Is that necessary? I don't think I've ever come across an anti-user protected game that didn't state as much on the box/download service.

If you're like us and store isos of everything on an external disk, then what you really need is instructions on how to circumvent anti-user protection. The DT forum is a good place to look for that sort of thing.

The better alternative though, is to use online publishers like GOG and Impulse. The former gives you an unprotected installer, so simply save that to wherever you keep your games. The latter has build-in backup functionality. It's slower, but works just as well. The only problem with Impulse & GOG is the limited catalogues. But then, I think it's perfectly reasonable to boycott anything not available through those publishers, on the grounds that whomever owns the missing shit are obviously cunts on a mission to rip you off.

There's two truisms you need to understand here. First off, Hanlon's Razor says: "Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity."
Secondly, Disconnected's addendum says: "Never attribute to stupidity that which can be adequately explained by greed."

From this you can readily draw the conclusion that if the type of copy protection employed isn't stated on the box/download page, it is not because there is no copy protection, but rather because someone wants to trick you.

In those cases, a Google search for the game title plus "copy protection" should inform you of the exact type of protection used. But the more appropriate action would be to avoid the game altogether.

Because lack of copy protection obviously increases the value of the product, and you can therefore safely assume that the box would proclaim the fact in the biggest, fattest letters that can be fitted on the thing.

Point is, you don't actually need a forum to inform/warn you. You may need one to get around whatever the publisher calls copy protection, but in that case, the DT forum is far better than anything the Codex can hope to offer.

I guess it's the implementation such as the limited installs that, understandably, caused a backlash.

Games for Windows Live and requiring an internet connection are much more "evil" than most DRM though.

Looks like I have I check whit regedit, but I did not notice any problems. I don't like to swap CDs, or having to turn off deamon that some legal games require. I have old PC so I don't have experience whit those new fancy DRM.

Ran regedit, didn't find it, am kinda happy now even though I wouldn't have cared if I found it either. What's so bad about it, anyways? You can get worse malware by browsing the net and downloading things.

No shit, I got a task to clean a Laptop from one nice lady. I used Webroot on it and it found a dangerous 5/5 Malware - when I tried to get rid of it, it counter-attacked. A battle started, when the dust settled the Windows in tatters - I couldn't enter it. This, I also don't have problems installing games that use SecuROM even when I have a virtual drive installed.

Starforce or TAGES are another matter though, they make older games outright incompatible with Vista 64 bit...
