Vedetas - the Daughters of the Moon
5 OCTOBER - KLABATER
417c255e3911fb242433779daa8e3224751ea57f.jpg

Last month we've teased you with information about presentation of a new special worker class, straight from the world of Crossroads Inn. And now, the time has come.
Vedetas, also described as the Daughters of the Moon, play a significant role in Delcrys. Dabbling in harlotry, they are an object of desire and contempt for numerous people. At the same time, they are feared and able to remain independent. All because of their power to cast curses, bestowed upon them by the deity of the moon. At least that is what people believe! Because of that, everyone is very careful to not offend them. Harming one of the Vedetas is perceived as bringing a huge misfortune to the whole family of a culprit.

Vedetas come from houses established by those of them, who because of their age are no longer practicing their profession, but at the same time gained enough wealth and prestige. People call them the Homes of the Moon. They serve as a shelter for orphaned children and women in need. Those who display beauty and talent will acquire various skills under a strict supervision of the house owner. When they're ready, they leave the Home of the Moon and embark on a journey, taking the name of Vedeta.

When it comes to your inn, their importance is hard to overestimate. Just like bards, they require a separate chamber. At the same time, however, they turn a large profit for you and make your clients more willing to come back to your inn. Additionally, each of them has unique social affiliations. Choosing a specific Vedeta will be crucial for defining the social trait of your tavern.
One of the Vedetas, particularly admired by representatives of Nobles and Distressed, is Kii. This beauty, who comes from the tribe of Ilits, one of the Courier tribes, is most famous for her skillful massage and lyre playing technique. She is rather taciturn and minimalistic in her expression. After leaving the house of Madame Yori in Couriers Stronghold, she moved to Trevenoux, where a bunch of infatuated bards created numerous poems on her behalf. Life was good for her, but a sudden friction with a wife of a duke, who used her services, forced her to leave the town and seek her fortune elsewhere. Maybe she'll find it in your tavern?

Dear Innkeepers! It gives us great pleasure to announce the collaboration with Nerds' Kitchen team on the Crossroads Inn project. They are a bunch of experts on the culinary side of games, who prepared an e-book with recipes from Witcher's universe for CD Projekt Red.

In our project, Nerds' Kitchen are responsible for creating 12 legendary dishes from the Delcrys universe. They've also helped designing other dishes, that you'll be able to include into the menu of your tavern. And that's not all, we have an additional surprise for you! You will be able to prepare the legendary dishes on you own, in your own very kitchen with a "Crossroads Inn Cookbook" that Nerds' Kitchen are preparing for us!

CREATORS OF CROSSROADS INN ANNOUNCE A CROWDFUNDING CAMPAIGN!
1 FEB @ 3:26PM - STOREOPS

Dear Bartenders!

We decided to launch a crowdfunding campaign for the Crossroads Inn on Kickstarter in less than two weeks time:). The campaign on Kickstarter is scheduled to start on 12 February 2019 and will last 30 days.

We want to raise USD 30k for the expansion of the title. The collection will start on February 12th.

We decided to engage our community and reach new fans by organizing a crowdfunding action on Kickstarter. This will allow us to expand the game and add elements that will certainly make the gameplay more enjoyable for players. We want to increase the number of cut-scenes, expand the music layer and involve in to the project top class lectors. Additionally, we hope that a successful campaign will also help to increase the promotional range of our production.

Those who decide to back our project will get access to early access, unique gifts and additional in-game content. What is important, players will be able to give us their comments and observations, which may decide about the final appearance of the project – their voices are the most important for us.

The campaign on Kickstarter is scheduled to start on 12 February 2019 and will last 30 days.

Stay tuned for more news!

Fantasy tavern simulator Crossroads Inn will release in October
Get an extended look at the sandbox mode in action.

Earlier this year developer Kraken Unleashed successfully funded Crossroads Inn, a fantasy tavern management sim with RPG touches on Kickstarter. Now the team is feeling good enough to settle on a release date: October 18, 2019.

I dig the idea, echoing the role-reversal of Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale and Holy Potatoes! A Weapon Shop, but with a more grounded, deeply systemic foundation.

Every good adventure starts in a tavern. The heroes eyeball one another over tankards of mead and wedges of cheese and bread. An assassin in the shadows, goblins in the square, ants in someone's pants—a thing happens that brings them all together, and so chapter one begins.

But what about the people serving up that mead and bread and cheese? For them, it's another Tuesday: a big mess to clean up, repairs to make, and more food and drink to prep. Then there are the other customers to attend to, people of every class from the farthest reaches of the land.

Crossroads Inn tasks players with creating and managing such a place, keeping a busy inn stocked up, profitable, and in good repute with locals and new patrons alike.

The plan is to launch with three modes: a campaign replete with characters and drama to challenge management skills in specific ways, an endless sandbox mode, and an editor for changing or creating entirely new building and design components.

Take a quick look at the sandbox mode in the video below.

Once the place is put together, the job kicks in. Here's a basic overview of how the simulation works:

Innkeepers are tasked with designing their inn, managing its employees and its money. How you price food and drinks and how you build the inn, from decorations to practical design considerations, will affect its profits and notoriety. More specifically, those decisions will influence who your inn appeals to, and while 'everyone' is aspirational, it is also very unlikely.

Different social classes complicate things further. Appealing to the poor and the rich, while making sure adventurers, bards, and the occasional noble would be equally pleased in your chill hang zone, doesn't sound easy. But there are unique benefits to keeping everyone happy. For example, pleasing adventurers means they'll share profits or join the team as guards, while keeping a bard happy lowers the chances of brawls breaking out.

