Switching out the casino for a carnival to make it past the censors I see. Kinda surprised the devil survived that, though maybe no one cares when he's the bad guy.
Still, they're gonna be rolling in cash. Toy lines selling like hot cakes.
It's not probably not Mario money, but the franchise rights alone etc etc

Make the Codex Great Again!
This reminds me of the new Tom & Jerry / Looney Tunes shows that were made in the 90s and 2000s - they got the static character designs (mostly) right, but everything else was an obvious, pale imitation.

Maybe I have been tainted by current year events, but I swear the animation in that trailer is Cal Arts but better.

What these revivals always miss is that characters from that era were designed to function within 7-10 minute shorts that were generally laid out with a lot of musical beats, almost like comedic music videos. Most modern takes put them in 30 minute shows that have "wacky" ambient music added in later because the creative process is dominated by producers and writers that have no sense of visual or musical storytelling, so the timing always feels totally off, the shows are too talky, and the whole vibe is just killed immediately.

Forced myself to watch two episodes of The Cuphead Show because I'm a masochist. Not only is it bad, it's literally painful to watch as I developed a migraine while watching the second episode. I've never had a show (not even Legend of Korra) succeed at making me hate every character, but somehow the production team of this dumpster fire managed it. My expectations were as low as could be and I was still disappointed.

Par on course for a Netflix show. What's the plot to begin with? A retread of the game's story?

I thought the game was too hard and as such I did not enjoy it.

Well.

Yes but instead of Cuphead and Mugman losing at the casino, apparently Cuphead lost at some skee ball game that the devil used to extract souls.

The second episode was about Cuphead and Mugman having to deal with some fucking annoying devil baby.

I stopped watching after that so I have no idea if the rest of the episodes involve the devil trying to take Mugman and Cuphead's souls.

Comparing this POS to the game is like comparing the latest Tom & Jerry movie to the Fred Quimby episodes, except way more annoying and shitty.

My problem with the game wasn't the difficulty, but the way that nothing seemed to have any weight or physics to it. You never get a particular "feel" of Cuphead's body like you do with Sonic or Mario or basically any other platformer, and the effect is such that it just seems like you are maneuvering his sprite to avoid on screen enemies, rather than actually controlling him. I know it wasn't designed in flash, but it felt like a flash game to me.

It's not as bad as you claim. The animation is gorgeous, which is 90% of the reason to watch. The writing isn't as strong. I wish they had done conscious parodies of 1930s/40s cartoons, but instead the sensibility is more modern, to the point that the 1930s sheen seems like more just art-dressing than a setting or era. I've been watching it on mute while I run and it's good for that, as you don't need to be terribly invested in the plots. The best one so far has mughead breaking his handle.

Codex 2014 Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy
As to be expected, Wikipedia exclaims that the Cuphead Show "was released to generally positive reviews."

Sadly for them I'm wise enough to steer away from anything made in the Current Year, and I praise udm for his sacrifice.

Because it draws more from run n' guns than platformers. You ever played some of the classic Contra games? The characters have no 'weight' because it's not the point.

Maybe, but the other major issue is that bosses don't react to being shot. They don't even flash or anything like that, which bosses in games like Metal Slug usually do. When I first started playing the game, I suspect that bosses were just on timers and you merely had to survive long enough to make it through. I'm still not 100% convinced this isn't true. The bosses just go about their normal behavior, completely oblivious to being shot, then you die halfway through, and it shows your "progress" judged not by hit points, but by time marked along a linear path.

I imagine that bosses actually do have hitpoints, but if they do, the game does a shitty job of showing it.

Cuphead isn't as hard as claimed; the only hard boss is Mr. Dice.

The way I noticed is by how they lost a lot of health whenever I used a power move.

Regarding the show, I was mistaken. It could be great if the animation style was old-school like this one, which I re-discovered and watched the other day.

Of course, that requires more work than the standard Cal Arts tripe.

I get the same impression.

Me too. I think it's because of Cuphead's mouth animation. The rest of the animations looks ok but those mouths are calarts-mouths.
