Was there a single nostalgia KS project by old devs that didn't disappoint? Why are you guys sure this one will be any different?

Bloodstained is good.

Shenmue is OK, nothing groundbreaking but is more of the same basically which is good enough.

True dat, I've heard a lot of praises about Bloodstained. Shenmue 3 seems to have a lot of annoying design decisions and in some ways is an obvious decline compared to previous games. At least according to a video I've watched some time ago:

Holy shit this game is awesome. Just put an hour in and the soundtrack is already amazing, already met a handful of charming characters. This is gonna be a sweet adventure.

:takemymoney:

edit: didn't see the bro's post above. I just picked this one since I figured it's "the" one to try if one were to try just one. If this keeps up, which I'm sure it will, I'll go back to 1. Gotta enjoy/experience this adventure first though

Dang you miss out a very special Riou unite attack

Thespian's Stage #2

Hey everyone!

We’re back again for an end of the week update, and we’ve got plenty to talk about. On today’s Thespian’s Stage, we’re interviewing illustrator extraordinaire, Junko Kawano. But before we commence with our regularly scheduled programming, we’d like to start with an exciting announcement!

A Secret Stretch Goal!!

If there’s one thing everyone loves, it’s a secret surprise! And fortunately, thanks to the hard work of our developers, talks with all potential publishing partners, and your ongoing support, we are able to slide in one of the most requested features in the game as a new, secret stretch goal. Unfortunately, we can’t yet reveal what it is (it wouldn’t be much of a secret otherwise, would it?). We’ll just have to unlock the stretch goal to find out what it is!

Kawano’s Interview
On this week’s Thespian’s Stage, we interview Junko Kawano on her work on Eiyuden Chronicle as illustrator and character designer.

Enjoy!

Didn't know she worked on Shadow of Memories, I loved that game.

Architect’s Office #2: Guild System & Rune-Lenses

Hey everyone,

It’s time for another update! Today, we’re venturing back to the Architect’s Office, where we spotlight gameplay mechanics in Eiyuden Chronicle. This week, we’ve got an extra special spotlight, as we’re highlighting two systems: the Guild System, and Rune-Lenses! A lot of people have been asking for more in-depth explanations for these two systems, so we’re happy to focus on them in today’s update.

Before we get started, however, a special announcement.

10th most funded Video Game KickStarter!
Thanks to the incredible support of all of you out there, Eiyuden Chronicle is officially the 10th most funded video game Kickstarter of all time, with 19 days still left in the campaign. Thank you for helping us smash so many stretch goals!

Guild System
In the Fortress Town’s early stages, you will need to take a direct role in expanding the town by gathering resources, conducting trade, and so forth. However, as the Fortress Town gets bigger, you’ll gain the ability to found “guilds”: a miners’ guild, woodcutters’ guild, guardsmen’s guild, blacksmiths’ guild, cooks’ guild, traders’ guild, etc.

Once you’ve established these guilds around town, they will start doing some of the resource gathering and other legwork for you. And if you expand the guilds further, you’ll be able to set up special detachment parties (separate from your main party) to carry out guild work and amass even more resources and funds. These resources can then be invested to upgrade the Fortress Town and its guilds even further.

Now, we plan for these detachment parties to actually move through the game world toward their objectives. And while the more responsible heroes may head straight for the finish line and mine the ore or defend the town that’s in trouble, other heroes may be more inclined to warm a tavern seat or take side trips. Not only that, depending on the abilities of the heroes you choose for the detachment, they may bring home extra resources. Or, if they are attacked along the way without an able fighter, they may be put to flight and return home empty-handed.

Basically, since your characters have a variety of abilities, you’ll want to choose your detachment rosters carefully to maximize your results.

Rune Lenses
Rune-lenses are the backbone of all power in the world of Eiyuden Chronicles. Lenses have different significance from nation to nation and culture to culture, but people everywhere have learned to harness their magical power and have handed that wisdom down—whether it’s to cast spells; use supernatural powers; or wield the lens symbolically, claiming the “divine gifts” represent a communion with god. The lenses are commonly crafted into weapons and accessories. However, the Galdean Empire has figured out how to amplify the lenses’ power by placing them inside specially engineered rings called “regules.”

