Codex 2012
Recently it has come to my attention that many codexers use CHEATS, usually in the form of CHEATengine to give themselves an edge in games. Using it to gain max stats or bypass certain sections and so on, and in general destroying the careful technical pacing and design that goes into these games. Using CHEATS completely invalidates any opinion you might have on the respective game.

I used CheatEngine only once. I accidentally allocated a point to the wrong stat. So, rather than starting a new game and playing the same three hours over again, I used CheatEngine to take the point off of that stat and added it to the stat I meant to put it on.

In 20+ year old games, I would agree with you with regards to the careful technical pacing and design. Games these days? Careful design?

Good games are very rare so cheating and wasting rare experience is a crime.

But it's only true for the first 10 or so playthroughs.

Used to when I was younger. These days I'm skilled enough to not want to use them anymore.

I don't modify stats, but from time to time I have used cheat engine to give myself more materials in games with grindy crafting.

Also used it in games with in app purchases like Knights of Pen and Paper and Dead Space 3.

Who actually wasted their life playing through Underrail without the help of Cheatengine speedhacks. There's no point sitting through game developer mistakes and calling it having a good time, some games just have terrible pacing.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Hey man the walking speed in this game is kinda slow so i use CHEATengine to go supersonic speed btw this game's pacing is way off and it's too short what a shit game

Some games require Cheat Engine's speedhack to be comfortably playable without you feeling like you're wasting your time staring at your character walking slow as fuck.

Underrail, the Eschalon games, Neverwinter Nights, to just mention a few examples.

I never cheat at video games, but I am not above using exploits and mods to make stuff easier and/or more fun for me. I modded encumbrance out of Witcher 2, so I did not have to return to town every 15 minutes, while still feeding my inner hoarder. In Witcher 3, I used a mod to disable experience scaling, because that shit can GTFO. And I went through Baldur's Gate 1 many times with the same character only because I could give him the grimoire stat boosts over and over again, so that he actually became a GOD in BG2.

Gothic II comes to mind, after a bit I realized there is this dude selling transformation scrolls that are somewhat OP for chapter 1, and I rampaged through the map. Easy XP I guess

I once cheated in BG2. It was with the Tactics Mod with all the challenges turned to eleven and I couldn't get out of the first dungeon. Sucked all the fun out of it so won't do that again.

I sometimes use cheats in games like nue fallouts when you don't have car and there is too many loot. Returning fifteen times from battle-field to your room and merchants have no sense beyond wasting 15 minutes of your time and risking this PoShitware to crash again. Same way I am glad I don't need to make shit and take piss in games. So Yes I type TGM after clearing cave/bunker/House and combine things and then sell them. Never had the same problem in Old Fallouts cause of Car/Sulik and more sensible itemization. Btw this is why I do think ME2 is superior to first part, no longer my ultra duper N-7 gear from the start is total junk, you just win upgrades from exploration and quests and apply them to your old gear. Which means I could finish entire game using my favorite armor and LMG. Using exploits is smart thing provided you found them yourself, after all cemeteries are full of people who fought fair.

I guess it's a matter of prespective for some, but I don't think so.
