RPG overhaul or difficulty mod.
I've been playing on a new modlist for a week now, after finishing KCD2, and I've just about reached a stable game. I'll post it soon.

If you want to grab something immediately:
HARDCORE22V2 COMPLETE- REALISTIC COMBAT OVERHAUL: https://www.nexusmods.com/cyberpunk2077/mods/12569
Arasaka Mech Health fix for (HARDCORE22V2 COMPLETE- REALISTIC COMBAT OVERHAUL): https://www.nexusmods.com/cyberpunk2077/mods/16998
Enemies of Night City: https://www.nexusmods.com/cyberpunk2077/mods/8467
And their dependencies, in the "Requirements" section.

If you are into "basic needs" immersive stuff you can add:
Dark Future - Urban Survival Gameplay: https://www.nexusmods.com/cyberpunk2077/mods/16300
Dark Future realistic carry capacity: https://www.nexusmods.com/cyberpunk2077/mods/19242
But then you better get the ability to buy stuff from any vendor: https://www.nexusmods.com/cyberpunk2077/mods/2894
And then why not actually watch an animation as you are eating when at restaurants: https://www.nexusmods.com/cyberpunk2077/mods/7322
Once you take the immersion rabbit hole, you are better off going all in, with a bunch of other mods I'll list later.

There isn't much ambiguity about gameplay altering mods because there are not that many big rebalances. Other mods that are interesting but won't be compatible with the above are:
Wannabe Edgerunner - A simple Cyberpsychosis mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/cyberpunk2077/mods/5646 (CDPR practically copied this mod with some changes into their v2.0 but it still exists and makes additions on top of that)
Lifepath Bonuses and Gang-Corp Traits: https://www.nexusmods.com/cyberpunk2077/mods/2217 (I did a v1.6 playthrough with it and it's a great faction overhaul, but it would be incompatible with Enemies of Night City and I wanted to try that one this time)
The Gangs of Night City: https://www.nexusmods.com/cyberpunk2077/mods/7233 (I'm a bit wary of mods that have heavy scripting like adding radiant quests and membership in gangs and such, so if I experiment with this it will be after I'm sure the game is already stable)

If you go the way of mods that add scripted systems and systems-driven gameplay, you might also try They Will Remember, Immersive Fixers, Fighting Gangs Allowed (Reasonable Police), NIGHT CITY ALIVE, and others such as those that add "jobs". The problem with these is that they all have heavy scripting and the more complex, the more likely to be unstable, and the problems might only surface after lots of hours sunk.

In my experience some of the best gameplay changes come from QoL mods, where you install it and you find you can't live without it. The game was absolutely a turd if unmodded pre-2.0, now I can't say if it's all that bad unmodded, but mods certainly have a lot to offer in terms of gameplay improvements.
Good list, I play with a lot of those. But I actually exchanged Enemies of nightcity ( because holy shit is this mod "special" and won't play nice with any mod ) and went with Lifepath bonuses and gang-corp traits + Ped damage mod + Guns Redone V3.0 (Overhauled). Also thought that Enemies of nightcity was a little bit much with the hp bloat. Feels okay with the mods now.

Is there any sort of realistic vehicle physics mod? I ask because that was one of the things that bothered me over time. All the vehicles have an antigravity crash avoidance system. It doesn't feel so bad, but it prevents you from doing tricks and stunts.

It's especially noticeable with motorcycles. You can't do anything crazy with them because they pop upright as if by magic.

The game needs a Carmageddon-style vehicle physics mode.
Authentic Shift, Baby Driver v2.0, Car Modification Shop, Cyber Drift, Cyber Vehicle Overhaul - Version 2.0, Dynamic Downforce, Go Like Hell, Gripped Up, Better Camera Auto 2.1, CoolCam.

Works well together for me.

PC RPG Website of the Year, 2015 Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy Insert Title Here RPG Wokedex Divinity: Original Sin 2 A Beautifully Desolate Campaign Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath
My current modlist, by category. Here is what I mean when I say that when modded Cyberpunk 77 becomes a different, tangibly better game. Not the dream Cyberpunk RPG we were promised, but a better version of itself, it's fair to say.

The essential stuff, frameworks, libraries, needed by other mods. If you have all of these, you can usually install any other mod on top.