The most valuable rune-lenses are sometimes handed down through families. There are also some individuals who are born with them inside their bodies. Many heroes have their own rune-lenses—no doubt you’ve noticed the back of Marisa’s hand or Perrielle’s hairpin—but you may also encounter heroes who don’t rely on rune-lenses at all.

The lenses’ importance carries over into the game system, too. By affixing runes to your heroes’ lenses, you can give them new magics and skills, or perhaps improve their physical abilities. Each hero’s lens is unique and supports runes of different type, rarity, and quantity. Some lenses may already contain a specialized rune that cannot be removed. Others may require runes of a certain type be affixed in specific positions. And when your heroes level up, the number of runes their lenses hold can potentially increase. We hope that players will use this system to create a roster of heroes that feels personal and powerful.

I wonder where else a brave adventurer might find rune-lenses in the world of Allraan?

Clarification on PS4 and Xbox One
We’ve received a few questions concerning whether the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are platforms we will support, due to the wording of one of our stretch goals. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused. Since we have cleared the console stretch goal many moons ago, when the post campaign survey has been released, all backers will be able to choose between PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Next-gen Nintendo platform (if one has been announced at the time. Please see Crowdfunding Realities on the campaign page for more information), and PC.

New Premium Reward
As mentioned on Friday, we have some amazing new rewards for you. First off, we have a new Premium Reward that we’re rolling out today. Thanks to our backers clearing the Top Battle minigame stretch goal, we’re able to offer a brand new Premium Reward themed around it.

Name a Rival Beigoma Trainer

8b6644638a4b3f9af492b79f71011c7b_original.png

At this reward tier, you’ll have the chance to name one of the rival beigoma trainers that you’ll face off against as you work towards your goal of becoming the greatest beigoma player Allraan has ever seen.

Jeweler Job Reward Set
290c77674aeeebdb32d894495ff7181b_original.png

Some of you may have seen the Jeweler Job has been added to the ever growing list of Job reward Sets (which will continue to grow based on future stretch goals). Here is a mockup of what those beautiful enamel pins will look like.

Add-ons: Steelbook, Chibi-Chara Figures & Snappies
Unfortunately, because we don’t want to add a huge number of additional packaged tiers, you will have to order these new options by adding additional money to your pledge, and then be extra careful to choose that item on your post campaign backer survey. This can open the door to a wide variety of logistical headaches, so please be extra careful to confirm these choices in your backer survey when it arrives!

Fortunately, for these three options, you can choose them a la carte, allowing for you to customize your pledge the way you want. Please note: for other items in the packaged tiers (such as the physical artbook, figures, etc.), due to some very difficult financial considerations, they are not available as a la carte add-ons.

Steelbook

By adding $20 onto your base pledge, you can get one of the most requested items in the campaign: a premium Steelbook case. There’s no better way to protect your personal copy of Eiyuden Chronicle than by encasing it in this limited edition metal case.

Chibi-Chara Figures

64537b18e4e52e5bd8436c4fb64d4cba_original.png

By adding $50 onto your base pledge, you will get a set of five (5) premium Chibi-Chara figures. We’ve got a mockup image of Nowa in Chibi-Chara form, courtesy of Junichi Murakami.

Snappies

By adding $50 onto your base pledge, you will get a set of three (3) adorable Snappie plushies. Snappies have little snaps on their hands, so you can snap two Snappies together to make them hold hands, or even snap one Snappies’ hands together into an adorable hug!

Mockup images for Snappies will be revealed at a later date, but we can say that the three characters will be Rabbit & Bear, the company mascots, and Marisa’s pet, who you’ll hear more about in the future.

NOTE: You can order both the Chibi-Chara Figures and the Snappies by adding $100 to your pledge, if you’re a figure aficionado.

Message from the Lost Ruins Team
Thanks to all of your amazing support, both in pledges and by helping raise awareness through your social media cooperation, Lost Ruins was able to not only clear its minimum goal, but smash through it’s next two goals as well! This is the true power of hundreds of backer heroes coming together!

Altari Games wanted to send along a message as a thank you for the incredibly warm support.

“Thank you so much for all Eiyuden Chronicle backers for supporting our little indie game! We never dreamed that when we launched this Kickstarter that we’d get the support of so many amazing backers so quickly! Not only did we hit our minimum goal, but we even hit our stretch goal to release the game on consoles! Thank you to the Eiyuden Chronicle Kickstarter and their backers for the help in making Lost Ruins a reality!”

