all suggestions are welcome <( ' '<)

let's make this list... list-y! (and yes I do plan on including DOS-era turn-based dungeon crawlers eventually)

well once i reach around 50-75 games listed i'll PM crooked bee about pinning it. there are still literally dozens and dozens of turn-based crawlers from the DOS-era, and the japanese PC era (PC-98/FM-7/FM Towns/PC-Engine CD/etc) waiting to be posted along with all of the independent crawlers like for example devil whiskey and Sanctuary.

plus android / iOS games like Sorcerer which I'm gonna have to depend on fellow codexers to provide links to since I don't own mobile devices.

as for the wizardry thread that'll be kept alive as long as starfish, experience inc., 59 studio, suzak, genterprise, ZeroDiv and success continue producing games. AFAIK none of those studios are in financial trouble so...

Add Lords of Xulima.

Also thanks for the awesome threads man. Thanks to this and your Wizardry clones thread I'll always know where to look when I run out of games to play.

Also since it contains both western and jap games shouldn't this thread be in GRPG?

unfortunately for some reason my brofisting abilities were revoked because i dug up old Blobber threads asking for recommendations for blobbers to play in GRPG and I pasted the list of available blobbers found in this thread.

it hurts a little, i won't lie; but anyway from now on i'll simply post "Brofist!" and tag the Codexer.

I don't think it's just you. Everyone's brofisting abilities are gone for now. We can now give parrot-fists, however

Why so few Might&Magic-s? I to V are all TB blobbers, VI to VIII are TB/RT hybrids.
Also, as a gift from the obscure indies thread I'm giving you Gates of Skeldal. It's a Czech TB blobber in an open world. The fan English translation is a bit half-assed (dialogs and spell descriptions are fine, journal entries are google-translated, item descriptions and parts of interface remain in Czech), but the game is pretty good. The devs are currently making a new TB blobber, Seven Mages, with some rather innovative mechanics (e.g. the ability to split your party both in and out of combat), it releases on tablets in March IIRC, and on PC somewhat later.

simple answer: not enough time: don't worry, they're all going to be included. my goal is to compile a list of every single TURN-BASED dungeon crawler, although they DO NOT need to be party-based. No real-time 'crawlers whatsoever. I realize this goal might not be feasible so the secondary (more realistic) goal is to reach 200 listed games (because everyone else always stops at 100).

i'm working on adding every known TB crawler and at the same time i'm constantly Googling for new, and old/new obscure games (like the PC game Sanctuary: Black Edition for example, which was an insanely lucky find. fantastic game).

as always suggestions are super appreciated my friend.

edit: thanks for letting me know about the MM 6-9 hybrid combat system. (i've actually never played a MM game. tee-hee). still, if Wiz 8's clusterfuck of a system can pass for TB then i guess i'll include those MM games for completions' sake. at the very least they DEFINITELY fulfill the criteria of dungeon crawler... right?

example of games I'm not interested in listing: chocobo's mysterious dungeon / brandish / shiren the wanderer. all fantastic games, and all true 'crawlers, but not TB.

and thanks for the heads up on Gates of Skeldal though I already have it in a draft post (i cobbled it from the 100 crawlers list from dungeoncrawlers dot com). there's a really nice German wiz-clone (and i mean wiz-CLONE) i just found going through some CRPG Addict posts, forget the name.

seven mages looks tight btw. man, once again: thanks for these. i wish more people were as helpful! also I wish multiple people could edit a thread. It would be awesome if we could ALL contribute to this thread and insert entries.

Hm, Shiren the Wanderer and Chocobos Dungeon are definitely turn-based. Though if you add those you might as well add every Roguelike under the sun. I guess they also might not count because movement is simultaneous?

Brandish is definitely real time though.

I'll mention a few other mobile crawlers as well when it's not 1 o'clock in the morning. There's the gba port of eye of the beholder for instance, which actually made the game turn-based a la gold box.