Going through my old modlist, I've found only one new bugfix mod that needs installing:
Bugfix said:
Bugfix 03 Slow Firing Rate on Longer Saves Bug Fix-18768-1-0-0-1736082887
Get ready because this is just Bethesda-level: the longer you play, the longer the ingame clock has ran, for some reason, the longer the interval between bullets fired from automatic weapons. Your weapons' rate of fire will decrease the longer you play, and I guess beyond 100 hours this starts being perceptible. And the above mod fixes that.

QoL is a big shopping list, but I think most of these are indispensable:
QoL 01 Better Fast Travel Map-9214-1-0-0-1-170277551
Lets you place waypoints on the fast travel map. I think I don't really need this one because Dark Future disables fast travel.

QoL 06 Street Vendors v2.0.2-2894-2-0-2-17320769103
All those street vendors now actually function as vendors, so I can buy junk food and drink.

QoL 08 Muted Markers-1727-2-3-1-1728134907
Djkovrik makes some of the best QoL mods. This one lets you configure which kinds of loot will show its icon on the screen. Reduces onscreen clutter, improves immersion.

QoL 09 Hide Read Shards-2820-0-3-1660038302
Same author. After reading a shard it will disappear from the world and you won't encounter it anymore, so its icon will not bother you in the game world or minimap like it remains visible otherwise. The shard's text is now in your journal's section, and that's where you need to go to read it.

QoL 10 Limited HUD-2592-2-17-3-1742491738
Same author. Configure which HUD elements will show under what conditions - if you want key hints to be visible only in combat, or minimap when in combat in stealth but not when outside of combat BUT with a gun drawn, you can configure it through the ingame Mods Settings interface.

QoL 12 Custom Map Markers-3819-2-1-4-1706792956
Same author. Lets you place up to 50 custom map markers on the map using one of 16 icons, and saves your custom map markers in your savegames.

QoL 13 Always First Equip-2557-2-0-7-1739383223
Same author. See the badass weapon draw animations more often. It's intelligent enough to only use the first equip animation when drawing a weapon outside of combat.

QoL 14 Appearance Change Unlocker - Character Customization-3850-2--3-2-1734138551
Change your appearance in your home's mirror same as you can do it during character creation. Lets you save your own presets.

QoL 15 everything off-4389-1-0-1650568161
Seeing enemy healthbars is, first, visual clutter, and second, affects my gameplay - I keep staring at the markers go down instead of keeping an eye on the combat. This removes health bars. I'm not sure if this is not also achievable by Limited HUD or in the game's own options in current versions - "NPC Nameplates" is the option's name. It was in my old modlist so I updated and put it in the new list without looking.

QoL 16 Game time tweaks - Longer nights-870-0-2-1617043010
I tend to like longer days in open world games than they usually make them by default.

QoL 18 untrackQuestByRightClick-5177-2-0-1696536920
Change the quest you are tracking via the game's map instead of via the journal. Sometimes it's convenient to be able to see both which quest it is and where it is from your position.

QoL 20 No Intro Videos-533-0-5-1721546294
Needs no comment.

QoL 24 No Camera Auto Centering FPP-2169-0-9-1699952933
The camera returning back to its centered position while driving is a feature only convenient for people with controllers. For us who have a mouse in one hand all the time, it's just annoying to lose control of the camera with no warning.

QoL 26 Real Vendor Names-4941-2-1-0-1701890153
I'm not sure if this one didn't get integrated into the game, but I'm still using it. I'd rather see the name of the vendor than just the type of vendor in the tooltip on the map.

QoL 27 Stash Filters-5298-2-1-2-1725690831
Self-explanatory.

QoL 28 Crouch vignette effect remover 2.0-535-2-0-1695922344
CDPR what were you thinking reducing my visibility artificially when I'm sneaking.

QoL 29 Better Vehicle First Person-2202-1-4-2-1710241650
Since you can't adjust your car's seat as an ingame feature, this mod lets you adjust your camera position manually when driving in first person, so you can see the end of your car's hood, and have a better FoV.

QoL 30 Enhanced Craft-4378-4-0-4-1732869399
Lets you write custom names and choose the skins for the weapons you craft.

QoL 31 Filter Saves by Lifepath and Type-3400-1-5-0-1735257975
Self-explanatory

QoL 34 Immersive First Person-2675-1-5-1-1712513796
You can now hold a key to rotate your view independently of the direction you are going. I don't use that feature much. But it also lets me see my waifu's tits when I look down, which is of course immersive.

