
After getting to know someone really well, you will know if you're interested in being more than friends. In that case, you will want to bring them a Red Rose to confess your love. With any luck they'll feel the same and the two of you can begin dating.
If all goes well, you might want to consider a proposal! Getting married is a big deal. Your partner will move into your den, and the two of you can consider expanding your family by raising a cute litter of kittens together. If a wedding is in the cards, start saving your Mews for an expensive Shiny Trinket to propose with.
All adult colony cats can be befriended, dated, and married! With so many options, it is important that you choose your partner wisely.
Being sociable has plenty of benefits, but one of the best is traveling with a buddy who will have your back! Once you’ve made a good friend, you can request that they follow you, and the two of you can leave town and hang out for a while.
As you spend time together, your bond will strengthen and the two of you will become a more effective pair over time. Your friend will gain Buddy XP any time they pick an herb, scrap with an enemy, or pounce on some prey. With enough Buddy XP, they can level up and become stronger!
With so much to do, you can work up a hunger fast! Every cat needs to eat regularly to stay in peak physical condition.
Lucky for you, the Wildwood is teeming with small creatures that would make a perfect lunch. After a long day of gathering, you’ll want to pick up a juicy rabbit or a tempting squirrel on your way back to town. You can find prey hiding just about anywhere.
Use your acute sense of smell to identify what critters are around, then track their scent until you find them. Crouch and move slowly as you approach so you won’t scare them off. Study your quarry for a few seconds to identify how close you can move before they’ll become alerted and scurry away. The nearer you get, the better your chance of a successful hunt.
Then, summoning all your feline prowess, pounce through the air and use your claws to secure your victory! With some skill, you’ll have a meal waiting for you in the grass. Otherwise, they will run away and you will have missed out.
Dinnertime! A distracted mouse is an easy target.
In Cattails: Wildwood Story, you will encounter dozens of unique types of prey. Mice, voles, shrews, magpies, lizards, turtles, doves, rabbits, toads, weasels, trout, salmon, minnows, starlings, cardinals, blue jays and more all live in the Wildwood region.
Of course, not all animals will appreciate you pouncing on their backs! Some will put up a fight. Certain nasty fiends, like snakes, aren’t afraid of cats like you and will attack on sight.
The element of surprise is important in dealing with such menaces. If you can score a pouncing sneak attack, you’ll be able to deplete much of their health before it comes to blows.
Constant battle is the harsh reality of all feral cats. Cats used to train to prepare themselves for in-fighting between the colonies. However, the Wildwood is home to a new kind of enemy, one that threatens all who walk the land...
Eerie void-like spirits are appearing in great numbers to challenge the intrusion of your new settlement. They take the form of shadow cats with flaming eyes and gloomy claws.
If your people are to be kept safe, you will need to stand firm against the interminable flow of voidling cats that encroach upon your borders. But you will not be alone! Brave cats of your colony will join your side and help to stem the tide.
A skilled skirmisher knows every fighting technique and the best times to employ each. There are three basic types of slash: quick, medium, and heavy. Charge your attacks and launch forward to unleash a devastating strike on your foes!
But where are these evil spirits coming from? Perhaps you can unravel the mystery and put an end to the assault...
There are skills only known to a select few cats who take the time to learn them. Train at the Scratching Post to learn new Active Skills, powerful abilities that take many forms. Mix and match Active Skills to create a distinct build. Upgrade your skills to increase their potency.
Will you live in the dense pine forests, or on a sandy beach? Perhaps a flower-filled river meadow is your preferred environment? Or the mysterious swamps, teeming with willow trees?
Once you have decided, the real work begins! You will need to construct a Den for each cat, including yourself. A Town Square will serve as an excellent centerpiece to your village. You might also want to till a Garden Plot or put up a Task Board for colony members to post jobs that need done.
You will also want to build a new Temple for the Forest Guardian to live in. The Forest Guardian will bless and protect your fledgling settlement and offer you guidance as you unravel the mysteries of the world around you.
Every cat has a den, a dry shelter from the harsh weather outside. A den is a great place to sleep and recover from a long day, as well as the perfect place to safely store all your stuff.
Personalize your den by placing furniture of all kinds throughout. Find your favorite style and get creative!
With the help of Molby, your friendly neighborhood contractor-Mole, you can alter the floorplan of your den. Add rooms and hallways to build your dream home. Mix and match several types of walls and floors.
While most plants grow naturally in the wild, the best quality herbs result from careful nurturing in a controlled environment.
Sow several seeds at a time to reap a large harvest later. With daily attention, your plot will stay healthy and yield high-quality herbs. Keep what you grow for adventuring later, or sell it for a tidy profit!
Below the surface of the Wildwood lies an extensive system of caves and tunnels, filled to the brim with useful ores and precious gems. If you want to claim them for yourself, take heed! They are guarded by angry critters who call the caves their home.
Mine by swiping at boulders with your claws to turn them to rubble. If you’re lucky, you will find rare minerals inside.
Descend deeper by finding the hidden staircases. The lower you go, the more valuable the resources you’ll encounter, but the harder the challenges. Remember to bring some food, because mining will wear you out quickly!
A company of moles has set up shop in the entrance of the caves. They will happily accept your gemstones and minerals and exchange them for desirable items and accessories.
Some levels feature ancient trapped ruins, cold ghost-infested ice lakes, or poisonous vents that shoot up from the ground. Pay attention to your surroundings and pick your course wisely as you descend.
Sadly the $300 backer option is already all taken, but you can still grab the $90 backer option.
also, Cattails is on an 80% off sale. 96% positive rating from reviewers.
