Gave it a pirate, it sucks.
I beat the brain on the second try after dying early in the first one. Didn't even think I was going to win but I managed advance through the mountain without the highwayman and favorable Death's Door RNG let me beat the brain. Only the graverobber survived thanks to the self heal.
The need to grind for perma upgrades is pretty blatant, I doubt I would have been able to beat it on the 2nd run without the MaA's taunt/counter ability and you can only get that after 2 flashbacks, meaning you'd have to be very lucky to unlock it during the first area if you want a "honest" first run.

The 2nd run victory unlocked the hellion and runaway. I gave the hellion a try and saw that the yawp debuffs her as well as the enemy. How do you un-debuff yourself? By using skills that take 2 or more flashbacks to acquire.
I deleted the game shortly thereafter.

Edit: Oh yeah and all the animations are SLOW AS SHIT. I can't imagine playing this at 1x speed and having to go through five relationship animations every time a character takes their turn.

Leper was based on King Baldwin IV of Jerusalem, therefore he must look like Edward Norton.

It was pretty obvious that Leper was a white guy, you could see the lower half of his face with his mask on. Though this does retroactively make his "Let The Mask Down" camping skill hilarious since it gives everyone else stress.

Even in DD2 you can still see that he is Caucasian in his usual Leper get-up, lmao. Only in the flashback is he full on hood brudda.

I just noticed that a character's skin tone in your videogame isn't pale, therefore I'm unable to play it now.

The character in question wasn’t black.
If Arbalest or Occultist was race swapped and people were complaining about it, would you be reacting the way you are right now?

I’m not sure why I brought up Arbalest, because she’s ugly and the least popular character out of all of them, but you get my point.

I didn't play much so this might be an early take but I really don't enjoy the core gameplay of this while I did put quite a few hours in the first game.
I'm glad that the roster managing is gone but what replaced it is not the right direction in my opinion. I think the wagon "minigame" is meh, it's actually less interesting than the exploring in the first game especially when the events are pretty repetitive. This might change when the game releases when there'll hopefully be more content but until then I'm unimpressed. I guess the character interactions are supposed to spice it up as to not pick your favorite choice every time but I think it fails to do that.
Speaking of which, the character affinity is garbage. I just don't see anything nice about it. It punishes you for doing normal things like killing monsters and sometimes even guarding someone. On top of that it destroys the flow of combat with the constant interruptions.
I also have some negative opinions on the new buff/debuff tokens but I want to play more before expressing them. I will say that it's probably one of the reasons the UI is much harder to read and that some classes feel like they were nerfed in order to compensate (that and for the "new" upgrade system probably)
The animations are nice and I like the backstory encounters of all the characters I guess. Although them being the condition to unlocking skills is shit.
I'll try it again when it gets more updates/releases but right now for me it's a steep decline from the first. Also bring back Reynauld
