Announcement at The Game Awards tomorrow?

I hate game awards. "Game Awards" or most game showcases these days are big cons. They tend to showcase what games not to look forward to since they are basically taking a play from the Hollywood's Academy Awards. They create a fake show made by and for an industry oligarchy to get free marketing and publicity to promote their own games, or friends that went through the proper "initiation" on the casting couch. This allows them to set the tone of the industry by convincing us that their products are the best the world has to offer and what people really want. Don't fall for it. If we want to get some good RPGs made, we need to stop talking about the circle jerks happening next door. Innovation never comes out of circle jerks. They just get better at jerking each other off and making us watch (and talk) about it!

Looks like they've been repainted to give 'em more color and definition, probably trying to make each of them feel more like characters to go with their new voice-over. The ones for Motorics Skills look cool, but others...

Don't know about this one, man. Staring at me with those big ol' eyes.

Yeah, I think they're also changing the ones for some of the characters as well, they aren't in the displate website but you could see Edrart's new one in the final cut trailer.
I like the new portraits, they made the PHY atributes look more brutal, the PHY look more solid and steel-like, and the MOT just straight up look a LOT better. The only one I'm iffy about is the suggestion one with the weird eyes, they look like a child's. Maybe it's intentional? probably not Suggestion is always ALWAYS wrong, after all.
The other thing I don't like about the new portraits is that they look more... real. Not like a dream or one of those glimpses of an image you get in your mind for like a split second. But imo it's a decent trade.

MOT are all a net improvement, FYS's new drippingly meaty textures adds to their character, and I can't even tell what's been changed to the INT at a glance. With PSY...

I really like the new Eyelashes on Empathy, fits it as a touchy-feely skill. Suggestion's new peepers are kinda funny but still endearing. Esprit and Drama both look better, and Inland and Volition don't look much different. Somethin' about the full crown on Authority is off to me.

Of all skills I don't like changes to Authority and Suggestion.

Suggestion was better without eyes. Adding them is a meaningless departure from the original - making the smile more... knowing/sinister/suggestive, while keeping the old no-eyes look would've been a better change in my opinion.

Authority's old look suggested it wears a crown of laurels, giving it caesarian impression which can be easily associated with authority. You could say the crown fits there just as well, but... why fix what isn't broken?

Disco Elysium is now available in Russian!
Oh yes, *bratan*!

Hello everyone!

Today is yet another special day for Disco Elysium as it is now available in Russian. That makes for nine supported languages with around a whopping four billion people across the globe able to play in a language they can read.

We've worked closely with the Russian translation team in order to get the most out of what is a powerful, poetic language. It's no secret that Russian is close to many of our writers and artists, who have previously revealed their influences across literature, games, and art -- many of which have distinctly Russian origins.

We'd like to say a huge thank you to the translators for their dedication and hard work. We hope you get as much of a thrill out of playing Disco Elysium in Russian as we have translating it. Remember to make the most of our language switch feature by pressing the Q or L button mid-game to change which translation you're playing. And please note that we're looking to improve the text going forward, so please reach out and let us know if you see any ways we can do that.

The game is -40% all week long to celebrate this launch so now is a great time to pick up Disco Elysium for yourself or a friend -- especially one who speaks Russian.

Thank you so much for all the support we continue to receive from you all. This year is a huge year for Disco Elysium as we have Disco Elysium - The Final Cut coming out. Missed the announcement? Be sure to read all about it here!

Finished the second full run. Was gonna check RU localization out of curiocity but looked at the fonts and went with 'nah, I'm fine'. They're not atrocious or anything but look significantly worse, too neutral. It's a common problem, unfortunately. But from some bits I've seen localization itself looks very good. Surprisingly good, even.

Overall impressions weren't as vivid as the first ones obviously and lacking of reactivity were even more glaring. Hardcore mode, which should be offered right at the beginning not via options only, just making checks somewhat harder and that's basically it. No restrictions, no actual time management, nothing. Am I missing something? Description tells about increased XP but it felt the same. Additional cost for healing items - does anyone even buys those? So much stuff lying around, maybe 1purple/1red builds needs that or if picking the most pathetic/crazy lines all the time but it's a mode for experienced players we're talking about.

