Have I got a treat for you retrogamers! If Ambermoon wasn't popular enough here comes another RPG for you to play that's not only a good game but it has a bit of a history behind it as well. Welcome to Evil's Doom, one of the last "big" Amiga games; a classic dungeon crawler made by Croatian developers Olympia Entertainment Group that was never officially released

The final, commercially unreleased, game (v1.8) has been around for sometime now. http://thecompany.pl/ has had it as a standalone executable. I was toying with the idea to make a Let's play, but it was too much work and anyway I got stuck at some dungeon and dropped it. IIRC it had a couple of peculiar dungeon mechanics, though I can't actually remember what they were :/

The main character is basically Conan :) At the beginnig it looks more open with various overworld hub areas, but it's a pure dungeon crawler. It has some c&c(?) though, as it seems there are a lot of potential party members, which can be recruited only if you say (or do) the right things. Half of the people you talk to at the beginning can probably be recruited.

It's one of those games that got caught in the Amiga meltdown in late nineties and never got released. OnEscapee (a great flashback clone) and Wasted Dreams (Adventure) had a similar fate.

True, although there hasn't been a proper "Amiga HD" install version available until now, there was one on dosgaming but it just never worked right. I tried it myself and it meant editing of the start up file or messing around with hex editing, it never really worked. The article atleast contains a multitude of versions... For nostalgic sake I prefer the real Amiga install, but the.company version is the easiest

The Company have stopped doing game releases for the time being while they work on a new way of implementing multiplayer through single exes. So if you both have the same exe you can play with each other in a non sexual way ;)

I was about to try this but then I read real-time and Dungeon-Master like and unfortunately I'm a Turn-Based Master Race supremacist.

Thing is though, most download links on the webpage takes me on a loop around to some filesharer page, then nothing else.

Cool, didn't know that game yet, will try. Looks neat, even tho I'd prefer it to be turn based ;)

Well, a buggy beta version has been around since the late 90's, but this seems to be a fixed updated version?

Yeh, seems that way. Also Kaspersky detected it as malware and instantly deleted it after downloading :gumpyhead:

I wish they would rather work on unreleased RPG exclusives like Ambermoon and
Perihelion first

Here's a direct link that should work: http://thecompany.pl/download/34/1

That's the one I DLed but kaspersky doesn't like it. And I have no idea how to put an executable into an exception list or something ^^'

Also who knows, maybe kaspersky is right? :P

Huh, doesn't Kaspersky give you an option to decide what to do with the file ? Stop being popamole and check the settings, you shouldn't leave those things free reign anyway. And don't worry about the file, most AVs give you a warning with Amiga executables.

BTW be sure to get the game's manual.

Alright now Kaspersky is fine with it but when I try to execute the file the mouse cursor shows that "loading" circle shortly and then... nothing happens. Maybe it doesn't run with Windows 8.1? I tried compatibility mode and ran it as admin but nothing really worked :(

Small but great planet of Potatohole
Great graphics (for Amiga) but poor writing - not sure if caused by translation or it is how the original game is (made by some Croatians i think ?). Silly characters but i like the fact that the main character is a generique Conan type hero and not some even more generic post-tolkienesque/D&D/gay elf/paladin/etc... type. Can't say much about gameplay, didn't play for long, have a lot of games to play and real time/first person gameplay is not usually my thing. Interface is clunky.