QoL 32 Stand Still Please-4714-2-0-0-1695326901
Stops the idle animations playing in the character creation/modification interface.

QoL 35 ImprovedSlide-5533-1-0-1-1695831005
I've never played without it, but then I don't use slide that much.

QoL 38 Quickhack Actions Sorted 1.0.0-16121-1-0-0-1723022150
You can choose to have your quickhacks sorted by ram cost or by name in the scanning interface, for quicker access when you want to chain some quickhacks faster.

QoL 33 JB Third Person Mod V132-669-V132-1734386554
In my experience it's not that cool, your shoulders still look weird, but it's just nice to have in case you want to look at yourself without engaging photomode.

QoL 36 E3 Smart Windows 1.1-7026-1-1-1708008540
Like the new BMWs' windscreens, your home's window now has embedded screen showing you your text messages, news, weather, etc.

QoL 39 Grenade Aim Slow Time-15186-1-0-1717864231
Haven't really used it yet, but looked useful.

QoL 40 Inside The Metro-14945-1-2-0-1738493402
Lets you walk around the train while riding the subway.

QoL 41 Revised Backpack-17642-0-9-8-1737916749
An even better and more detailed interface for your inventory. I haven't had to use it that much, because with the realistic carry capacity, I tend to not have that much in my inventory anyway.

QoL 42 ControlsOverhaul_redscript-3060-2-20-7-1735493486
It's a good starting point for setting up custom controls, and also the script for holding R to holster like in Fallout was nice.

QoL 43 Immersive Food Vendors-7322-1-1-1h-1741484708
Animations while eating, but only at vanilla food vendors, not at those created by the Street Vendors mod.

QoL 44 Kinda Realistic Flashlight-12559-3-2-1727288455
Since "Simple Flashlight" is outdated and not supported, this was the best other flashlight mod I found. You have to have a weapon drawn, and the lightsource is linked to your weapon. The light itself is adjustable through options - color, size, intensity, distance, even the switch on/off sounds.

QoL 45 Better Armor Tooltips-9706-1-0-1696683222
Recalculates the armor values shown in tooltips so the final value in the tooltip is more meaningful for the player.

Audio:
Audio 01 CustomRingtones-20484-1-1-1742839207 - Put any mp3 file as a ringing tone, and set up different ringing tones for different game characters calling you.
Audio 03 Cosmopolitan Night city - Lite edition-5909-2-4-1737328424 - Mixes VO from various language setting so that characters speak in various languages, like Takemura always in Japanese, etc. Subtitles will still be in the language you understand.

Graphics:

Graphics 01 LOD Patch - All 5x-3631-4-0-1663897438
Graphics 01 Realistic Traffic Density v.2.0-6457-2-0-1681546244 -- I forgot to mention this one earlier. You can really have crowded streets, but it gradually worsens the pathfinding, in those casese where you get a big chunk of NPC cars spawned right in front of you, depending on your viewing distance settings
Graphics 02 Just shiny hair change-237-1-02-1608145039 -- hairs less shiny in sunlight
Graphics 05 Better Finer Rain V6.0-2001-6-0-1681638936
Graphics 08 Next-Gen Crowd Distance LOD and Density 2024-4842-3-00-1708038787
Graphics 09 Improved Vegetation LODs-3627-3-2-1737500796 -- less cacti and stones pop-in when outside the city.
Graphics 11 Extended and Improved Headlights 1.1-5013-1-1-1661016001 -- This is a godsend, I had to lower the strength of headlights to 10% of the vanilla value to make them look normal.
Graphics 12 PURE CET 2.1.9.1-4605-2-1-9-1-1741867214 -- You can remove underwear when in inventory screen or character creation screen.
Graphics 16 Vanilla Plus VE-No green tint-6578-2-1-1695772920
Graphics 18 Disappearing NPC and Vehicle Fix-19628-1-0-1739040947

Gameplay, the other more important category:
Gameplay 06 Simple XP Multiplier-3136-2-4-1701904670
Essential mod. It's not all that "simple", you can configure the multiplier of level XP, Street Cred, and skill XP, so you don't get halfway to the level cap by just completing all of Northside's gigs/NCPD/psychos/quests.

Gameplay 08 Challenging Breach Minigame-3661-1-3-3-1726342744
The most important feature for me is that I can have the timer starting immediately, not allowing me to freely analyze the symbols. Can also reduce the time for breach for added difficulty.

