Is this trailer for fucking real? People in charge at Square Enix signed this off as appropriate to showcase their new Final Fantasy IP?

This has gotta be some sort of prank...
you see how all final fantasy games look since 2010 suddenly you're not surprised anymore.

I know its not a high bar, but this is a new level of cringe that has never been witnessed before.

well, gotta aim for something. if they can't reach quality, you can always go towards the bottom instead.

i am mainly mad because this will just delay nioh 3. my biggest hope is nioh in 3 kingdoms china era. . .

For a moment there I got excited because I misread it as Ninja Theory instead of Team Ninja and thought our boy Tameem was coming back.

I cannot believe what I saw in this trailer. They (Square) secured the help of one of the best companies for combat design, and still were able to mess it up, by giving writing and character design to a retarded monkey. It just blows my mind how this passed by 'acceptable' by whoever is in charge.

wow... the true power of next-gen consoles to make games that look like they're designed for the PS3...

reminded of that tech demo square enix released almost 10 years ago now that still looks better than any game they've actually released

Actually looks pretty fun to play. The mid combat job system looks real fun , combat seems good and the progression system doesn't seems the worst so far. Lowkey interested.

I turned on my ps5 for the first time in 3? months. Went through some updates and restarts. Downloaded the demo. And put the ps5 back to sleep. I don't make many decisions I'm proud of but this is one.

Hyped for people calling it a souls inspired game, expecting weighted combat where inertia plays a role, the trailer shows the typical japanese slash fest with lots of lighting and effects but no substance.

Goddamit japan, stop making shitty games.

the combat never once made me think of Dark Souls, I think only casuals got that impression. My mind went to a tamer version of Ninja Gaiden combat when watching it. It'll probably feel a lot different once I play it though. Yea I know it's decline but it could make for some good khantent so what the hell

I'm very into cock and ball torture
The demo gameplay linked genuinly looks really fun, viable magicians in a souls like game through charging ranged spells into the three Final Fantasy spells? Hell yeah.
Not gonna buy it tho, unless the main character is a misdirection and dies in the first hour of the game. The character and world design is too bad, that truly would be enabling the decline.

well I just finished it, the game is totally Dark Souls in terms of some of the mechanics; you lose your max MP when you die and there's bonfires and ladder shortcuts, shit like that. but the combat system is more like a fusion of Ninja Gaiden and Sekiro. The Ninja Gaiden stuff comes from the overall feel of the combat; those of you who have played Nioh might think it feels more like that. the loot system especially feels like what I've seen of Nioh's loot. I say Sekiro influences the combat a bit because there's an emphasis on parrying attacks and there's no penalty for dodging; also there's a 'break gauge' system where if you deplete a stamina gauge you can insta-kill the enemy or bring the boss down to the next stage. Teammates are useless and they require potions/Estus Flasks to revive, the only thing they do is draw attention away from you.

Hard mode turns the enemies into HP sponges, so it can be a bit tough but once you get access to mage it's relatively easy to kite them and it's actually better than a melee class especially because the mage can regenerate MP by charging a spell, which is pretty broken. You can have two classes set at a time so you can cycle between the two at will and any passive stat boosts you have on a class will be applied to the other class you have equipped as well. You can also unlock 'advanced jobs' further down the tree, i.e. swordsman turns into warrior, mage turns into black mage, but sometimes the advanced class can be worse than the original one. For example, the Black Mage gains access to Flare but loses the ability to regenerate MP while casting so that sucks ass; I suspect the optimal strat may be to have a Mage/Black Mage combo so you can get the benefits of regenerating MP by using the Mage but (if the game allows it) get the passive boosts of the BLM. Unless there's some sort of upgrade that I didn't see in the skill tree to regain that MP regen or some sort of gear later in the real game that gives MP regen boosts, that is.

The actual boss fight is...okay. He suffers from some of the same passive AI that the regular enemies do in that he can be easily kiteable, like he'll walk slowly towards you for half the battlefield while you spam Thundaga on him no problem, but he can also get aggressive at the drop of a hat. The second phase is thought out a bit better IMO because he gets really strong attacks but they can be mitigated by returning his Blaze to him or casting Fire. Oh, I didn't mention it but you can 'draw' certain attacks from enemies by parrying them and fling them back at said enemy, which can sometimes be really strong, sometimes pretty weak.

Overall, I'm sad to admit that I enjoyed the game's combat system and it kinda drew me in a bit more than I expected, but the story of the game and the characters and all that are still disgusting to me. I wish they'd just gone with an original premise rather than choosing to bastardize FF1. Sick fucks.

That looked absolutely terrible.

Agreed. Generic and overly designed characters, lame looking fighting system, the voices are bland, and the story doesn’t sound good. Not good.

It basically looks like Nioh without fluxing and with more active role for magic. Even some of the animations are the same (opening small chests by kicking them).

I'm sure you don't.

Starting with the fact that it's probably not a good idea to boast about anything involving wasting 500+ Dollars on a expensive piece of hardware and then using it as a fucking paperweight half the time.