If you want to follow the Lost Ruins campaign progress, you can check it out here.

We’ll be doing another Kickstarter indie spotlight this Friday. If you have a game that needs a little extra awareness, or needs to get over that tough minimum goal, be sure to tweet out a link to the Kickstarter with the hashtags #100heroesstrong and #KickstarterSpotlight.

Shout out to Suikoden Revival Movement
So far, this campaign has received a lot of support from all over the internet, and many fan communities have sprung up on great websites, Discord servers, and other social media platforms around the world. However, we can certainly say that without the amazing passion from the people at the Suikoden Revival Movement, we wouldn’t have nearly the momentum that we’re enjoying right now.

While there are many passionate individuals there, we wanted to give a special thanks to Chris H., Vextor, and Yuichi. If you haven’t had a chance to, please be sure to check out their Twitter.

Character Battle Update

If you’ve been following the Eiyuden Chronicles Character Battle that raged this weekend on the official Twitter, you know that we have reached the finals. If you haven’t, swing on over to the official Twitter account, so your voice can be heard! As stated on the main page, diversity is a key theme of this game. We’ve seen some people afraid that that could mean Murayama-san will compromise his vision, but one of the best things about having 105 characters (at the time of this update) is that he can realize his vision while still having an amazingly diverse cast of heroes. The different Character Battle results for Japanese speaking backers vs. English speaking backers illustrate this point rather nicely.

"Diversity is a key theme of the game".

The Japanese understanding of Diversity is very different from the Kwanzaanian roach's understanding of diversity. It is also a lot closer to the actual meaning of the word. This doesn't have to mean much at all.

And that is how shit gets censored/modified.
Original definition will clash with the western definition and will change to the western value because their pr will tell em to do that. They should have just avoided any sjw words entirely.
Using that word is like cutting yourself above a pool of sharks,it won't end well.

Well, just look at picture. Japanese - people from different cultures. Westerners - BLACK WOMMYNZ! FURRIES!

Yes, Japanese diversity goes deeper and means taking influence from cultures all across the globe. Western diversity is nothing but skin deep. Good example is the Xcom cast with the telling strength in Diversity quote.

capsule_616x353.jpg

Not a single white man in the group, only one white person at all, and it's a Japanese woman. Western diversity is about revenge and retribution for white colonialism and imperialism, eastern diversity is about ... actual diversity.

Sounds like fear mongering to me. The Japanese have stayed surprisingly based up to now, the only cases where catering happened where initiated by the western departments of the company. But time will tell.

Rules to live or die by for the creators:

1. No pandering

2. No political correctness

3. No self censorship

You are the programmers and creators of the golden age of gaming. Do what you do best and improve on it. We are counting on you!

Rabbit & Bear StudiosCreator
Agreed to all. But in additional, let's be inclusive where we can. We have 104 characters to work with. If we can respect all the above rules... but still give someone there own hero to latch on to... why not. We all need a hero. And you backers are OUR HEROES.

This is taken from the Comments section of the Kickstarter, with whoever's handling the Dev comments responding. Make of it what you will.

I'm just hoping they take influence from Suikoden 3 for combat more tham the rest of the series, and allow for positioningnto matter.

hmm their stretch goals are done with a relatively small amount of money required for each level

like localization, it is usually a rather expensive goal that other KS would require another 50 - 100k USD per language but this game put them at around 25k each

and then a lot of new mini-game system being put at 25 - 50k USD as well

I guess they are making that much money that they are confident that it would be enough to implement the stretch goals.

Perhaps all of these ware things that would be implemented in the game even if they received minimal backing, but they put them as stretch-goals anyway. After all nobody will criticize them for implementing a stretch-goal that wasn't reached. so it's completely safe.

Fishing and trading minigames are back
Architect’s Office #3 - Minigames

※日本語のアップデートは下の方にあります。

Hey everyone!

It’s Monday, which means it’s another jaunt over to the Architect’s Office for a spotlight on game systems. This week, we’re taking a look at the different minigames we’ve unlocked throughout the campaign. It’s sure to be a good one!

We have a lot of ground to cover in today’s update, so let’s get started!

Let’s start with an exciting reveal!

Fan Chosen Stretch Goal
Although we traditionally only reveal the next two stretch goals, because the 3.125 Million goal is very special, we’ve decided to reveal it in this update. We mentioned this campaign having a lot of backer and fan participation, and now is the opportunity for us to make good on that promise. This goal will be the 9th character to join the crew, bringing the total number of heroes to 109.