Gameplay 15 Unequip Mods Mod-2358-2-0-1695490034
Middle-click removes mods.

Gameplay 16 Only Smartweapon Crosshairs 1.41-5434-1-41-1708030896
For immersion

Gameplay 17 Missing Persons - Fixers Hidden Gems-5058-2-2-2-1707356949
I tried some of those and had fun with them when playing at a slow pace in v1.6.

Gameplay 21 Silent Silencers and Throwing Knives-4070-1-6-2-1702034578
Silencers are not silent like in movies, but what's the point of having a silencer if all enemies jump you at your first shot? This lets you configure the distance your silenced weapon makes sound

Gameplay 23 Stealthrunner-7616-1-8-0-1736023880
Systems-driven. Extra objectives and extra rewards for being sneaky and non-lethal.

Gameplay 24 Ranged Attack Speed Damage Fix-4997-2-0-1663093096
This should do the same as the mod in the Bugfix category. I'm not sure why I have both really.

Gameplay 26 Enemies of Night City-8467-PL-Beta-1-8-8-Hotfix-1720272238
One of the big overhauls

Gameplay 35 Set Bonuses-8103-2-1u3-1732808564
Slight bonuses if wearing some sets of clothing. We no longer have the amazing "Street Style" mod which was giving different bonuses for dressing in specific styles like Neomilitarism, Kitsch, etc. One guy working on some other mod is also planning on redoing that work to make styles functional again, but I forget which was the mod.

Gameplay 36 Dark Future-16300-1-3-3-for-2-21-1741554927
Models stress, sleep, thirst and hunger. I like it because it keeps me from getting too carried away cleaning up the map. It can be configured so the needs are not too intrusive for your taste.

Gameplay 37 Better Netrunning-2302-0-7-1714002370
This looks great as design, but doesn't seem to be working at the time of writing.

Gameplay 38 MixedCyberwareStore.zip-10849-1-2-2-1724316701
This shop mod lets you buy cyberdecks and cyberware items (themselves available as separate mods) through a shop website in your ingame computer.

Gameplay 39 HARDCORE22_V2_P1-12569-1-1C-1706840640
Gameplay 40 Arasaka Mech Health fix-16998-1-0-1728180109
Rebalance of damage, health and armor values

Gameplay 41 Hardcore Netrunning-17136-1-1-1-1731732610
Rebalance of some hacking costs. Its descriptions recommends a mod called "Scanning Ram Drain" which seems very interesting.

Gameplay 42 Rogue's Fee-8096-1-1-1696015056
Higher money barrier to progress the main quest.

Gameplay 43 Dark Future realistic carry capacity-19242-0-1-1737498814
To restrain me from grinding money off of looted stuff and getting rich too soon.

Gameplay 44 With Phantom Liberty-17110-1-1-1728935911
Ripper docs are specialized each in various kinds of cyberware.

Gameplay 46 NCPDPPE V2.6 FUGITIVE EDITION-9863-2-6-1737189809
A comprehensive rework of the police and wanted system but I have yet to test it

Gameplay 48 Fighting Gangs Allowed - Reasonable Police-19189-1-0-1737237101
So police won't attack you after you've helped them out against gangs.

Gameplay 49 ChamberedBullet-9194-1-0-1695188415
Reloading on a non-empty ammo clip will give you one bullet beyond the maximum, i.e. keep one loaded in the chamber plus a full clip. Genius stuff.

Gameplay JWL 06 Manual Reload-2804-1-2-4-0-1664563314
I like having to press the reload button when I run out, instead of the game auto-reloading the weapon.

Gameplay 50 Existing Consumable-10257-v0-21b-1699662333
Grenades and health items are no longer on a cooldown, you actually have to stock up before a mission, and they are expensive too.

Stores, though I haven't enable all I have, because the amount of clothes and shoes mods is insane:
Store 01 Base Virtual Atelier-2987-1-2-10-1739300533
Store 05 HystAtelierStore-6015-1-19-1742414317
Store 16 Virtual Atelier - Browser Extension-2987-1-2-9-1739258264
Store 17 Zenitex Atelier-10090-3-7-1742736603 -- this one is worth a special mention, because it houses a very neat-looking set of combat accessories, each of them existing in 20(!) color variants, each item can be applied individually, and only on one arm/hand/leg/foot if you so wish, through the game's wardrobe system:
As 3D assets go, these are great looking, and the even cooler thing is that they are not just for looks but have little armor modifiers attached. Given that they also fit a variety of custom body meshes (themselves mods), the amount of work put into these is quite impressive.

