I was skeptical because Forza Horizon Japan sounds much more appealing, but after seeing this I'm truly convinced. Those insanely detailed mountains...
The gameplay in the trailer looks neat, but I cringe whenever I hear these forced, staged player communications in a game. Why are they talking like they sit in a car, panting like they are exhausted from the drive. You are laying on a couch FFS.

They revealed the map, which is 50% bigger than the one in FH4, but more importantly, it looks more diverse and has the longest highway the series has seen so far. The area around the volcano will be great for rally cars.
It also seems they improved on the biggest downside of Forza games so far - the sounds of cars. It's still not perfect, but much better than in FH4 and others.

Ever since Forza arrived on Xbox One (Motorsport 5 and Horizon 3 iirc) the steering input has been fucked up completely: all steering modes have absolutely retarded non-linear mapping that also suddenly changes at a certain speed. It feels random in the worst way possible, even with sim steering and all assists off. Not to mention even FWD cars suffer from ridiculous oversteer. Forza has turned from best simcade into utter shit.
I'd rather play FM 4 instead.

I had something like 120 hours of fun with 4, but I bought it with every car ever and both DLC maps included, and paid ~40 for all of that.
Can't justify dropping 60 on this for just the base game, when it's literally the same game, probably 75% the same cars and handling, and just the map is new, no matter how cool the map may be.

The whole Forza franchise, i.e Motorsport as well as Horizen, has been declining ever since it arrived on Xbox One. The only thing that's being improved are graphics. Well, what's the problem you might ask? The problem is that the AI has always been shit, but took an additional nosedive once the glorious drivatars (lol!) arrived. The single player has been shit with 11 AI drivers, it's unplayable with 23 drivatars; have fun driving 2 laps and trying to get anywhere with 23 retards on the track at Hockenheim. Then there's the skinner box shit in form of mods, the endless milking with car passes, the mobile interface, the dude-bro shit in Horizon. The driver gear which is all the same... why can I not choose time of day in Freeplay? I don't want to drive early dawn or dusk (because outside of 24 hour races that's retarded), I don't want to drive in overcast condition. Then there's all the ADHS, style over substance shit on every track, helicopters, fireworks, starting and landing aircraft, confetti.... the list goes on. Meanwhile, nothing important has been improved in a decade. Still no real pit stops with crew, still the awful 180° steering wheel animation, still no qualifying to avoid the retarded AI, which is as retarded as a decade ago, as already mentioned.
Also, where's my Fujimi Kaido? The best fantasy track, replaced by what, Rio?
Forza 4 was good. But 10 years later I want some improvements, and no, monetization and skinner box gaas features are not improvements. It's going the way of FIFA.

I've always wondered about this series.. even a non-driving game fan friend of mine was converted by it. Why do people like it so much?
It's casual fun and looks great.
I don't like racing games and I love this series. It's one of the few open world games that I really enjoy and it's fun racing different vehicle classes against each other. If you can ignore the cringy storyline about collecting social media followers FH4 was excellent and got loads of post-launch support.
Also FH3 had the best DLC
Driving exotic cars among beautiful sceneries is a relatable fantasy for a lot of people, whether they're car enthusiasts or not. These games don't have many challenges or intricate mechanics, but they're pretty, energetic, competently made, and always guaranteed to provide you comfortable fun. I personally prefer Need for Speed's zero to hero progression, but FH's experience still isn't rivaled, yet.

Man! I really hope that upgraded wheel feel delivers, I really need a decent open-world car game to roam while listening to podcasts & audiobooks. I can only lap the Nurburgring so many times, I'm pretty sick of the shuto express way in AC as well. Euro Truck sucks because I wanna fckn drive cars! Please deliver!

I was thinking about getting it on Steam, but there is no crossplay with console, and it's a bit pricey. 100 euros vs 45 dollars for game pass users. Since I already have 3 years of game pass, it made more sense to buy that add-ons bundle for $45. By the time game pass expires, a new Forza game might be around.