I'm curious to see how the tangle of those systemic relationships plays out in the long term, whether they make for an interesting story generator or become rote and routine. From what I've seen and read, Crossroads Inn is looking like a clever role reversal with some good ideas, and it's in decent shape based on the sandbox trailer. I'm particularly hopeful that the campaign pulls a Frostpunk and mixes simulation with storytelling in surprising ways.

I think I know what kind of innkeeper I want to be, but I'd really like to see how the stresses of running one molds me into something unexpected. We'll find out whether I'm a gallant community leader or heartless profiteer (almost certainly the latter) this fall.

Some insights
In-game factions – Birdhouse
CINN_Fb_Birdhouse-2.jpg

THERE’S ALWAYS THE FLOCK!

Birdhouse is a bunch of cutthroats, thieves, beggars and other life survivors, who usually live on the street. Representatives of this faction can be found in every town. You can recognize them by attached bird feathers to their clothes. Their usual place of assembly are the roofs of buildings. They usually sit there, planning who has recently become excessively rich and who is worth plucking off.

The main value of the members of this faction is loyalty. Every member can count on the help of his compatriot. However, this help never comes for free. Its beneficiary can be sure that he will soon have to reciprocate the favor.

Depending on the way of earning, members of the birdhouse assume the names of different birds. Pickpockets are Magpies. Burglars call themselves Cuckoses. Nightingales are spies, Larks are beggars and Blackbird is a paid killer.
CINN_Fb_Laborers.jpg

Laborers are the basic workforce in your inn. Each wise innkeeper should think about their employment in the first place. They perform both the simplest physical work as well as the more complex ones – such as all kinds of repairs. Their duties include removing debris, moving goods, planting agricultural products or learning new plan of building facilities in your inn.

Depending on the level of experience, they carry other titles. The lowest level is a farmhand. The medium level is called a worker, the highest one is the master. Employees from the highest levels have the opportunity to improve furniture, which increases their parameters and makes them more effective in meeting the needs of your guests.

Laborers have three levels of advancement: Drudge, Workman and Foreman.
CINN_Fb_Orrey.jpg

They say Orrey was created in the place where the last living giant died. Or rather, where he was killed by people. The rulers of the time decided to build a city in honor of this victory. And because the surrounding area was rich in fertile land, it developed very quickly and gained the status of the capital of the country. In the northern parts of the city you can find old buildings, which are considered to be the remains of the giants. They include a tower, which is the seat of the Birdhouse.

Orrey is located on a hill, at the intersection of three rivers having their source in the north. They are navigable, so the city is better communicated. Orrey is home to the Yorevale royal court. A magnificent castle with internal walls towers over the city. In the central part is located the impressive University with the largest library on the continent. With adjacent villages is the largest center of the Delcrys.
CINN_Fb_Swindler.jpg

Scoundrels are not necessary in your inn but having them as the employees can significantly increase your income.

A swindler is indispensable for handling gambling tables, which generate additional revenue. In addition, with reaching further levels of advancement, this employee gives you unique opportunities to apply shady earning practices – for example, watering of wine or baking of empty bread. At your request, the swindler can also try to steal pocket money and when he meets a drunken client, he may try to extort from him an additional payment for the inn services.

Like all employees, they have three levels of advancement: Tinhorn, Crook and Swindler.
CINN_FB_Alstero.jpg

Knights Errant are heroes from all sides of the Delcrys who are guided in their lives by honor and knights’ code. Wearing heavy armour, hidden behind animal visors and equipped with heavy swords, these romantics wander the innards in search of adventure and glory. From the side of the mighty of this world, they are most often ridiculed, but the simple people have a great love for them. It is about them that the bards write about in their songs, and the tired parents tell their children to sleep.
CINN_Fb_Sambria.jpg

As part of the Explore the World of Crossroads Inn series, we would like to introduce you to another country from Delcrys – Sambria.

Sambria’s origins are linked to refugees and fugitives from Yorevale. Here, among the shepherding tribes, there were people who, for various reasons, could not find their place in the north. Due to the poor quality of the land and the lack of natural resources, their attention was increasingly focused on the sea. The sudden increase in the importance of Samria is connected with the discovery of the overseas lands. The exotic goods brought in and the slaves allowed the country to flourish and the cities located mainly on the coast to develop.

The state system resembles a republic, although the right to vote is closely related to the size of the estate. Due to their contact with other cultures, they are a society very open to diversity, which does not prevent them from deriving huge profits from the slave trade.
CINN_Fb_Seers.jpg

The fourth faction in the Crossroads Inn is the female order “Seers”.

They are the most influential faction in Delcrys. Each of her members is comprehensively educated. What’s more, it has the gift of predicting the future. Therefore, all important families, trade companies and important institutions have their own Seer and follow her advice.

The leader of the Order, Calisterre, knows perfectly well which of the young girls from Delcrys are suitable for adepts. The moment when the Seeker knocks on the door of your household to take your several-year-old daughter to the Academy is considered a great honor and social ennoblement. Seers can be recognized by characteristic tattoos around the eyes.

It's really rough. It's like everything is in an almost done but not quite finished state – controls are clunky as hell, the dialogues feel like placeholders, servers are way too slow, meaning you need to basically hire one for every table you put down (imagine doing that IRL, lol), there's no way to cancel an action as far as I can tell, the UI is needlessly big and makes the screen cluttered for no reason, worldmap is buggy and looks cheap as hell... I could go on. Really, it feels like an early access game, but it's not. Idk what they plan for patches and DLCs, but this shit needs half a year (at the very least) of development just to bring the core game into shape.

Wow. I just finished dinner and was going to get stuck into this for the first time. I guess I'll uninstall and leave it on the backlog for a few months. Disappointed.
