Site was down all evening for me. When trying to access the dex on my phone I get some "cannot find appletouch.png" etc thingy, I don't think it has something to do with "apple" since I don't have an iphone? Will store a screenshot when I get it next time.

Similar problems to zdzisui, didn't have the debugging information to trace it, sorry.

Blaming it on the US election makes me feel better.

(also, those ddos pages et al don't work in lynx/elinks due to javascript, so its true, codex doesn't scale (down) to your level)

Is it just me or is the site... much faster now? Load times are suddenly non-existant after this place was down yesterday. Maybe it's just temporary, maybe it's from less traffic at the current hour or maybe it's from Romney losing like the bitch he is last night. Well, hope it stays this way.

A bit of everything, plus some work done on the server yesterday and my extending the CDN to additional sites on the server. Hopefully extending it further will help even more.

I'm getting those 5 seconds checks all the time, and now I'm getting those errors every few times I click something. I hope it's resolved soon because it's extremely tiring to browse dex now.

I only turned on the DDoS check again a minute ago when it hasn't been on for around 18 hours prior, so you didn't see it in that duration.

Also, every check is good for quite a long time unless you've got some IP shifting or something odd going on.

And FYI, the DDoS protection is on again because, yes, we're experiencing another DDoS. Given the alternative is to have the server either down or so heavily overloaded as to be unresponsive, I think this is the better option.

It's not possible to make this check run in the background, slowly draining resources over a longer time and invisible to the user?

No, the whole point is that it denies access to all the botnet zombies, spammers and all other malicious users before they can even access the site. That's by far the most effective means of DDoS mitigation as it doesn't take any of our (already spread thin) server resources to handle. There's still a lot of room for improvement, but it's a good start.
