No, what would be cool is if they dropped the whole idea and hired actual writers to come up with a story.
No good writer will ever agree to write a story for computer game set in FR. Besides, games need designers with literary skills, not writes. And among designers Chris Avellon is one of the best. (I'm not exactly sure about Feargus, though.) What we really need is publishers who are willing to pay for original stand-alone RPGs.

This is why Bioware's approach to Dragon Age holds promise. 4 full-time writers working in conjunction with the designers, or something like that. No matter the end result, this is heading in the right direction.

Many of Bioware's games have had multiple writers. They are just designers who don't focus on technical aspects. David Gaider (and Avellone at Obsidian) is such a designer.

I just played Arcanum a little to see if I knew what I was talking about. I didn't. You can get the Vendigroth Device before the main story leads you to it. You just have to know the coordinates. :oops: It seems I hadn't moved the mouse cursor to just the right place on the world map when I tried it earlier.

So is the game more non-linear because of this? Yes. But it's still quite railroaded because there's clearly a precise order in which the developers wanted the player to do things. It makes much more sense to go to the Black Mountain Mines after talking to Bates and learning why you need to go there.