Anyway, the reason I'm writing was this: what's the darkest stuff you can do in the game? I mean, besides drinking and snorting again, punching Kuno, stealing some shit here and there, you can threat some NPC, right? So imo the most grim scene with the strong 'Bad Lieutenant' vibe is
demand for a bribe from Andre and his crew
From screenshots thread I've seen that you can get the gun before meeting Titus and use it there, it looks promising but what else?

Finished the second full run.
Should've waited for the final cut before doing that imho. Aren't you too burned out to play it a third time around now?

well, there are three start builds.
I'm sorry to say that you have the brainspan of a stagecoach tilter, Verylittlefishes. jackofshadows already complained about the lack of reactivity, so it's not like that'd help too much.

No, the plan was to refresh my memory to distinct future content. There's little left to burn, unfortunately. Even the ex-things weren't that devastating, not even close. The story is magnificent but its effect is strong only once. And the game itself not that long, so...
well, there are three start builds.
Yeah, and also you can distribute stats manually but there's only 4 stats in total so after two runs with the 'opposite' builds one can see all the 'inner demon's comments'.

From the top of my head you can shoot Cunnoesse, threaten the programer lady in the church to leave by telling her you'll beat the shit out of her or by just pulling out your gun, and have Jean tell you this during your final dialogue after having the worst outcome imaginable (no kim, no cuno, only drunk harry):
"Good bye, Harry. And -- I know it won't happen, but..." He looks at you, heart steeled and eyes cold. "*If* you make it -- if you've been sober for 10 months -- tell us. I'll work with you again. But not like this. Never like this again. This is over."

tl;dr made a poster/wallpaper to celebrate my first playthrough (44 fascist, 23 ultraliberal, 11 moralist, 3 communist)
h896kGR.jpg

I can't say the game struck me as especially communist or pushing communism on its own. Although that might sound a bit conspiratorial, it seems to be marketed to them because they are pushy yet gullible and they doggedly associate Eastern European devs with it (even though Estonians are generally one of the most anti-communist nations in the world). You mention Marx and El Chapo as a dev and they drool all over you. It works - if you look at the stats on Steam, it's as follows:
25.3% said communist things 9+ times
22.5% moralist
16.8% ultraliberal
10% traditionalist (might be deflated because of the morale damage)

The more well-developed communist characters like Evrart and the Deserter are too perverse to serve as clear poster boys, and it's basically only the Hardy Boys that fit. As pointed out above, the ideologies are treated fairly reasonably in terms of lore but comically in terms of dialogue options, and the main message seems more existentialist than anything. I.e., the source of failure is the entropic nature of the world, humans should be huddling together for friendship and intimacy, should be finding their clique and not be alone (Hardy Boys, mercs, police, ravers, etc.) It seems somewhat split between a moralist 'clean up your room before you change the world' and 'turn your life into something unique by pursuing a wild aim since you will die anyway'. It seems to be somewhat encapsulated by the cryptozoologist and his wife.

With regards to fascism, it is reflected in how other characters describe Harry and in the numeric score. It's clearly not about having the thought 'Revacholian Nationhood', so I don't see why people cry so much over it. The point of the thought is depression over the condition of the nation and that you're drowning it in alcohol. The thought is directly contradicted by the other right-wing line of research via Advanced Race Theory, which leads you to accepting the waste land of reality and rejecting alcohol on account that it is degenerate and bad for your race. The upshot is that the game does not paint racialists as alcoholics, but rather the reverse - it's the first opportunity to stop being an alcoholic. (The other later opportunity apparently are religious fanatics.)

Measurehead is actually pretty curious in terms of the reaction he elicits. A quick perusal of Reddit and Youtube shows that the lefties really relish the violence against him. This is quite odd since ordinarily you would expect them to be fine or even deferential to a black nationalist (Malcolm X, Elijah Muhammad, Marcus Garvey, etc.) It's basically the whole Nation of Islam type rhetoric of mixing random racial science lingo to sound educated while pushing reverse discrimination in an attempt to salvage dignity. Maybe the issue is that he is insufficiently aggressive towards whites. But their reaction is positively boomer in terms of how unreflective it is; the character is so good at teasing them they completely ignore the context. BLM would probably lambaste them over this if they played CRPGs.
