The commonality I see with this kind of character in recent games (and it is a problem in DA:I) too, is there is very rarely a choice to tell them their shit stinks. Most of the choices are positive. DA:I has some snarky sarcastic responses occasionally thrown in there, but there's no "fuck up their relationship beyond all repair" choice, or, to go even further, the arch example in original Dragon Age of killing Leliana. Ironically, they partially retcon that in DA:I to being... she was killed, but somehow, miraculously, she's fine. It's the hand of the writer coming down and saying, "No that was a wrong choice, this character is too special to be treated this way."

More broadly that's my issue whenever these characters pop up in other games, it's a huge dissonance and narrative break when suddenly all your replies are polite and nice to this one character, whereas with some other NPC that isn't the case, and the genre's whole selling point is often the different and sometimes awful choices you can make in interacting with people.

That won't stop them from making the next game's characters intentionally ugly.
Only the female characters. Male characters will probably still be hot.
Will they be able to top this?

Do BioWare even have any good writers left?

So this Matt Goldman guy is the art director for most of BioWares games, all of the Dragon Age games, but Matt Rhodes is the artistic face of BioWare and in particular the Dragon Age games. Sounds like there really wasn't much point to Goldman. Maybe they'll actually get around to making a Dragon Age game that looks like Matt Rhodes art for once now, as opposed to some weird half realistic, half stylized take on Rhodes' stuff that they've been doing. That almost makes too much sense for BioWare to do though.

The same guy was the art director for DA1 and DA2? That makes no sense.

No. Matt is credited as a "senior artist" on Origins, the actual art directors were Dean Andersen and Alistair McNally. Matt took over in DA2.

Yeah, Goldman is Senior Artist on Origins, and then becomes Art Director for Dragon Age on Awakening. It looks like he left BioWare for a moment and joined Ensemble Studios, so that's probably why he's just credited as Senior Artist as opposed to Art Director.

Avellone gives Bioware what he's been giving Obsidian these past few years. https://twitter.com/ChrisAvellone/status/1466133676060594177

No idea who's still at BioWare anymore, I can't keep track of the departures. Good luck to all of them in future endeavors, though.

Avellone said:
They say they’re committed to a high quality Dragon Age game still but they’ve really only managed to make a single good dragon age game, as much as I enjoy the setting.
At this point, I can't even tell what they're really committed to beyond seeming to foster an environment that encourages departures of key staff. Almost all the names at BioWare ten+ years ago which helped make the studio... pretty much gone.

Have you seen the romance options for Andromeda?

I'm not sure anyone would call this "hot". Not even (most) furries.

I'm more disgusted by the danger hair he's hitting on tbh
I'm more disgusted by the comments.

At least the disgusting Biowhores will probably never breed. Let this curse die with them.

He probably feels liberated and he can say what he wants to because of his current situation.
I wonder, how does Avellone feel about Gaider throwing him under the bus last year?

They are no longer friends.
Fuck anyone who believes false rape accusations. Hope Avellone clears his name, he's a nice man and the GOAT RPG writer.

Joining our Community to Celebrate All Things Dragon Age!

We are blown away that all of you celebrate Dragon Age Day every year and appreciate everyone that does. Dragon Age Day launched unofficially by fans, for fans, in the Fall of 2018 by Teresa “ImaSithDuh” M, with a small team of founders also including Angela Mitchell, Savvy B., and Alistair SM James, as well as former participants Ghil Dirthalen and Andrastini. We really appreciate the team behind Dragon Age Day for bringing us all together while supporting inclusivity and accessibility with a contribution to Able Gamers charity in the process!

This day belongs to you, our awesome community. In that spirit, we want to celebrate with you as fellow fans while spotlighting your unique and imaginative contributions to a world we all love. All-day we’ll be showcasing your amazing original creations on social, dropping new Dragon Age™ merch on Dark Horse Direct, Gaming Heads, and the BioWare Gear Store, as well as giving away plenty of gift cards. Tag your posts on Twitter using #BioWareGiveaway for a chance to win. Apex Legends™ has also gotten in on the fun with a Dragon Age themed Highland Ravager Weapon Charm available to EA Play members to claim anytime between December 2, 2021, and January 4, 2022.

Additionally, the Dragon Age Day team will be hosting events including charity rewards on sale from Dragon Age fan artists, 24+ hours of Twitch Livestreams all day today, writing, art & meme prompts and challenges, and videos spotlighting personal insights from the Dragon Age fan community (this year’s question: “Who is your favorite Dragon Age Companion/Character, and Why?). You can also view the full list of activities here.

We are continuously amazed by the passionate, diverse, inspiring, and creative community that has come together to join us in the land of Thedas. We are humbled by the ways in which you have expanded and celebrated the world of Dragon Age. From captivating fan fiction, beautiful character art, and cutting-edge cosplay to themed weddings, birthdays, tattoos, and even baby names, the world of Thedas has extended beyond the games and is now its own living breathing place embodied by all of you. We can not thank you all enough for your continued support and love for the franchise. It is what inspires us each and every day to continue to build new worlds, characters, and stories for you to explore.

Speaking of building new worlds and stories for you to explore, we want to let you all know that we’re still hard at work on building the next single-player-focused experience for Dragon Age. We’re excited for next year when we can talk more about what we’re working on. Until then, we’ll leave you with two new short stories from the world of Dragon Age!