We know that #108 is significant for many reasons, so we’d like to have Murayama-san explain this design choice in his own words:

“Our 108th hero has been born through a new stretch goal. The number 108 is certainly a special number for many people, myself included.

However, that is a number that holds special value for the Genso Suikoden series and we want to show our respect for what that series means by finding our own number and moving forward to something new.

To symbolize that we would like to create the 109th character in the game by allowing the fans to choose between multiple character design sketches that Junko Kawano has created.

It’s my hope that this is a very important evolutionary step forward that we can take with the help of all our passionate fans.”

To that end, the visual design of character 109 will be chosen through a poll on the Eiyuden Discord. Voting will begin Friday 21st at 12 Noon ET (9 am PT). We will be showing off each of the four possible character designs on different platforms: The official Eiyuden Twitter, the official Facebook page, the official Instagram, and the unofficial /r/Eiyuden subreddit, which has been gracious enough to allow us to post the designs there.

We’ll be posting these at random times this week, so keep your eyes peeled, and feel free to collect and share notes with other fans!

The poll will last for exactly 24 hours. May the best design win!

Minigame Explanation
The world of Eiyuden Chronicle is filled with exciting minigames to take your mind off the war that rages across the land. Whether you’re looking to become the very best, or just looking for a diversion, there’s plenty to do!

Fishing

Once the player reaches a certain point in the game, they will meet a hero who knows how to fish, thus allowing them to access the fishing game. There are many different fishing spots all over Allraan, each featuring different fish. You'll even find some bizarre fish with human faces.

Successfully catching lots of fish will require skill not just as a gamer, but knowledge in terms of selecting the right bait for the fish, and acquiring better fishing rods. Fish you catch can be made into cooking ingredients or sold for high prices.

The fortress town will also eventually acquire strange fishing spots that contain fish from all over the world.

Beigoma

In Allraan, beigoma has been popular with people of all ages for a long time. Shops in town sell beigoma starter kits, customization kits, and other various beigoma-related merchandise.

When you start playing beigoma, various other beigoma players will challenge you to duels. Skill tournaments will also be held. You'll meet up with famous beigoma players, learn different skills, and gain many different opportunities to prove to the world that you're the best beigoma player there is.

Trading

Merchants in Allraan travel across political borders to do business, and the player can also acquire trading goods at various trading posts in towns and villages. The price of each trading good will change depending on the time and place. Buying low and selling high can help make your adventure go much more smoothly!

Once you acquire the fortress town and find some heroes with a knack for trading, you can open a trading post in your own town.

Eggleg Racing

Eggleg races provide another source of entertainment in Allraan. Races are held in large towns, and lots of people gamble on the eggleg they think will win. Players can also take part in the gambling.

Once you acquire a fortress town and find an eggleg trainer, you'll be able to raise and breed your own egglegs, then send them out to race.

Eggleg Trainer

Once you acquire the fortess town and find an eggleg trainer, you'll be able to raise your own egglegs. Egglegs can be found on your adventure or bought directly from breeders.

Aside from raising and breeding your egglegs, you can also send them out to races. If you raise up a talented eggleg and it wins a lot of races, you'll become world-famous as a talented trainer (and earn tons of prize money, of course).

New Premium Rewards
As this is a Monday, we have a new Premium Reward to unveil! You’ve all wondered what an eggleg is. Here’s your chance to name a rival eggleg that will no doubt cause other players plenty of grief on the race track.

Hatch-It Job

565d0d779a1a0c804ba022669c6fc098_original.png

Eggleg racing is a beloved pastime in the world of Allraan, famous for its intense competition. This is your chance to leave your mark on the sport. With this reward, you’ll be able to name one of the rival egglegs players will encounter during their racing career.

Renewed Premium Rewards

Since the Beigoma Trainer premium reward has run out, we’re re-upping it for another five chances, unfortunately without the early bird discount.

New Add-Ons
After talking with the key creators, as well as our merchandising partner, we are happy to let you know that you have been heard. We will be providing a cloth world map as a new add-on. This will be the perfect add-on for the directionally impaired.

