The Expeditions: Viking crew are at Gamescom this week, and today they managed to grab a 15 minute slot on Twitch's broadcasting schedule. Presenting the game was Teemo Ashton, Logic Artists' community manager, a charismatic fellow who managed to handily dominate Twitch's obnoxious hosts. He had time to show about ten minutes of gameplay footage, while explaining the details of the game's historical background and describing some of its interesting features and quests. I'm particularly impressed by the ability to engage in non-lethal combat, with appropriately different quest outcomes, as well as the possibility to lose any battle and have the game go on, with appropriate consequences. Here's the archived stream:

I have to say, Expeditions: Viking looks better and better every time I see it. The Logic Artists have emerged somewhat unexpectedly as a potential top tier RPG developer, and more people ought to be paying attention. The game has a Steam page now, so update your wishlists.

Indeed.

"It's almost Fallout'y" - quickly adds "the old ones".

I was sad that Expeditions Conquistador had poor sales since I enjoyed it a lot and saw lots of potential for future games. Im happy to see they are surpassing my expectations and that its turning into a great game.

I'm so excited to play this game! I really hope it starts getting some more recognition in the coming months. It looks like they have made all the changes they needed to make to their Expeditions formula.

Also, this game really deserves a thread in General RPG Discussion. I feel like a large portion of the codex has no idea about this game.

When I heard that they wanted to switch from an interesting scenario to Vikings again *yawn*, I put it at the end of my wishlist, but now, I'm really looking forward to it.

Looks great. Can't wait to get my hands on it.

And can't wait to see what setting is next after Viking.

Althought i don't like the nordic\viking setting, i'll buy the game for sure, i want to support every developer investing in TB pc games.

There are so few recent Tb out there that we need to promote this genre

Sounds and looks much improved from Conquistadors.

I bet Sawyer is jealous, Mr. I-want-to-make-a-historical-RPG.

Hell yeah, i won't give any judgement about the game, but impressive to see how these guys seem to pretty much have it all figured out.

:twitch:

That aside, the video was absolutely great. Cool to hear they're keeping the whole "lose-battles-and-continue" thing.

Remember when everyone was excited about Conquistador and it turned out being uterly Mediocre...
Conquistador did a fuckton of cool things. It's main problem was lack of interesting character customization, and it looks like they've fully addressed that.

Well, and I hope they've rebalanced the wound/disease/starvation death spiral system.

Reserving judgement until actually playing, and it not trying to fry my GPU.
And then we got POE. Turned out that Conquistador was not so bad after all.
