yeah I think Carlsen would have had more problems with Caruana than he will have with Karjakin

Chuky is a true chess bro. It's too bad he loses himself in all the variations and fucks up royally in critical moments.

First game was a Trumpovsky, it's possible that no 1.e4 will even be seen.

Wow, you prognose no 1.e4? Is it really so certain?

I might be really hung up over Carlsen v. Anand's Berlin supremacy, but would no 1.e4 really mean that the opening just lends itself way too much to unpleasant, drawy endings at this current high level?

How likely is 1.c4 or quick fianchetto options?

I wouldn't put it past Carlsen that he chose the Trompovsky as a troll move in light of the Trump election. He understands any position and generally tends to avoid deeply analyzed lines.

Let's hope it won't become a snoozefest again. If there aren't any ambitious lines from the white player, this WCM will turn into a boring slog.

But he has to comment on a fucking symetrical position... MC could go for the scot or even ponziani, these are unclear openings with lots of potential. Instead we get this ultra-solid drawish crap.

PS: Carlsen showing why he is the best player at the moment. Two small inaccuracies and he ekes out a comfortable advantage in the endgame. His mastery of piece placement is just too good.

Tuned out early yesterday because it was a boring Berlin heading for a draw, somehow the game took 7 hours and Carlsen missed a win.

And the challenger is cracking under the pressure after only 3 games. Bxc4 is just bad. Even myself with 2200 ELO can tell. Now it is just a matter of Carlsen applying a generous white-squared massage and convert this into a won position.

It's a bit sad. He is clearly the better player, but doesn't show the total precision we got used to in the endgame. I wonder for how long Karjakin will withstand the pressure, though.

Was Magnus doing a Joachim Löw in the players' lounge, when he didn't realize he was being filmed?

Also, clear win to Karjakin in the press conference.