To purchase a cloth map, add an additional $25 (2750 yen) to any pledge tier. Again, we apologize for any inconvenience caused by doing add-ons this way. The current add-ons are as follows:

b091f6a169436b7ce5810ca5418d53b4_original.png

Major Upgrades to Rewards
Since the start of our campaign, a number of things have changed and improved. Some of it has been your hard work on smashing through social goals in Rebuilding the Town. Here is a quick round-up of major changes to the rewards:

  • The Sigil Button reward will now ship with 7 buttons instead of the original 1.
  • The artbook will be 108 pages, and ship in hard cover!
  • The CD Soundtrack now comes on two discs, and will be accompanied by a Sound Effect and Remix album!
  • The Vinyl Album will now ship with a second LP!
That’s a lot of extra value for backers! If you’re still unsure on what tier you’d like to pledge at, perhaps these new additions to the reward tiers will help you make that tough decision!

Figure Prototype Test Print
Speaking of which, one of the Premium Rewards is the figure set, and in keeping with our theme of transparency, we wanted to provide this very early test print video from HIVE. While the video is extremely early, and in no way reflective of final quality, we wanted to share this very early step in the creation process as a behind-the-scenes look of how these figures will be created.

Special In-Game Scene Reveal
We’ve had a lot of backers ask to see more in-game footage. While we normally hold our cards close to our chest, this is something that’s worth getting excited about. While it will only be a minor peek, we feel it will make a lot of people happy. Make sure you tune-in to the Friday update for more!

Second Discord AMA
In keeping with the theme of working together to choose the best character design, there’s no better person than to have Junko Kawano answering your questions directly. She will also be joined by Osamu Komuta, Junichi Murakami, and Yoshitaka Murayama might even be lurking in the Discord shadows (however, Murayama-san wants this to be focused on the other creators, so let’s give them the spotlight).

The AMA will be on the official Discord server, which you can join by clicking here. It starts Saturday August 22nd, 12 Noon ET (9am PT). We will set up a special AMA channel for participants to drop their questions in. Because we expect a high volume of questions, we will engage slow mode in the Discord channel, and limit participants to one question every five minutes. This will keep everything manageable for moderators.

Another Dream Fulfilled!
Thanks to your support, Residual has been funded. This is the third Kickstarter you’ve helped fund, and they’re greatly appreciative. Your incredible support has helped all of these teams make the games of their dreams, and all of us could not be more thankful.

We know that there are concerns that the creators are not making the game they want. We want to make it very clear that they want to follow their vision, but they also want to collaborate with backers to choose select pieces of the game’s design. This careful balance is actually a lot of fun for the whole team, and one of the key reasons we decided to bring the project to Kickstarter in the first place.

Phew! That was quite the update! Thanks for sticking with us through the whole thing. Onwards and upwards!

Painter’s Easel #3 - Gocteau & Iris

※日本語のアップデートは下の方にあります。

Hey everyone,

We’re still reeling from the intense Monday update, but Kickstarter waits for no one! We’ve got another meaty update for all you, starting with this week’s Character Spotlight. This time, we’re focusing on the most recently unlocked characters on the Kickstarter campaign: Gocteau and Iris.

Character Spotlight
Gocteau

f807162abc95082123ffeb502e881356_original.png

PROFESSION: Guild leader

FAVORITE FOOD: Steak topped with plenty of garlic

An influential leader of several guilds. That grin of his seems amiable enough, but this is a man who has been through hell, more times than one. When trouble goes down, Gocteau gets a look in his eye that scares the pants off the younger guildsmen.

He loves to gamble, but rarely wins.

QUOTE:

"Heaven hadn't even shat you down to earth yet when I started working this business. So do us all a favor, clam it, and watch a master ply his trade."

Gocteau certainly sounds like an experienced fellow! He could make for a very useful ally!

Iris

cac6c330350d77e1e00c438535ea5ed3_original.png

HOME: The University of Carles

FAVORITE FOOD: Black tea, and biscuits to go with it

An architect who graduated from the League of Nation's prestigious University of Carles. She's usually quite pleasant to chat with, but when it comes to her trade, she can't shut up. Mention the word "gables" and you're in for an hour-long ode to the perfect slope—and don't even get her started about gambrels!

QUOTE:

"Oh, hello there! Come in, don't be shy. This is a happy space! That's what they pay me to build. I know, I live a charmed life."

No question, an architect could certainly come in handy when building a whole town!