And if we're talking about turn based crawlers we shouldn't forget the Gold Box games either.

yeah i think i'll stickwith TB "traditional" crawlers, although they don't HAVE to be party based. i just looked at the list of "mystery dungeon" games and good lord fuck that. someone else can make that thread if they want to hehe.

tomorrow i'll every single one of the ones mentioned tonight; plus round out the game information with more pictures / soundtrack / manual / etc.

btw, i was looking at images of the maps in mordor: depths~ and.... WOW. just. WOW. they look like somebody took the maze-editor software and started playing snake except with godmode on.

It's crazy how all these crawlers wound up on the DS of all systems.

dark spire was actually made by Success, the development studio who did both of the remakes in the PS1/Saturn disc New Age Of Llylgamyn: they did the wiz 4 "classic version" (no changes) remake and they did their own "arranged version" (the one where you can control the summoned monsters and the game is even HARDER than the regular version) although unfortunately the arranged version is only playable in moon-runes; and of course they did the wiz 5 remake on that disc as well.

after that they spent years making mobile crap, including mobile Wizardry crap; basically they were guns for hire making DoCoMo shit and believe-it-or-not pay-by-the-databyte wizardry scenarios (lol japan) until finally the stars aligned and SOMEHOW they ended up getting a contract to make a crawler for the NDS... and thus: The Dark Spire.

it's no coincidence the 'Spire is the type of game it is :)

sadly i have no idea what they've been up to since TDS and none of the japanese sites i've recently been visiting have any mention of them. i don't think TDS did too badly though. there is hope. Perhaps they're paying the bills right now by ripping off impressionable young island-dwarves with pay-by-the-byte rip-off wizardry scenarios as we speak! we can only hope.

hmm... this is interesting. i just now googled success and they've been churning out these mobile wizardry games called "Wizardry Traditional" and they, um... they don't look like shit.

that blue and purple vector-dungeon looks psychedelic as fuck.

EDIT: UH OH. Check out Success Corp.'s most recent NDS game...

i'm gonna take a break from listing guys. i just spent almost 2 hours scouring google for manuals/soundtracks/walkthroughs/wikias/fan-sites and all the good stuff i want to list along with every single game except i just spent those hours searching for those things for the games:

- Mordor 1 and 2
- demise ascension
- bard's legacy devil whiskey

if anyone here knows the people behind these games please, PLEASE contact them and show them this thread and TELL THEM THAT THEY NEED BETTER WEBSITES. it took me quite a long while to even find the "Order" link in the main demise website. Also when you click on a game's title in the main website, say for example you see the words "MORDOR 2: DARKNESS AWAKENING" and you click on it and there is literally no way of knowing whether it will start a download for a beta of the game or if it will take you to the section of the site with the game information. (most dumb people would probably freak out at an exe immediately downloading when they just want to see the game's information page).

agh i don't mean to sound like an ass but these games look AWESOME and this guy(s) has basically the motherfucking worst website in the world in terms of layout, presentation and conveying what the product is and how to get it to the person browsing.

he should also take 10 minutes out of his day and create a Wikipedia entry for all of his games as well. it's just common sense. it's AMAZING how little information you can get for these 4 games even with copious googling. To be fair there are tons of pictures online but that is only because of the players. He should thank them.

lol it took me longer to compile information on david allen's games for this simple forum post than it took me to make the wizardry thread.

anyway since those games are great and i want them to sell i decided to include links for buying the games. ATM these would be: swords and sorcery (link to steam), demise: ascension (link to gamergate), morder 1 and 2 (link to the dude's website) and devil whiskey (link to the game's DOT COM site).

i considered including one for GRIM-WAH as well but then i remembered that cleve is an asshat and a thief. (albeit a genius one!)

EDIT: the demise guy(s) should take notice of Charle's swords and sorcery: underworld website and presentation and aim for that type of thing. it took me less than 3 minutes to get all of the necessary info for Charle's game. googling the game producings almost anything you might want to know including wikia entries.

obviously the thread is FAAAAR from done. tons of games to add.
