Also, what kind of ultra-millennial turbocuck do you have to be to watch SOMEONE ELSE play vidya games?

That's like watching someone watch a movie. Or watching someone read a book.

Teach em from a young age, and you can make someone believe anything is normal.

Or get this. It's like watching someone else play football or hockey. Crazy, right? Who on earth would ever do such a thing?

It's still super impressive how he managed to pull that shit off.
1 pixel of health + plus the tournament pressure but the beast still managed to perform 15 perfect blocks.
What a fucking legend.

One of the few other matches in a figthing game that I still find entertaining to watch is Majin vs JCDR at EVO 2018:

It's not very good in the beggining specially because Majin gets beat up, but then by the 2nd battle starts and shit gets real.

fighting sports need strict rules to be interesting, that's why boxe will always rule and ufc is for drooling rednecks. first of all boxe makes us focus on the upper body, fewer moving parts to follow, this might limit the possibilities but enhances the guesswork of the watcher to be likely, knowing even just barely two boxeurs you can sort of predict how the fight will develop and confronting reality with your imagination is part of the fun. in ufc you watch two monkeys in a cage, then something too sudden to notice happened and one of them is hammering the face of the other one who's unconscious on the ground. so much fun.
ok boomer

there are rules adn they're not superhumanly fast warriors, you're just not interested in it so you don't bother keeping up with the fight.

I assume it's like watching soap operas. Once they saw the first episode, some people can't stop. They want to know "what happens next" and thereby waste thousands of hours of lifetime.

Ok I mean, I watch football and that's basically the same thing, you only want to know how the next match ends. But I still find it a bit more sensible than watching disturbed manchildren of which 1/4 commit suidice before they're 30.

Finally, an article that makes the case it is the UFC that will be experiencing struggles to maintain market share in the coming years, not boxing. Take with a fistful of salt, but it does make some salient points and cites some interesting figures https://www.thestar.com/sports/2018/02/15/ufc-isnt-killing-boxing-its-using-boxing-to-survive.html#:~:text=Contrary to public perception, boxing,49-year-old demographic.&text=“That's unprecedented in all of,20 years as a manager.

Agree with your post, but also wanted to point out that I'm of the people talked about that has lost interest in the UFC and my main reason is the prevalence of female UFC fighting and the increased air-time and promotion it gets; I feel virulent disgust when that is brought up and it makes me not want to watch any UFC materials.

There is just something about promoting female fighters in the same breath as the male ones that equalizes and cheapens it; it makes it seem like it's a Participation Award combat sport where everyone can get a medal if they just participate, and that's really cheap and lessens the overall philosophical impact of the UFC.

I'm not even talking about ideological differences here, I just see ugly Orcish women being promoted and given space that should belong to real fighters and I just immediately lose interest. Of course, this is from my perspective, which is that of a CASUAL normie fan with only a passing interest in combat sports, but people like me make up the bulk of the viewership. Not everyone is as autistic about le ugly women punching each other, I'm sure, but I'm just citing my own personal turn-off.

I like lols esports. They gave me lots of pleasures. I don't think watching esports is in any way less productive than watching "analog" sports.

The title is weird though. I'm not going to read it, but at the time when I was following the scene "the growth" was rather theoretical. The impressive numbers were achived in 2014/15 and then stagnated, or started to drop, while the costs grew and grew. It was a bubble waiting to burst. The reason it kept going was, other than the POTENTIAL profitibility, the fact that it was a good advertisment for the game which made, and still does make, billions.

Yep. Can't say I care anymore. But if someone does, I certainly uderstand. I prefer to watch occasional track and field at the moment, but you do you.

and for one of these videos you have YEARS of footage about abusing just ONE SINGLE ALWAYS THE SAME juggle. so much fun.

edit: sorry, apologizes, i took for granted it was some sort of grandiose show but i gave it a look and instead it's exactly about abusing just one single always the same juggle.

Games are a simulation (of war, of playing football, of shooting demons, whatever).

Watching football is already the equivalent of playing a game. You're already a level removed from the real thing. You can watch football or you can play FIFA, neither are actually playing football.

You cannot have a game about someone playing games. Watching someone playing a vidyagaem is like watching someone else watch football. It's straight up retarded.

Playing football is a form of recreation. Playing video games is a form of recreation. Some people are really good at football and people pay to watch them do it. Some people are really good at video games and people pay to watch them do it.

I'll take it a step further. Some people are really good chefs, and they get paid to produce cooking shows. People tune in and watch those cooking shows, because seeing someone excel at something is interesting.

They're playing a game and I'm watching them. Doesn't matter what game it is. It might be football, it might be starcraft, it might be darts.

Don't try to appear like you have a point with your Inception bullshit.

You're just a retard faggot. I'm sorry I have to be the one to break it to you. Watching niggers in tights pummel each other isn't any more legit than watching Koreans APM each other.

Wow, what a comeback. Clearly you have proven me wrong.

And what kind of strange Korean fetish porn you get off to with your boyfriend really isn't my concern. Just keep it to yourself, weirdo.

Ths is just retarded. Watching a gaggle of noodle-armed bumblefucks clicking around isn’t even comparable. Not even an apples/oranges thing.

If it is okay to spend 5h on a sunday afternoon watching which engineering team cheated against the official rules the most effective (a.k.a. formula one) and call that a sport, I'm totally fine with people watching kids playing video games on a competitive level and call it a sport, too.

No, that's not OK either.

Formula 1 used the same bullshit slippery slope argument that these nerds are using now.

Back then people like you said, LUL CONSPIRACY THEORIES MUH SLIPPERY SLOEP!!!

Well, the slope stops here. Driving a car is on the very limits. It's where the slope stops. They stepped over the line when they turned into Josh Sawyer with MUH BALANCE where every car has to be the same and every driver has to weigh the same and added QTE's.

TV gaems and chess are not sports. fuck you, your post-modernism and the old bearded German man you rode in on

Then you’re an idiot because neither one of those are sports.