Music Spotlight
While Painter’s Easel is all about characters, in this particular update, we’d also like to focus on music. To that end, we’ve got comments from both Motoi Sakuraba and Michiko Naruke about being able to work on the project.

Motoi Sakuraba

I'm very honored to be able to be a part of this project, which is filled with the hopes and high expectations of those who have supported me and have such amazing passion for the development team. I'm looking forward to composing great music for this game and I hope to create something that will resonate with you all!

Michiko Naruke

Hi, it's nice to meet you, or to many of you, it's been a while. My name is Michiko Naruke, and I'm a composer on Eiyuden Chronicles.

When I saw the names of the creative staff who asked me to participate in the production of this game, I had to catch my breath, because those were the names of people that I had always looked up to and hoped of working with someday.

A lot of things went through my mind at lightning speed. ("Are they seriously going to offer this job to a bumbling goofball like me? I mean I'm not exactly a hip, fresh composer...") But then, I made up my mind, and thought to myself, "I have to do this!"

To be honest, I was thinking that I might never have another chance to be involved in making a JRPG again.

As I'm writing this, I'm suddenly reminded of the first time I got a job for Wild Arms, and I thought, "This is surely going to be the last time I'll ever get a job like this."

More than 20 years have passed since then... In the ever-evolving game industry, I've been struggling with the difficulty of continuing to work, but I'm still fighting the battle somehow.

I've been supported by my friends and predecessors, who talked with me to the hilt and sometimes gave me harsh words of encouragement, as well as by the many fans, who have always supported our production and given me well-chosen words of encouragement. Without them, I probably wouldn't have been able to continue.

Through the Kickstarter system, we've been able to get a strong sense of how many of you have come to love JRPGs.

Once again, I'd like to thank everyone who supported us in our efforts to make this game possible.

I'm a bit overwhelmed by just how high the expectations are, but I'll keep on trying (P-please root for me...).

I'm going to cherish the feeling I've been having, of making another JRPG, at every point in my life, and I'm looking forward to working with the wonderful production team.

Wish us luck!

And, last but not least...

Now in 2020, at this difficult time in the world, I'm sure there are many people who are finding it difficult to live their normal lives for a variety of reasons, including illnesses and disasters.

Some of you may be reading this from places other than your home.

Some day in the not-too-distant future, I hope you’ll be happy and through Eiyuden Chronicle, our music will connect to more of that happiness.

We’ll be hard at work in our various offices and homes doing our best to make music that you will fully enjoy.

Hopefully during difficult times, you can remember how hard we are working and that can bring you a little bit of joy.

Let's go through this together.

Ending Theme, Featuring You!
As you’ve seen, this week we unveiled our first fan participation selection via the ongoing Character 109 Backer Vote. We’re not done, though! When Murayama-san said one of his core reasons for coming to Kickstarter was to collaborate with his fans, he meant it.

Here’s a message from Murayama-san himself:

“Thank you for sending so many requests and ideas for Eiyuden Chronicle. We've decided to take those great ideas and turn them into an exciting event.”

To that end, we are happy to announce that we will be looking to gather a sample of a single phrase from the song, sung by our backers, that will later be edited into the game’s Ending Theme. We know some people might be skeptical about this, but we ask you to have faith in our ability as creators to not only choose the right voices, but to masterfully...FIX IT IN POST!

All joking aside, this is something we really want to do with the backers. We are currently discussing how to make this happen with the two composers who have agreed to participate in the project, Mr. Motoi Sakuraba and Ms. Michiko Naruke.

This is something symbolic of not only the fact that this game exists because of the backers, but also the diversity that we are focused on. After all, “You Are the World!”

Another Story: Marisa DLC
We mentioned that there would be FREE backer DLC. We finally hit the budgetary threshold to be able to provide that. At the 3.25 Million Dollar stretch goal, backers will be entitled to receive the Another Story: Marisa DLC. This content pack will contain a 5-10 hour adventure featuring one of the central characters to the story. You will get to see the world of Allraan and its many problems through her eyes.

Hopefully, this will be one great advantage that you will get for having faith in the project, and for being a backer. Courage should be rewarded!

Closing Stream
While it’s not set in stone, we are considering the idea of doing a closing stream during the last 4 hours of the campaign. The goal would be for this to be a celebration of how far we’ve gotten, as well as to get to know the key creators better. We have one problem though: we don’t know what you would like to see on the stream.

