First time playing Risen

Is it only my impression, or PB is the laziest developer in the industry?

Seems like they are making the same game over and over again, fixing/adding some new stuff with each iteration.

Playing Risen for the first time is a huge fucking deja vu of playing G1 - seriously.

- starting butt naked on a stranded island (huge difference than part of land separated by magical barrier, yo), gathering shit lying around, like some rusty sword, healing potion etc,
- going on a railroad that will lead you to the first settlement, learning to adapt to clunky combat by killing some low lvl mob,
- picking dozens of dozens of herbs/mushrooms/other shit - you cannot walk for 10 seconds before your autoradar will lock you in on some lying consumables,
- same fucking factions, like bandits/mercenaries, mages, military/orderly types etc.
- each faction's camp is the same - you have to talk to everyone that has name, just in case he will give you a tiny quest, like bringing him something from the other side of the camp etc.

There's probably a lot more, but I'm only few hours in.

Since PB games were/are extremely popular in eastern Europe, I expect a lot of shit/retarded/etc ratings, but whatever - just needed to bitch about something.

Yeah these lazy fucks. They should learn from highly creative studios like Bethesda, From Software or Ubisoft how to not make same game over and over again. Why should we want another RPG like Gothic, market is flooded with them, everyone is making them!

Thread sucks, op is a faggot.

To be fair, the market is also not flooded with Bethesda like games. They do try making Souls clones but From Software is untouchable at what they do, they have refined the formula over the years and it shows.

I have been playing it recently too. Did a few quests in the swamp for the Don's men, didn't feel like meeting up with the Don, so left for Harbour Town and did a few general quests. However, on the subject of helping out one of either the robe people or the Don's men, I can't really make a decision because I don't think I know enough about either of them.

Nobody is actually addessing his concerns with the game...
Because deep down, majority of eastern europe fat basement dwellers, living on their parents allowance, that are refreshing this forum every 30 seconds, know that it's true - PB is making the same game over and over again.

I liked G1 when it came out, same with G2. But by today's standards they are terrible, unless you like playing tank simulator in fantasy setting. In Risen you actually move faster by jumping all the time, which looks retarded as hell, kinda like in G1 when you got acrobatics and for the rest of the game you were moving around lika a human-torpedo.

Also, they had almost a decade from G1 to figure out the combat system, so you can fight multiple mobs without stupid as fuck auto locking, usually on the one you don't want to attack.

That is because there is nothing worth addressing in that post. There's no interesting, if controversial takes there. Just a bunch of facts about the game which incidentally could also describe 95% of other RPGs.

Did you find Jack at the lighthouse?

Deja vu.

If you haven't played gothic for a bit install it and play a few hours of G1 and R1 back to back swapping out. Shit... I just might do that after watching a few movies of shipwrecked people on islands.

Hmmm.... maybe I'll take a discount cruise.

No I disagree, PB uses similar design mechanics like joining factions, herb hunting and an open world sandbox game where there is no hand holding but thats what fans enjoy and we dont want it to change

Risen has a very different setting and narrative to Gothic, its piracy and island exploration. And ELEX setting and game world is completely different and the entire game is a hybrid of sci-fi and fantasy

So PB doesnt make the same game over and over again but rather improves on certain working features which culminated in the success of ELEX1&2

And Im not East European and I dont have a basement

I wouldn't exactly call myself a PB-fan, but Gothic 1 has an interesting, well-realized setting and good music. And it's also pretty good at making you feel like a low level character within a fitting context and without feeling unfair. You usually know when you are in an area where you are not supposed to be yet. And some nice touches like being knocked out instead of getting killed or having a high level character escort you to the sect camp. And Diego of course. He is purely memorable because he is helpful in a time when you are still weak and clueless.

Risen 1 probably has a more enjoyable mid-game though. Whatever you say, that's partially due to the better looks and of course Kai Rosenkranz is still the one contributing the music. But it's also just a bit easier to get into and the combat system flows a bit better if I'm not completely mistaken. Exploring the eastern parts without a map (because I had forgotten that I could actually replace my incomplete one) was quite fun.

The setting isn't nearly as interesting though and the story is worse. Not least since it kind of falls on its face near the end when the Inquisitor turns stupid and the game sends you on another long and pointless McGuffin hunt.

I played maybe 10 hours of Risen 2, but eventually got too annoyed by Patty and her father.

Gothic 2 just seemed too similar to the first game and the setting (at least in the beginning) just isn't anything special. I also had some difficulty getting it to run properly. Well, at least the atmosphere in Khorinis was still lovely.

Strap Yourselves In Serpent in the Staglands Shadorwun: Hong Kong Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath I'm very into cock and ball torture I helped put crap in Monomyth

Risen actually solved this indirectly by all allowing your swings to damage every enemy it hits. But I thought auto locking happens only when you go into block mode.
