The devs delivered an unfinished game with broken systems and UX issues. Even if the first third of the game is really good, it's not worth buying. I'm pretty sure a codex review would be fairly negative, it's more forgiving not to have any.

Just started in Chapter 1, cleaned out picnic zone and reached junktown and having fun with it. There are a couple minor issues, sure. Too much junk to steal and loot, very basic combat that's easy to abuse with hide, take a couple potshots and re-hide, annoying stamina system, poor build variety that technically is there but there is one super obvious optimal renaissance with 9cha 9per build and any small deviation from it feels really bad, but to me personally all those are all small nitpicks. I don't have to micromanage an annoying crusade, I don't have to deal with a party of annoying losers and their stupid issues, I can just travel a wasteland, solve some quests, steal some loot, shoot some radiated roaches and rats, all in all a good time. Not even going to be mad if it abruptly drops halfway as insinuated.

I must admit I got carried away with reviewing the whole of the game as a total blast of an isometric RPG. This here from Infinitron / GameBanshee is more accurate. Though still, 20-30 initial hours of being able to delve in the complex post-apo world with many options how to approach one situation was really neat.

Quite a faggy review, to be honest. They must've fixed UI otherwise I've no idea what it's doing at "pros" (description doesn't even mention crafting though). And look at the "cons" > rating: very good, wut? "Decreased content in the 2nd half", lmao.

It is decent at best and that is if you are generous. Objectively it is closer to average. This game is probably the biggest disappointment of the year. It screams "wasted potential".

    My review:
Slightly better version of Lionheart, the game all codexians wished was good but fate mock us with unrelenting cruelty.

I'm waiting to play this as it sounds like they may improve the 2nd act and I'd rather not ruin the experience by playing it right now.

Game's pretty good first 10-20 hrs. Story, dialogues can be fun and they are quite original. Exploring is meaningful, quests / locations do have different approaches, builds can be different. What more do you want from an RPG, huh. I think you and others just hate too much.

But I must agree it does start to feel emptyish, vague, really very easy, no proper AI, over-the-board looting etc. after some time. And it gets boring and tedious due to these :(

In other words, basically what everyone feared happened, 90% of the content went in the first 30% of the game. I can't say it's a surprise, even if it is a disappointment, because the game had potential.

Are you for real? As far as I remember, you're Fallout fanboi central. Imagine now if there would be Hub with all its content but after the initial water chip quest, beyond Hub, you'd be left with just a few fetch-quests and then - credits? How does any of the aforementioned "pros" like build, approach to stuff etc matters if that's only relevant for 40-50% of the game and we're talking real % here, not how it "should've been", "could be there potentially" or anything. Gameplay hours (what a fascinating metric, which you've brought as well but bear with me for a second) are stack with the help of useless mechanics such as survival stuff/cooldowns for stealing/sneaking and the absolute schizo-approach to loot. The only reason that anyone can claim this is actually a good speciment is the overall dryness for this kind of games. Or severe case of retardation.

I'd feel really bad, yes. But the alegory presented is overbearing nearly as much as loot in Encased is over-the-board.

I would say concord + Magellan stations are worth seeing on a heavy discount. Definitely not worth the $30 I paid.

CadmusLabs has been (not so) oddly absent from the thread since the game released. Come and answer for your sins, cur!

This is disappointing, along with the outer worlds. At least we still have atom.

Yes, I didn't follow the development so it was kind of mind blowing to learn that the Magellan station used to be the tutorial and starting zone.

I don't think waiting would help at all. If you don't like it now, you wont like it in two years from now. The issues Encased has can't be fixed by adding a couple of quests to the second half, they would need to redesign most of their systems. I liked Encased more than most games released this year, certainly more that pathfinder or solasta, but yet that game has many issues, and most of them can't be easily fixed. Ideally they spend 2-3 months on some bugfixes and then move onto the next game. Adding a quest or two won't significantly improve this one.

That's key. If your catalog is played out, it's not a bad time and worth a play on sale.

Bug fixes are fine, and a few extra random encounters aren't the end of the world, but the team spending effort on Halloween events and Arena mode aren't promising. I find 'QoL improvements' to frequently mean 'rearranging deck chairs'.