  • Do you want to see Murayama-san eat curry out of his pot helmet?
  • Would you like to see all four creators have an artist’s draw-off to see who can make the best Human-Faced Fish?
  • Should we ask them trivia questions?
The point is, we don’t know, and we’re looking for any suggestions you may have. Post your suggestions in the comments section for this update.

Much as we know you may want it, there’s one thing we cannot do, and that is stream previous titles that the creators have worked on. Thank you for understanding.

How to Pronounce “Eiyuden”
Because we know foreign languages can be difficult, we put together this short video to help you to take your first step into proper Japanese pronunciation. And what better way to do it than with the name of your soon to be favorite game? EIYUDEN!!

Thespian’s Stage #4 - Murakami Interview

※日本語のアップデートは下の方にあります

Hey everyone,

It’s the end of the week, which means we’re back with another fearsome update! This week for Thespian’s Stage, we’re interviewing the ever-evasive Junichi Murakami. Sweet! We also have a little surprise that all of you have been patiently waiting for. It’s going to be a doozy of an update!

Let’s get to it!

Moving Up the Ranks
Eiyuden Chronicle continues to push forward through the ranks of video game Kickstarter history, by becoming the 7th most funded video game campaign of all time! That’s without a major first party press conference. That’s with so many people being negative about crowdfunding campaigns. That’s in 2020!

Thanks again, all of you brave backers for choosing to have hope instead of doubt. You’ve helped make our creators’ dreams come true (and you’re getting FREE DLC to boot!).

Murakami Interview
This week’s interview is with Junichi Murakami, Producer and Art Director on Eiyuden Chronicle. We chat with him about his past working with Koji Igarashi, what it’s like working with the Eiyuden team for the first time, and more!

Enjoy!

Unfortunately, Murakami-san won’t be able to attend the Discord AMA this weekend, but if we do hold a final AMA, leave it to us. If he doesn’t attend, he’ll know the Aria of Sorrow firsthand!

Obsidian Comes to the Rescue
Much as it was great to have Warren Spector share his thoughts on Eiyuden, it was wonderful to see yet another East/West collaboration with Obsidian pledging to the Kickstarter campaign. Obsidian, of course, is well known for developing some of the best RPGs ever made, including the Kickstarter funded Pillars of Eternity.

A hearty “Thank You So Much!” to all the wonderful people at Obsidian for supporting our journey!

Backer Vote Update
As you have seen by now, we’ve revealed all four character designs for Character 109. Just in case you are not on social media and missed them, here’s a second look at each choice.

The poll will begin on the Eiyuden Discord in the #Polls channel in the Community section, starting today at Noon ET/9am PT/4pm UTC. The poll will run for 24 hours. If there is absolutely no way you can participate via Discord, send us a direct message on Kickstarter with your selection.

If you haven’t joined the Discord, you can do so by clicking here.

May the best monster win!

Sneak Peek Video #1
We teased it last update, and we know you’ve all been hankering for it. Without further delay, here’s our first Sneak Peek Video, revealing a much-requested battle system mechanic!

One of the things we will attempt to do after the Kickstarter is over, throughout the production is to occasionally upload a sneak peek video of different parts of gameplay. As you can see, oftentimes these will be merely 5-10 seconds of footage. You may notice that the footage takes place in the same area as the screenshot found in the “Celebrating the JRPG” section of the campaign page. Because of the crispness of the image, some of you may have thought that was a mock-up or a target screenshot. As you can see from the footage, that was in fact actual in-engine gameplay!

Naturally, all of this is still very early prototype footage. There will be many adjustments made, including potentially User Interface overhauls, adding names of attacks, and character animations. This is merely to keep you in the know when it comes to what progress is being made. We know there are a lot of people that have their doubts about Kickstarter. We plan to prove them wrong through hard work, experienced developers, and maximum transparency. That being said, we don’t want to spoil the game, so these will largely be quick looks.

AMA Reminder
Don’t forget that the Developer Discord AMA, featuring Kawano-san, Komuta-san, and the ever-stealthy Murayama-san, will take place on Saturday August 22nd, Noon EST/9am PST/7pm UTC.

7 days left on the Kickstarter.

This is honestly the most Suikoden thing I've seen in years.

It's A or D for me. Classical vampire definitely reminds me of Neclord from Suikoden I & II.
