Can anyone speak to 5.0.0's stability / playability compared to the latest standard edition of Co8? I'd really like to play with as many bug fixes, but with as little new content as possible. I read that 3.0.4 and 5.0.5 w/ Less New Content Patch were the best versions, but I can't find those files anywhere online.

You can find the 5.0.0 version here: https://www.moddb.com/mods/circle-of-eight-modpack/downloads/circle-of-eight-modpack-500

And version 5.5.0 here: https://www.moddb.com/mods/circle-of-eight-modpack/downloads/circle-of-eight-modpack-550-beta

Thanks! I appreciate it. I guess 3.04 is lost to the sands of time.

It's a shame Tim Cain doesn't use some of his free time to polish up his games.

Nope, I found it here burried in a 15 year old FTP database: http://files.co8.org/mods/TFE-X Modules/

Also found the modified 5.0.5 you were looking for in the first place here (along with the Less New Content Patch): http://files.co8.org/mods/Less-New-Content-Patch/

I'd honestly rather use Co8 5.0.0 from the FTP server rather than from ModDB

Don't forget to use the non-GOG version of the base game: https://archive.org/details/toee.-7z

GOG version comes patched with non-official content
GOG versions are usually garbage—the vast majority of them are impossible to run on original hardware, for instance. So much for "preservation"...
who said anything about preservation? this is what gog has to say about old games:

Even if the game is older than you are, we test it thoroughly, fix all the bugs, and apply patches so it runs flawlessly on your next-gen PC and on modern OSs.

I do :smug:

They could choose to include a dump of the original, intact original media *as well*, but they choose not to. They're not my friends. Similar story when they start selling "enhanced versions" and basically take out the original version from circulation...

this is what gog has to say about old games:
Yeah, and they don't even have the balls to configure DOS games for the MT-32 that sound best with it because they're afraid of Roland... Many of their DOS games are badly configured in general.

yeah they are not about preservation but making money off old games. I think what you are confusing that with is their idea that you own your games and they are not stored on steam’s server. So if ever a zombie apocalypse happens you can have the installers on your hard drive fueled by a generator running on human feces or something.

for true preservation we have to look to piracy sadly.

Well, if you already paid for the game before, either through GOG or when it was released, or through any other service really, I would argue that it is not really piracy. On the topic of preservation, Steam particularly annoys me in this aspect because you don't have any way to set the specific version of a game that you want; and many of them are probably lost forever. GOG at least seems to store the original version and allow you to download the patches in steps; though I am not sure they do it for every game.

By the way did CO8 add to the game in the various versions, is there a quick rundown?

Or have physical discs in your possesion from back in the day like a G
you linked to a piracy site in this very thread dumbass

You personally owning physical disks is not what preservation means. It means making it accessible for future generations and “preserving” the works in time.

If you keep retard rating me without knowing what the fuck you are talking about, as per usual, you are going on my ignore list, because I have yet to see good content from you besides funny bum jokes.

edit: welcome to the retard list.

Does Temple+ support 4K or windowed display yet?

Also what was the last Co8 not to introduce any new "art"?
