The answer to your question is Insurgency! I don't know about the latest installations, but back in the times when it was just a HL mod it was one of the best MP shooters I ever played.
Maybe you should also stop driving before you cause an accident grandpa.
Yes I am very old (early 30s) but in online competitive multiplayer years, I might as well be a dinosaur.
and spends literally 8+ hours every day in a game, getting disgustingly good at it
What are some quality multiplayer competitive games, where it's less about twitch skills, or even super-fast thought processing, and more about methodical/big picture strategy?

Only dudes that have a "professional" carrer as an eSports player or streamer spend near that much time playing games.
Well, yes. There's definitely something to be said for using your time spent gaming wisely and considering what you're doing, but the fact still remains that there will always be - on average - a gulf of difference between someone who spends 8+ hours a day on a game and someone who can only play for one or two hours at most. Outlier cases exist, but they're the exceptions that prove the rule. It's not only time spent.
It's also how you spend it. If you play 12 hours a day like a zombie without thinking much about what you're doing, you'll never get better. You'd be surprised how many people you can beat with an hour or two of focused play. In arena shooters like UT and Quake for example, great map control and item timing alone can win you a good number of games against people with better aiming. Reflexes and muscle memory do matter though.
You could try something like League of Legends. Mechanics help if you want to play the more complicated champions, but you can win games through playing simple champs and understanding macro.
thats what the average NEET does

As I said, I played only the first Insurgency, when it was a HL standalone mod. No crosshair, little spread, slow movement speed, low HP. Staying in the open was an instant death, so you had to use cover and advance forward working as a group. Or maybe I played at right servers?insurgency is a twitch shooter through and through, just with the veneer of realism. INS devs have made no secrets from day one they were and are trying to get in on the e-sports market, and slow paced games just no bueno.

Isn't Ins Sandstorm as dead as a doornail these days though?
Bitch please :DYes I am very old (early 30s) but in online competitive multiplayer years, I might as well be a dinosaur.
So, decline all the way. Sad. Really enjoyed the first one, but the servers were scarce even before the first official game came out, thus I recon they should be completely non-existent today.I mean, just go look at PVP insurgency sandstorm gameplay on youtube to see what its like today. It plays pretty identically to something like call of duty.
Just play Go or Chess instead. Video games suck for competitive multiplayer.
Online Chess (and probably even Go nowadays) you play against engines in most cases.

Chess.com and Lichess have pretty good anti cheat engines that analyze your moves and ban you pretty consistently if you use engines.
