is it the main story or a sidequest? Could be they just forgot about it if its a minor questline.

So did they run out of money and were forced to release an unfinished game or what's the deal with this?
One dev on Steam:

Hi @commander - yes there are some storylines that are not 100% finished at this time. Most of them are in either mid-development or in review and certification for release. We are a small team and our ambitions were great. As the lead storywriter, I will take the blame here - no matter how many extra hours we crammed on the game, we could not finish every thing we had in mind for the (long pre-arranged) launch date.

The story content will be published as soon as it is finished and stable.

Sorry for the confusion and for letting you down on this one.

I wouldn't know, since everything feels like sidequests to me. Still have not figured out if I got a main mission or not.
I have found an answer

Nobody's doubting that these guys will finish it (and more!), but "it's all good" for those of us clever enough to hold off. I would be kind of of pissed if I had spent a lot of time on a playthrough and saw that. Looks like something from a porn game lol.

What's even the point of calling it a full release at that point.

Calm down man. Back in the day they would have just cut the quest completly. It is not like deadlines are a new thing

As well they should have. I'd rather not have the option to do a mission line than to have one only to realize halfway in that it just stops abruptly and I can't play on.

I agree it could have been solved a bit more classy.

Well when I installed my games off 5.25s, 3.5s or CDs it was guaranteed to be finished, even if bad. Patches would be very rarely distributed via gaming magazine coverdisks as a footnote to some demos, if at all.

Then the internet came along and the world went to shit.

Problem is that they did early access to begin with, during which time the quest was included in the unfinished state, fair.

Then their deadline came up and they didn't have time to finish it.

But they're so autistic about not breaking saves they couldn't cut the quest.

Best way would've been to disable starting the storyline until it is finished, so that it wouldn't affect people buying in after full release.

But it's true that coming out of EA is less "the game's done" and more "the game's not a broken mess now" these days.

I was going to drop a review but they've taken my review as far as they can with the current content.

I mean, it's not like it gave you a mission without an exit or something. I'm fine with a quest being cut short between missions if the alternative is to just be missing quests. And they did you the courtesy of letting you know, instead of it just failing to continue despite indications it should- which is how most unfinished content gets used in games. Red herrings in games piss me off.

I can see the argument that they should have delayed the release date until they'd tied off such loose ends, but I've no idea what their financial situation was, and I know they made a point of releasing the game when they did to coincide with a steam event.

Yeah, but it's not supposed to be Early Access anymore. I understand the hardship of being an indie dev. I just don't like how 1.0 is now treated as a secret continuation of EA. Hope you don't notice, and if you do - we are just a poor indie dev team, so you can’t be too mad, right?

Yeah, this is the crux of the matter. If I've got a feature that's half-done and I need to ship _something_, I make it so that feature can't be accessed, because that's less offending to the end user.

Of course, I'm not in gamedev, where anything goes and the users don't matter.

It's a spectatularly bad solution. A message like that shits on the fundamental accord between player and developer that the game is selling you a fiction and if you suspend your disbelief it will hold up its end. No story that takes itself remotely seriously is allowed to pull this kind of stunt. It's like opening a cabinet in a brand new apartment and finding an exposed live wire - it should never happen.
