Bottom line: Days Gone is a masterpiece. Outstanding story and presentation, and good enough gameplay/world.

lol, I guess I'm "following" this game on Steam still since I got a big exciting news post about the huge recent DLC featuring:

* Speedrun mode! In which the game is exactly the same except we put a stopwatch in the corner!

* Permadeath mode! Remember how when you died you could choose whether or not to continue from a save? Well now you can't! Otherwise the game is exactly the same!

* Graphics! Graphics! Graphics! We don't need to improve the gameplay, because you will want to spend more money to play the exact same game again with slightly better graphics!

I mean jesus christ.

OK there is a horde mode now which is a slightly new wrinkle on the gameplay. Buuuut yknow the game already had big hordes to fight.
Annnnd that is it. That's the whole DLC.

I can't believe they didn't restore some cut content or at least add in some new bike parts or weapons, anything to make a replay worth it for returning players. As for the graphics, I don't think the PC version of the DLC added any improvements.

Are you me? I got the game on a grey reseller site when it was released and also didn't play it after 2021 until just last week. I'm actually having a decent time with it, although it is basically a Ubislop + Troons of Us crack baby. I hear it overstays its welcome, so we'll see. I think it looks great but unfortunately, they only had literally one natural environment artist and it kinda shows...many of the assets are recycled and the world seems kinda samey, although it looks and runs great.

I've had Days Gone for a few years and installed it this past month. I'm not sure if I'm playing a new version or not; I didn't realize there was a remaster. But the game is ok. It's very similar to Mad Max for me in that the driving/vehicle aspect is its strongpoint and just the act of getting around is fun. I kinda dig the conceit of having to clear pathlines to open up quick travel, too. It's a nice middle-ground of sorts that helps the game's pace feel more "used" instead of instantly hopscotching around the moment you want to a la Skyrim/FO. I like that the zombies sometimes just show up in areas and in force. I was assaulting a base, for example, and about twenty of them showed up and swept through the area while I sat in the cuck bush and watched them absolutely rail a bunch of cannibals for me.

The plot has some hiccups; at one point, they replayed the entire introduction cutscene again , which was a bizarre choice. The extreme obviousness of where the plot is going makes it a little laborious to get through, if not outright melodramatic at times. I think the dialogue and vernacular are generally on point. The voice acting's pretty good, though the direction is a little iffy at times. They do this thing that the Spiderman game did which is seemingly record the same lines with various levels of exertion. In Spiderman, it's brilliantly executed, but in Days Gone the main guy sometimes will be screaming as if he's trying to talk over his dirt bike, but I'm just sitting somewhere; sometimes he's even screaming and the person he's talking to his talking normally. It's not gamebreaking but it's very amusing. There are werid audio bugs, too: one time I spun out over some gravel and the game absolutely erupted like a ship crashing ashore and it scared the fuck out of me far more than any zombie ever had to that point.

I think I'll probably get to one of the mass horde events and do that and then call it quits; but I still think that'll be worth the $5 or $10 I paid for it.

The game is humongous and takes forever to complete. I got burned out halfway through, and didn't end up getting back to it and beating it, until a year or two after I started it.

Reuniting with the wife was so anti-climatic. Also, she having similar trashy tatts as our protagonist was ass. I hate tattooed women with a passion.

I hate tattooed men with a passion too. Don't know why you all apparently find it unappealing only on women. The protagonist is unlikable white trash. Ruined his skin only because everybody else does it. Because he's so insecure about being ordinary. Even though tats are so common now that NOT getting them makes you more unique. What a weakling.

I do kind of agree about tattoos as they are now, but I think the traditional thing of tattooing was a representation of dominance and mastery over the body, and a physical (costly in pain terms) manifestation of various kinds of solidarity with others. And it goes waaaaaay back (consider Otzi).