Custom music:
Music 06 FLASH FM -- This is mine, not on the Nexus because of copyright obviously. I made my own radiostation that works with the RadioExt mod. It's atmospheric songs from (mostly) the 1980s, named it Flash FM in favor of GTA Vice City's radio station. Now I can ride through Night City at night while listening to "Here comes the rain again" by Eurythmics. I can shoot gangers, simping for Panam while listening to "Heart of Chrome" by KISS. The latest top moment was when I was just recovering under the shower after my first encounter with Johnny after The Heist, and "Blinded by Science" by Foreigner came on the radio in my flat.

Cars and driving:
Vehicles 01 Base Cyber Vehicle Overhaul - Version 2.0-3016-2-0-1-1732050328
Basis for other mods

Vehicles 03 Virtual Car Dealer-4454-2-2-4-1738593127
An ingame internet shop that lets you buy vehicles you can see in the city driven by NPCs, but not available from the Dinovic fixer.

Vehicles 04 Car Modification Shop-4034-2-1-2-0-1709502984
Vehicles 05 AMM Car Modification Shop-4446-0-1-2-1665632955
A car shop where you can upgrade your cars, GTAV-style but without all the production values. The AMM Car Modification Shop adds a nice 3D asset of a garage you can actually enter.

Vehicles 06 Better Bike Overhaul-7384-2-03-1699061377
Indispensable if you are going to be riding bikes.

Vehicles 07 Drive Carefully Mod Settings-10032-2-0-0-1697876886
Will charge you a nice sum for crashing into others, dependent on the damage.

Vehicles 08 Immersive Driving 2.13-b - Input Loader-5293-2-13-b-1731795005
Hey, Gargaune this claims to have cruise control! I've never tried it actually, but the shift/ctrl as means to quickly ramp up/drop the RPMs felt nice.

Vehicles 09 1.6 Neon Rims Color Control-4204-1-2-2-1663964886
Change the color and strength of your bike's neon rim lights. Keep the lights on when you get off the bike.

Vehicles 10 Corpo Pack-4539-1-0-0-1653158149
Vehicles 11 Virtual Car Dealer - Car Pack 2-4625-1-9-0-1675361670
Vehicles 11 Virtual Car Dealer - Car Pack-4625-1-8-2-1674936277
Vehicles 12 Gangs Pack-4509-1-1-0-1656843110
These mods fill up the Virtual Car Dealer shop with cars you can buy

Vehicles 13 Virtual Car Dealer - Browser Extension-4454-2-2-5-1739258320
To have the car dealer as a separate icon in your ingame internet browser instead reaching it through the Atelier tab, I think.

Vehicles 14 KRNLNIK C63S AMG-9075-1-3-0-1701632686
My son liked the white Mercedes, so this mod ended up installed...

Vehicles 15 TrunkStash - CarTrunkOnly-9158-1-2-1704135378
Have access to your stash from your car's open trunk, why not?

Vehicles 16 VehicleSmartWeapon-20314-1-0-0-1741962800
Your vehicle's guns automatically target enemies now, like you would expect them to in a Cyberpunk game. No need to aim while driving. Just press fire.

Vehicles 17 NPC Vehicle Reactions Fixed-19530-1-0-0-1738530015
Vanilla NPC sometimes jump into your car instead of out of its way.

Vehicles 20 VEHICLE REPAIR COST V1.1-11432-1-1-1717254027
In addition to raising the repair cost, this will make sure your car doesn't despawn if you walk away.

Vehicles 21 CallList-VehicleDetailsOverlay-CET-18920-1-6-1736740278
When calling your car, this mod will show data about it taken from the game's data, not whatever the designer typed as your car's properties.

