Could someone link me to this information on cooldowns? I just want to know how bad it is.

J_C You're going to look back at all of this in a year or so and feel a bit ridiculous.

(not saying the game will be horrible, mind you)

COOLDOWNS CONFIRMED

Time to rage

@David Holmin What we are moving forward with right now is a system that does not require a pure round system. In the IE games, each person was running their own six second round and spells were based on whether they were memorzied. How we look at it, rather than going with a memorization system for spells, in particular, we can use a cool down system. It's a similar balancing system without requireing the whole resting for spells. As for ablities being on that timer, D&D also had certain abilities that could only be used a certain number of times per day - again we want to mimic that with a cool down system.

Nah, I 'm ok with that. :D That said, I might have gone overboard a little in the last past hours.

Which confirms that the spell system and most likely combat generally will suck. Cooldowns boil down to "when a cooldown has expired, click the button!",. Great way of recreating the tactical combat of IWD.

Yeah, a little. Listen, this is not the time to be defensive about this game.

If by raging voicing our displeasure in an intelligible and reasonable manner, we have a chance to steer this game in a better direction, then that's what we're obligated to do. There won't be another chance.

I disagree. Dragon Age certainly proves you wrong (you can't just click an ability whenever it's off cooldown, because you don't have resources for that).

It does, however, suck massive cock compared to other systems. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU- OBSIDIAN I BELIEVED IN YOU :rage:

Oh for fuck's sake, this just keeps getting worse and worse. The Codex will scale to your level in Project Eternity:

http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/60883-level-scaling-confirmed/

Actually, we've known for a while now that the game would have some form of level scaling.

Somehow the Codex didn't rage too much over it.

Sounds like DA2. Mages have a default action - whirling and shooting their staffs - except now with modal abilities (+10% damage!!)

Well, the forum post linked there was referring to using a sling like in the IE games.

Cooldowns... I am a race traitor.

I haven't been to the Obsidian forums, but I actually managed to get my voice heard at Kickstarter earlier. I provided some arguments against cooldowns, some others joined in, and Feargus said he'd mailed our quotes to Tim, Chris and Josh. Hopefully they will have a good discussion.

False. You have all the mana potions you'll ever need. Hundreds of them.

Lyrium potions are on cooldowns and not in any way sufficient for you to keep spamming ALL spells whenever they're off cooldown. This is what you literally stated, and it is false.

No. Spamming is completely an option. It is just spamming with time lag.

Sigh, you are right. It is our duty to try it. Although some of the guys forgot the intelligible part of the reasoning.

Yes, now is the time to be vocal, before it's too late.

So far everything I've heard about the combat/general gameplay sounds like the worst kind of tedium. Hopefully the story and world-building make up for it.

I'm mostly a lurker who hasn't posted in months so it's likely no one gives a fuck, but count me among those not impressed with the idea enough to pony up more cash here rather than up my normal kickstarter backing. I like the idea of a decline squad of some sort but the names, saddle and other such concepts just don't make me laugh or smirk or whatever else.

I'd rather see it be more 4th-wall breaking and hidden, perhaps a "Decline Squad" who are passing through the game checking it for decline. They could mention previous games which have failed to make the cut and had to be eliminated, using clever word-plays for games like Dragon Age or Alpha Brotocol. You could help influence the Decline Squad's opinion of PE through dialog choices and get rewarded accordingly for which decision you influence ("you're right, this game is decline, here is the sword of decline, etc.).

Again false. Every different lyrium potion has a separate cooldown (which are very short anyway), even just cycling through 2 different potion-kinds is enough to spam your spells non-stop. A factual empiricly proven fact. What I stated is 100% literally true, you're the one who's wrong.
