Guys, if you dismiss commanders be sure to sell their troops first. I had assumed the game does that automatically, but no. Not doing that makes you miss out on some pretty penny.
Perception 5< and saves usually can fix that problem.

Lads I am in urgent need of advice.

How do you manage to capture specific enemy comanders in battles? Try as I may, I cannot capture the commanders that are of importance to the plot and whose imprisonment (from what I read in the walkthrough) greately changes the storyline. I use all the cheap tricks available - have "defeated warrior hunt" for most of my heroes and "light attack", have plenty of free space in the prison, play out the battle so that I destroy each and every unit completely without losing my own. Still, no success :/

This is going to be really spoilery so for people who haven't finished the game at least once and interested in trying it (I must say - though I cannot believe that I am saying it about H-game - it's worth it) - do not read!

In this particular case I am referring to the battles with Hojo family. How do you get Nanjo Ran? I try to get her to prevent the demon from killing Hojo Soun. Unaware that it was possible to save him I let him die in my first completed playthrough. Now in my second game I would like to get Hojo or possibly enter Nanjo Ran:IF route. I know that certain events must happen before Nanjo becomes "captureable". However, after conquering almost all of Hojo territory and I think watching all the events she still won't succumb to my powahs and natural charm (smart girl ) I have been trying to get the commander for at least 3 hours but it always ends with simply "unit annihilated" message (save the times where she and her troops kick my ass).

Am I missing something? Are there any stats that can improve the success rate? Are there any extra conditions I am unaware of that may increase my chances (have been wondering if whether the battle is defensive or offensive has any meaning)? Is there any tactics that proves superb at "convincing" enemies to join you? Are there, in this specific case, any story events that must happen before game lets me capture this particular commander?

And one more thing.

@Komsonaut
Whiskey is right - although I haven't seen the actual content of the site it's odds on it will provide massive spoilers partially invalidating all the effort Whiskey Wolf and Hümmelgümpf put in this LP. This is also a word of caution for everyone, should Kosmonaut decide to supply the link. I say do it!

Perhaps you simply can't capture her yet. I think it happens sometimes, fe. I never could capture Isoroku (the archer) no matter how hard I tried during the first battle she appeared, I could do it only in the second one.

Insert clever insult here
Yeah, some commanders are impossible to capture until a certain point or they might just be impossible to capture at all, like:
infected and monster commanders

Now you guys tell me, what the fuck can I do against Ran? She one-shots all of my 500+ troops except for Himiko.

I suppose you're in your first playthrough where her unit counts over 3000 (wo)men? That was tough, yes (or perhaps my memory plays tricks on me). In the second she has around 1000 so no big deal.

Anyways, The method that works really well against her is combo ninjas + monks. Monks removing any guard that she may have from troop soldiers, then ninjas' shurikens cancel out her "preparation" status for her attack. Rinse and repeat.

I finally managed to capture her!!!

Turns out, that you can get her after the event when she vows to Hojo not to use Suzaku any more. When I reloaded to a few turns earlier just before the event and then took an action immediately after that (first action fan, first turn) the computer did some dumbfuckery: sent nanjo along with 2 archer units to defend the province. Result: slaughter. It was so stupid I suspect it was scripted (again: first action fan after the event). She is mine now with her 1000 (wo)men unit

Usually Defeated Warrior Hunt and Light Attack are enough to capture generals. If you cant capture them, check your prison: the emptier it is the easier to do. Always leave at least 5 space in prison. Also your roster of generals: if you got smaller than 5 empty space, for some reason capture become harder. Spare National Power got some effect but it's tiny.

Captured female generals also are added to your Rape Count.

I guess it doesn't count as necrophilia, if it's Rance doing it.
If this would be a question, I would say it's a valid one.

Sorry people, late update. I’m rewatching all 7 seasons of “Star Trek: Voyager” right now..

*Between the turn*

So we get back to our awesome hero.

alcg1196.jpg

Ogres, horrible creatures. I avoid… eh, wrong game.

Read: This asshole is weak.

alcg1202.jpg

Red Alert! Time to choose.

alcg1203.jpg

Sorry girl, I need to rape you because of purely political reasons.

If I would have picked the first option nothing would happen (actually the Iga ninjas would start a war with us because of some other shit, this will not happen if I start a war with someone else beforehand). So it’s either “Rape and a War” with the Houjou faction or “War” with the ninja fags…
:smug:

alcg1204.jpg

Obviously.

alcg1205.jpg

Obviously obvious.

alcg1206.jpg

alcg1207.jpg

Resistance is futile, you will be assimilated... and all your women will be raped.

alcg1208.jpg

A new highly interesting faction joins the struggle. The Houjou territory right above the “Thinking…” sign becomes Takuga territory.

alcg1209.jpg

By “disabled” they mean “cursed”.

alcg1210.jpg

alcg1211.jpg

Codexer Ahoy!

I will give you a hint to who it is – She has a dick. It’s actually a curse but some of you probably don’t mind… :smug:

Although cursed, they all have a heart in the right place.

Turn #36

alcg1215.jpg

The Demon is proceeding as expected.

alcg1216.jpg

alcg1217.jpg

alcg1218.jpg

alcg1219.jpg

So let’s start.

alcg1220.jpg

The first territory is heavily fortified.

alcg1221.jpg

But before we start the conquest some minor preparations are needed. Like releasing 5 commanders and Up-ing Rance to level 51.

alcg1222.jpg

alcg1223.jpg

Unfortunately, I hoped for an additional Fan but it looks like it's unavailable until a certain point will be crossed in the game. Still, I won’t cry. “+1 Action” for Rance is always welcome.

alcg1224.jpg

alcg1225.jpg

How suprising, in our first battle we already meet Ran.

alcg1226.jpg

Fuck two guys… oh wait, that’s not what I meant.

alcg1227.jpg

Hurry, another surprise confrontation… and no, we have to take care of it.

alcg1228.jpg

There was one more Assassin here but I used Suzume’s strong-attack to blow him away with the first strike.

alcg1229.jpg

Funny finisher pose.

alcg1230.jpg

Hmm, a Speed manual. Rance will get a good bonus in the next turn.

alcg1231.jpg

We also get closer to clearing Suzume. Some gifts speed up the process.

alcg1232.jpg

alcg1233.jpg

alcg1234.jpg

alcg1235.jpg

In the next turn.

alcg1236.jpg

Investing in the future.

Actually, some members of Takuga family are really disabled.

The crazy-looking dude for example put his own eyes out; and I'm pretty sure Mine with her missing hand is also a "naturally" disabled person (not 100% sure, never done her purple events). The game also offers an explanation for this.
And yeah, Ryo is something like a pedophile lesbian with a dick... strange combination, but this is a Japanese game after all.

If I recall correctly, it was mentioned here that if you took too long to conquer the factions that have the gourds, the monkey would steal and break these anyways. Is it a disguised demon too. or just a plain (and little) asshole?

I don't have the game yet (but I plan to do so), just to clarify. Also, MOAR!!