Traffic always really slow too. Even in GTA V, everyone else so slow on the freeways.
Yeah and the road lanes are a bit larger than IRL and all npcs drive their cars apart enough to allow a confortable space for us the player to conveniently overtake traffic
Seriously it's almost like it was done on purpose, so unrealistic 2/10

Traffic always really slow too. Even in GTA V, everyone else so slow on the freeways.
Yeah and the road lanes are a bit larger than IRL and all npcs drive their cars apart enough to allow a confortable space for us the player to conveniently overtake traffic
Seriously it's almost like it was done on purpose, so unrealistic 2/10
It's lame, dude. All of what you said. Makes for lame chases. The chase I described with reference to Bullitt is ideal. A good chase isn't actually about going super fast all the time; it's about maneuvering traffic, pedestrians and buildings. Some of the best chase scenes of all time have the heroes driving more carefully. GTA and presumably CP 2077 don't even have good crashes. Couldn't have good crashes because the cars never go fast enough even on freeways.

Oh, and the streets of GTA aren't empty so much for gameplay, but more due to demanding photorealism. We were able to add much more traffic with the slider in Crazy Taxi.

Almost everyone has tattoos. Why couldn't it be more what people in the 1980s and '90s imagined a cyberpunk future as, rather than advanced version of our current degenerate state?

Tattoos were super cool in the 1980s and 1990s - not as many people had them, and it was still a bit daring, redolent of raves and festivals and that kind of thing.

I don't personally like tattoos but that's beside the point, there's a legitimate discussion on how CDPR's vision of a cyberpunk future is more rooted in our present day than the 80s expectations that spawned the genre. It certainly made the fiction more pertinent (aesthetically if not thematically), but I kinda also feel like it made things less... cool? When Gibson painted Molly's picture in Neuromancer, he likened her body to a jet fighter's fuselage, a metaphor that's stuck with me to this day, not a downtown fence caked in graffiti. I recognise CBP2077's take is fair game for the genre, but it's not my preferred incarnation.

CP2077's vision is pretty true to the "high tech+low life" characterization of the genre, with the "low life" aspect being mainly what the "punk" in the term referred to (obvs. via punk music from the 80s and the varied looks and whacky outfits young ppl had in those days). The direct influence there was from punk in the UK via the comic 2000AD and Judge Dredd in particular, which I think probably influenced the more highfalutin' proponents of the genre more than they'd care to admit (a lot of Dredd's policing was done against young 80s-punky antinomians and anti-corporates who also knew their hi tech).

But I agree there were slicker versions of it. Walter Jon Williams' Hardwired (the other big most influential novel in the genre other than Neuromancer) was also quite slick too, and leaned more towards the "high tech," with the "punk" element (the anti-corpo) element being more like smooth shady operators rather than rag-tag script kiddies with spikey jackets, flourescent hairdos and tattoos.

Does anyone else just flat out dislike Johnny Silverhand? Not even in a "cool asshole you love to hate" kind of way, just as a character, he's not a good addition. I don't care about some rock star who I'm supposed to think is badass, or who's an awesome monomaniacal anticapitalist terrorist. He's just so flat and one-dimensional, and I have nothing against Keanu Reeves as a human being but man, the performance here is not great, like he's looking at the lines for the first time, just read them Mr. Reeves, record the first take, good enough this guy is way too expensive and we have a lot of shit to get through. Most of all, the game does a decent job of letting me decide who V is and what his story feels like, but everything with Silverhand seems like it'd be exactly the same for every playthrough. All these long sections of going into his mind to see his history, it's all so predictable and on rails, I just want to get back to being me doing things I think are actually cool and talking to all the other NPCs, most of whom are deeper and more believable.
it's because his character was supposed to be balanced by Morgan Blackhand who is SOMEHOW NOT IN THE FUCKING GAME

same performance as in john wick movies, he has a hard time talking or something; has to wind up before speaking each sentence, gets worse as he ages

All the scripted stuff before Keannu Reeve's first appearance and the car chase right after were terrible. "Press W to crawl forward," etc. Often only able to perform the one animation. Why would you give me the option to punch the mirror after the friend's death like I personally knew him? Cutscenes of older games were so much more entertaining and effective that it's not even funny. Yes, I would have rather watched my character's whole defeat as a third person cutscene. No gameplay was happening anyway.

If I made one of these games, I would also completely freeze the scene whenever the player is given the opportunity to choose a response, so that there's not that awkward, unrealistic silent pause.

BTW, Cyberpunk 2077 + DLC is also on sale. Is it worth it too? I should ask it in the appropriate thread but there's probably a higher number of Immersive Sim fans here, and I would prefer your opinions. Something that have put me off of it so far is it's edgy and colorful aesthetics, as if the streets are Paris fashion week catwalks for people to show their cool clothes and chrome. I like my cyberpunk darker and grittier like in Blade Runner, Deus Ex and Shadowrun (SNES & Genesis). Should I endure the aesthetics?
If you don't like the aesthetic, you might be in for a bad time here.

