What do I need? I'm thinking of playing Keep on the Borderlands since I've ran through ToEE before. What say you? Any patches etc. I need?

Temple+ or Co8 patch. Not sure if running both causes any issues.

EDIT: Check the Temple+ thread.

Why is Animal Handling a class skill of Barbarian in KotB? Is there some reason for that in the game for a Barbarian?

Can anyone tell me about Keep on the Borderlands, do I use the 'default' starting gold by clicking the 500 GP default setting, or do I just not click that? I start with more money by not clicking it but I'm not sure what the premier way to play it is. Any ideas which is the true default setting?

All I know is that KotB is based on an old 1e or 2e module. Also, some of the custom maps are hilariously bad. Also, the writing is unironically lulzy.

I might not play it yet, might just keep playing KotC and see how I can survive in the orc fortress. I am enjoying it so we'll see. KotB seems confusing at the start, you start with a bunch of chests you can buy a ton of items from that I don't even know what they are, no tutorial or anything and just thrust into it. Not a good first look. But it's on the backburner for now probably.

It’s basically a way to get kitted up before the module starts instead of doing it later on or whatever.

KOtB is supposed to suck, but I quite liked the original module when I was like 8. I guess everything seems awesome when you are 8 though. Someone should redo the module to make it worth playing. May be a good one man project. I"d like to make a module for Tomb of Horrors.

If you want to make a specialist wizard, you'll lose almost nothing by banning Illusion and Necromancy. Also, Conjuration and Enchantment are both great schools to take Spell Focus feat for. It's also good to take some equipment crafting feats later on because the game is stingy when it comes to handing out magic stuff. Don't take monk for your first playthrough. Oh, and archery sucks until late game, so you may want to skip it for first time as well.

And does anyone know what "set default Gold (500 GP)" is? Is that what the game is supposed to by set at, or should I just roll with the higher (about 800 GP) starting gold amount? Not trying to cheat or throw off the balance or something.

Archery is a good backup for when your casters have carpetted the place with area denials and you don't want to move.