I think C2077 is remarkably good, the stink of its disastrous launch finally dissipated after the 2.0 release.

It's not anything like an imsim. It's a shooter RPG where your build choices amount to what kind of gun (or sword) you want to be good with. No air vents, and thank god because I fucking hate air vents. Level design is sometimes linear and sometimes much more open. The stealth mechanics are good, or at least good enough, and playing it Thief style is rewarding.

The vibe is really what makes me like the game. Not just the visuals, but the mood of a big crime city and your place in it. The streets look colorful to the eye - the truth is everything is shades of grey. More than anything this game to me has the feel of Bloodlines. Yep, I said it. A city where everyone has their own agenda, some characters are memorable, and you get caught up in all this crazy shit you usually can't control. Your hand does fall on a lever sometimes and once in a while you can even choose to pull it or not. Aside from gunning down a million nameless thugs, you have substantial power of death or life over major NPCs in a few situations where it feels like it matters. One early mission has you infiltrate a fortress of heavily armed antagonistic cyborgs, and if you want you can actually team up with the cyborgs against a rival ambush, which felt great. Of course the story is mostly on rails (also like Bloodlines).

The worst part for me is the main NPC is a very boring bad character and it seems like there are a lot of sections where you are forced to play through his boring story, using his one cool gun and listening to his cool voice act cool. The whole plot about you being handcuffed to him, the main plot of the game, is itself a good idea and it's very motivating, but the actual moment to moment with this character is simply a drag, or at least I found it to be.

I got about 60 hours in which felt like about halfway through the main story. Actually I have no idea how close I am; although every new story beat makes sense, it kind of feels like there is never any end in sight which may be why I drifted away from the game. I would like to finish it someday and still have it installed but there's only so much Johnny Silverhand I can take. I did buy the DLC but never touched it so far so I can't comment on that.

I never touched the 2077 DLC either because I can't stand when the DLC takes place during the game when most people have already finished it by the time it comes out. Shattered Space annoyed me for the same reason, I literally waited for it to be released before beating Starfield. 2077 took me 100 hours to 100%, they expect me to roll up a new character to play a 10 hour DLC?

Oh, and in a cutscene with dialogue options the Asian man sitting behind the framed Japanese senior bodyguard in the restaurant the morning after the protagonist's defeat wouldn't be taking the same bite out of his hamburger for fifteen minutes.

It's lame, dude.
This isn't NFS Most Wanted, chases aren't a core focus of CP2077 gameplay
And even in Most Wanted the traffic moves at a slow speed relative to the player and comparatively to CP2077 that NFS game has significantly less traffic on the road (and no, it wasn't hardware limitation, but intentional game design)
he cars never go fast enough even on freeways.
The game was already a clusterfuck on release, because sandbox games of this scale and complexity are a technical nightmare
And the faster the movement of an object, the more troublesome said object becomes to deal with at an engine level

I don't personally like tattoos but that's beside the point, there's a legitimate discussion on how CDPR's vision of a cyberpunk future is more rooted in our present day than the 80s expectations that spawned the genre. It certainly made the fiction more pertinent (aesthetically if not thematically), but I kinda also feel like it made things less... cool? Imo Cyberpunk as a genre is fundamentally about the present day concerns, not actually about the future

I say this because, every notable cyberpunk work I've read/watched/played always seemed to be mainly reflecting the "zeitgeist" the work in question was released, but aggravated to extremes
Additionally the aesthetics of those works, were in my observations also mainly contemporary (for the time) futurism, rather than retro-futurism

Watched Johnny Mnemonic for the first time last year, that movie is undeniably 90's in every aspect of it's worldbuilding
Firmly believe Deus Ex and MGS2 could've never been made outside the Y2K
And as everyone knows, the reason why Japanese companies were so prominent in 80s cyberpunk works, was because there was a real concern in the US about the strength of Japan's economy

Also cool tech I guess...

PON PON SHIT 4 LYFE
That song means something like "I want you to fuck me every day" but I don't remember who translated it and where.

I found an explanation on Reddit that says "pon pon" is like "plap plap" and the rest of it is, yes, "plap plap me every day".
